If you want to see a LOT of roundabouts, you ought to go to Great Britain. They've had them for decades there. The first time I went there from mainland Europe, I didn't know what I saw. Geeee, hardly you were in highest gear or you had to slow down (they are great for "U"-turns though, when you lost the way and need to go back). They do keep traffic flowing better instead of an intersection with lights but in a big truck they may be cumbersome.

Valcourt is Bombardier Recreational Vehicles headquarters (SkiDoos, Can-Am, Spider, etc…) Maybe you are picking up some toys!! By the way, $75 doesn’t seem that expensive to cross the Confederation Bridge both ways with a semi. They are obviously facilitating the transportation industry 👍🏼👍🏼 It cost us $65 to cross with out truck and travel trailer this summer…

Went through my very first roundabout about 45 years ago in the maritimes. Never saw one before in my life. I think out east got them before anywhere else in Canada. Came in too fast and almost lost the 45 ft flat bed with the entire load. Was early enough in the morning that I was able to use all lanes to save the load. One mistake I haven't made since.

CAD $ 75 is not fun but I believe it's the price what used to be charged to the ferry before the bridge was there? Anyway... If you live in the East and run USA there are af couple of tolls to be paid in bridges that are borders (Peace bridge, Ambassador bridge CA$ 54 and $ 70) or crossing George Washington bridge northbound US$$$$$ 100.

Ran weekly across to PEI( reefer trailer hauling meat) from Moncton when it opened up and before high sided restrictions, went across in a snow/wind storm and wind was blowing so hard it lifted my bonnet and I could see the engine fan and it stopped my air wipers from turning. The next Day on the island there were three trucks laying on their side around Kensington (between Summerside and charlottetown) from a wind gust the night before.

The Confederation Bridge is the worlds longest bridge over ICE covered water at 8 miles. The actual worlds longest is Lake Pontchatrain (sp) in Louisiana at roughly 24 miles. There are several causeways over 15 miles long in the US. The one over the lake opened in 1956 and it had a second bridge opening only a few years later. The Gulf coast area has a bunch of long bridges over the swamps. Just FYI.
@MichaelW969

Not any longer, there are 6 longer bridges in China and one in Thialand longer than Lake Pontchartrain.

I gotta see a documentary on how they build those super bridges. It's mind boggling any general contractor does this work out in the ocean (Gulf/ inlets)?
@scottwheeler2494
@scottwheeler2494 8 ай бұрын
It's a matter of definition in part. The Chinese bridge is a combination of bridges and tunnels to get to its total distance. Regardless at least one of those bridges is the longest today. I forgot the North American caveat to my earlier statement. The Chinese Bridge is a stunning build. They leveled islands to build it. The one that connects the Hong Kong Airport is another. The Chinese have built many amazing projects over the past 30 years - dams, bridges and airports are but a few.
