Yes... he is still my favorite as well, and I am not even a fan of Batman as a whole. The level of depth and intensity Keaton & Burton bought to the table made him so much more interesting than my general feeling about the character.

I always loved how Keaton's Bruce Wayne had a darkness or mysteriousness about him and how Batman was just a manifestation of that dark personality. He seemed like a pretty chill normal guy on the surface but just the way he carried himself, the nuances and all, gave you the impression he had a dark side. It was a brilliant portrayal by Keaton that nobody's been able to match since. His Batman/Bruce Wayne set the standard for all those to follow, all the way up to Batfleck.

It also was more then “theatrical”. It was also bulletproof and resistant to knives. He was a reasonable fighter in the first film and got better in the second. Part of the reason he wasn’t as good in the first film is because he relied on surprise and intimidation in fights. Most petty criminals never put up much of a fight. He also lured them into a false sense of beating him as he would get knocked down and lay there until an opportunity arose to surprise attack them when their guard was down. He proved to be a formidable fighter when he easily blocked the swordsman’s strikes (which also showed more amour that the suit allowed him) and dropped him with one kick when the shot opened itself to him. He was not physical fighter, but a Psychological one.

He's referring to the film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), which Michael Keaton starred in as a so-called washed up man who is remembered for doing a major Superhero film franchise, and Keaton plays that role to perfection as reality and fantasy were blurred for him. Reason is because of people like us who love his portrayal as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and like his character in said film, he can't escape it in real life. As for what Alec said: Keaton is, at least IMO, the best of the Batman actors. Bale was a perfect Wayne, but a bit meh as Batman (due to the voice, allegedly altered in post production). While Affleck impressed me as Batman in Batman V Superman, I need to be more convinced regarding his Bruce Wayne. So far, Keaton has done the best portrayal of the character. Great example, the "You wanna get nuts! C'mon, let's get nuts!" line and scene. Hopefully, he gives the Vulture a great amount of praise. Keaton is, and always has been, a great actor.

@@MachineFuckingHate You're right but Bruce wasn't following his own game. He was being manipulated by Lex too. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I still fail to see what is supposed to be this amazing about Bale's Batman that so many people claim he was the best one. I always assumed people just say that because the Dark Night Trilogy were some of the best Batman movies and just named Bale as favourite Caped Crusader because he happened to play the role in those movies. Overall I always thought the main selling point for me of the Nolan movies were the villains. Ledger's Joker has become the stuff of movie villain legends, Hardy's Bane was awesome and Neeson is always great. But Bale never really impressed me in those movies. I always thought his Batman was very de-mystified due to him being all badass and almost no theatricality, even though we spend a whole movie learning about how he was taught to use theatricality as a weapon by Rhas Al-Gul. And the Batman-voice was cringeworthy. He sounded like Rohrschach after a particularly nasty cold. And his Bruce Wayne was...too normal. I know a lot of that has to do with the writing, but I just can't accept a Bruce Wayne that wants to hang up the cowl barely halfway through the first movie because he wants to bang his childhood friend. I grew up with both Keanton's and Conroy's Bruce Wayne, who both would fall in love constantly, but the prospect of giving up the mission in favour of a normal life always presented a huge crisis in their life. Bale on the other hand? "Meh, avenging my parents by fighting crime in a bat-suit sounded like fun at first, but this chick is really hot and she doesn't like me smelling of old rubber, so I guess I'll just find the first best district attorney/rookie cop who might be halfway able to fight crime and push the job on them."
@BoUrnNe267 жыл бұрын
Wurzelknecht You make a valid point however, remember in Mask of the Phantasm, Conroy's Batman actually was ready to give up the idea (after having a short internal crisis) of putting on the mask to marry Andrea Beaumont. Unfortunately for him, fate decided differently or rather, the idiocy of her father decided differently.
@Wurzelknecht7 жыл бұрын
But there is the difference I mean: He suffered an emotional breakdown over the idea of giving up the mask for Andrea, because he thought he would let his dead parents down. Because he promised to fight crime in Gotham so that no kid had to go through what he went through. He broke down on his parents' gravestone weeping because he felt guilty for even thinking of living a happy normal life without being Batman. Bale on the other hand was just like "hey Rachel, if you go out with me I swear I will stop this silly Batman-stuff." If there was any inner conflict, he really didn't show it well. And in the end he even fakes his own death in order to get away from the job, and be with a woman he barely had any chemistry with and push the Batman-duties on a guy who wasn't even qualified in the slightest, because he was "just" a normal cop, without special League of Shadows-training or anything. The first night of crimefighting as Batman for Nolan's version of Robin will probably end up looking like the first fight of Kickass.

