Seriously, had Disney & Kennedy just referred to Lucas notes, we could've had our dream sequel trilogy.

The actual sequel trilogy is outlined by George in an interview he had in the Star Wars Archives book. It would've featured Luke rebuilding the Jedi order, Leia as the chosen one leading a New Republic, Darth Maul leading his criminal empire (as seen in the clone wars which connects the series to the real sequels) as the new villain and his apprentice Darth Talon. Instead we got the misadventures of the misandrist KK and her identity thief, Mary Sue Palpatine. Sad times for fans.
@Iwillone4 ай бұрын
Leia being a Skywalker was already unnecessary but to be the chosen one is laughable. A Mary Sue move by today's criticisms whose own identity as an independent character was stripped.

The fact you wore your "DISCO" shirt whilst doing a Star Wars video, epic!

The reception of the prequel trilogy (mostly The Phantom Menace) was the reason why The Force Awakens went the "play it safe A New Hope 2.0 route." While it would of been nice to see some more unique world building and an expanded universe over recycled nostalgia, I could see why Disney wanted to avoid a polarizing debut and went with what audiences were the most comfortable with.

The thing is, many nowadays are questioning just how much hate the Prequels got and how much of it was overblown by the Media. Like, yeah they weren't good, but they weren't the worst either...

Honestly, an ex machina type film set in the world of star wars sounds like it could be really cool. Not as a part of the main saga, but I think it would make a good standalone movie

Why not bring Darth Plagueis as the actual puppet master first, not Sheev Palpatine via Ressurection!

Tightening up the original was probably a good idea. The ultimate wrong was selling to Disney who has no story at all. George's version would of been better for sure but who knows where he would of went with it. I bet now George wishes he did take on the project as the whole franchise is starting to smell really bad.

I still remember walking out of the theater and hearing everyone praising Episode 7 and thinking to myself, "Did we just watch the same movie? That sucked!"
@sharkbait80904 ай бұрын
Went to the theatre opening day for Ep7 and remember thinking, it was just a new hope remake. I didn't bother watching Ep8 in theatre due to how underwhelmed I was with Ep7 and was only able to watch about 45minutes of it ... and I refuse to watch Ep9.

Episode 8 was the exact opposite from 7 for me. I actually kinda liked 8, but everyone else was rancidly hating it. I guess I can just never win. No matter my opinion, everyone else just thinks the opposite.

They could have made something from anywhere between the New Jedi Order and the Fate of the Jedi series, or even after, and it would have been incredible, but they thought it would be a better idea just to cherry pick the EU at random while throwing the rest in the trash. We see how that worked out.

Lucas, to me wasn't the best director. Not the best editor. He was far from the best script writer (seriously, his dialogue sucks). What he does really well is build worlds. This guy has a backstory for even the single scene background characters. And most of it is pretty consistent.

Star Wars A New Hope was a fluke. George Lucas's vision was limited by time, money and studio demands. This resulted in the movie capturing a realistic feel due to the fact that it wasn't shiny, polished and futuristic. The film was released during a lingering recession and the United States felt like it was a nation in decline. A good basic easy to follow hero arch with characters so likable that the villains are just as beloved as the heroes. Throw in the Iconic John Williams score and top it off with ground breaking special effects and Lucas unwittingly released a worldwide cultural phenomenon. Follow it up with the greatest sequel of all time and then wrap it up in a manner that didn't take away from the story and you have a solid trilogy. Lucas was a visionary. Unfortunately Lucas had total control over the prequels and the character dialogues. From a certain point of view, that was his vision but it didn't resonate as deeply as the original trilogy..........Disney on the other hand created movies on their corporate model and literally recycled the original story. Lucas told stories which netted him a fortune in profits, Disney appears to put profits over the story...creating boring, predictable and cringy products for profit.........I doubt this franchise can be saved without a retcon.
