Күн бұрын

I built a new pair of saw horses from 2 x 4's. They are nice, strong and stackable. I like that they don't need any bottom braces. I made the legs 30" long and the over length is 48" long. However, you can easily change these measurements for you needs.

It is May 2024 and I am watching this video to make sae horses wit my son. Thanks for this video. Do you prime them after or do you use pressure treated wood?
@BearCreekWoodworking

I don't do either. I use plain construction lumber since I store my saw horses inside.

It takes 5 pieces of 2x4's to make two saw horses. Each 2x4 yields 3 pieces. 10 pieces at 30 inches and 4 pieces at 32 inches. You're welcome.

Why not do 32" same amount of lumber?
@Traqr
@Traqr Жыл бұрын
In my area, 92-1/4" studs are usually the better lumber: 2x30" legs + 1x32” flange = 92" plus two saw kerfs. Basically, cut 2x30” from each stud and you'll be left with the flanges. You end up with one extra flange for two horses from five studs, assuming you want the 1" clamping lip on each end. For more permanent horses I'll pocket-screw a brace flush to the legs at 12” like a sawhorse ladder to prevent racking if I'm planing lengthwise on the top. The extra flange plus one extra stud gives me the four "step" braces I need, and they still stack exactly the same way. If you glue them you also have a low platform support and a place to step on if they're moving around while you're chiseling or planing.

Good video. Why did you make the top and bottom pieces of the I-Beam longer than the center piece? Thanks.

They are longer so I can easily clamp the work to the sawhorses if need.

With the longer overhangs it can be useful when trying to clamp boards on top ends of the saw horses.

@@BearCreekWoodworking Your horses ‘look’ perfectly fine. Form follows function though. It’s also not a good idea to have nails or screws in the top because you run the risk of hitting the fasteners with your saw blade, while making a cut.
@FoScoJo
@FoScoJo 5 ай бұрын
@@BearCreekWoodworking The top piece is sacrificial so you don't have to take the whole thing apart to replace it. Just attach it with only one deeply counter sunk screw at each end and remember to cut make cuts at the end of the sawhorse or set cut depth appropriately.
