Need for Speed Carbon (2006) and Need for Speed Most Wanted (2004) are a pair that still hold out, and they still work on PC, which is where I now run them.

I love Forza Motorsport 4. What you say about the progression is exactly how I feel. It's honestly so good that I've started emulating and modding it with Xenia. As for other games that hold up, there are tons more in the NFS franchise if you go further back than the games in this video. -The PS2 version of NFS Hot Pursuit 2 still has some of the most satisfying arcade driving physics I've experienced in a game. -NFS High Stakes is very old, but it's surprisingly still fun to this day. It was the last "old" NFS game and had a nice career mode. -TDU2 may be a little bit awkward in terms of physics, but no game to this day gives you the same feeling of walking into a dealership and buying a car to take into your mansion. I hope TDUSC gives the same feeling.

Another game would be Gran turismo 5. Holds up very well in todays world I think.