In addition to Conroy, I'd give the award for the best Batman to a combination of him and the creative staff in the Animated DC Universe. Together, they created the best Batman ever. One defining moment: At the end of the "Justice League Unlimited" episode "Kid's Stuff" (where the League members had been turned into children) Diana makes comment about it being great to be a child, and Batman says that he hadn't been a child since the murder of his parents.

We know, but Bale lost his voice three times on the set of Batman Begins, so they had to digitally alter his voice for the growl in the sequels. Micheal Keaton was awesome. And in the comics, Batman usually loses the first time encountering a "new" villain and then defeats them on the second encounter.

I always enjoyed the fact that Bruce Wayne's family background was something that he tried to keep hidden from the world. It's not like everyone knew who he was and what happened to his parents. I also love the "you wanna get nuts, Jack" scene.

One thing I like about the Batman movie was in the beginning he's almost like an urban legend, something that comes out of nowhere to get the bad guys, and his first scenes do just that with the two muggers who cross him.

Bale doesn’t come close to Keaton’s performance. Keaton the original Dark Batman couldn’t of played it better 💯🔥

Mi Top 3: 1- Michael Keaton (Awesome portrait of the cape crusader/ Bruce wayne) 2-Ben Affleck (The only good thing about BvS with Jeremy Irons) 3-Kevin Conroy (Great performance with a voice)

The best Batman was, is and will always be Kevin Conroy from the animated series. But Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Christian Bale were also pretty good.

Another thing is that the noises of the leather grinding against itself when he clenches his fist was made by Keaton entirely. He was able to create that intense, dramatic noise without the aid of audio effects

I've always liked Keaton's portrayal of Batman the best. He came across as stoic and menacing and his eyes hinting at a little bit of crazy lying just below the surface.
@Brenelael6 жыл бұрын
Michael Keaton's Batman had wide reaching effects that went way beyond the superhero genre as well. He was really the first 'regular guy' action movie hero. Always before action movie stars had to be tough like Stallone, built like Arnold or fight like Norris. After the first Batman movie there was a fundamental shift across the entire action movie genre and a lot more 'regular guy' action movie stars were born as a result. He really did change a lot by playing Batman.

I always get argued with when I say Keaton was the best live action Batman but I stick to my guns because his performance speaks for itself. If I had to say he could've done something better it would've been his fight training. If he had the training that Bale or Affleck had he would be untouchable as the best Batman of all time.
@DJRavek7 жыл бұрын
He's still untouchable
@jakebman90713 жыл бұрын
I don't think the fight training was the problem. They needed to choreograph the fights around the 1989 limitations of the batsuit (heavy, rigid). Which I love :)
@kevinwegener48937 жыл бұрын
Another awesome thing is that to prepare for the role, Michael Keaton took kickboxing classes which also influences his fighting style.

He is bar far the best actor to play the part. However, Bale's Batman is still the most faithful.
@MachineFuckingHate6 жыл бұрын
"faithful to what?" I'm assuming he's referring to the comics. "certainly not the comics." Oh, most certainly the comics. "Batman in the comics has a traditional superhero costume," Batman in the comics has dozens of variations of his suit. There is no traditional costume. They change every decade. "Bale's "Bat-suit" looked like cop/super-soldier tactical armor," Um... You do know that his costume was directly inspired by Keaton's costume? So, basically, you're taking a slam at his suit, too. And Batman had tactical black costume in the comics as well. 3.bp.blogspot.com/_FVXCQBs2iUU/TI7xriv4ozI/AAAAAAAAEgc/QsiZs4X1vL8/s1600/batman.jpg "and he talked like the cookie monster." Batman is a comic book character. Therefore, his voice is up to the imagination of the reader. So there can't be an argument made against Bale's voice based on that, because Batman's voice can be interpreted whatever you like.

Well, Christian Bale had the adventive of being an actual character in his movies and having an arc. Michael Keaton was just...a guy...sitting in his batcave, doing some stuff.
@neilprice5137 жыл бұрын
Best Batman performance fullstop is still Kevin Conroy, who has done his voice for over 25 years now, Then the best live action performance is Michael Keaton who so far IS the live action embodyment of Batman as his performance in his two outings is just too good. Christian Bale was a decent Bruce Wayne but not a good Batman as his out of breath growl ruined it. Ben Affleck was decent in both Batman and Bruce Wayne but the scripts he was given to enact were just too terrible for the characters to do his performance justice. Adam West, though beloved for it's campiness, was a product of the 1960's and should be left there. Val Kilmer and George Clooney were either forgetable or uninterested when they played Batman/Bruce Wayne. There have been others who have lent their voices to the Dark Knight as they have tried to replace Kevin Conroy for well over a decade, as he wants to retire from the role as does Mark Hamill as the Joker, they have not found a good enough replacement yet. However the closest someone has gotten has been the actor Bruce Greenwood in the short run cartoon series "Young Justice".
