Watching this after the news of their arrests broke. It's chilling. Phrases like "Love is boundaries." really hit even harder with hindsight. I hope these people stay locked up and are no longer able to harm anyone.

Exactly! Reminds me of kids getting abused in their home learning to lie well to avoid the abuse. Yes they are lying, but they are so very justified because they lie to protect themselves from the adults that aren’t doing their job! Same goes for any abusive church setting.
@lunartears6761
@lunartears6761 Жыл бұрын
And be honest, we’ve all lied at least once or twice to avoid certain reactions from an adult, even in ACTUAL loving families. All kids do that to an extent. And I mean a ‘once or twice’ as in one or 2 times, not as a habit.

Jodi's story about her daughter's bday is such a classic abuser move. Abusers love to ruin birthdays and holidays IME. Also that weird pause Jodi did when ruby briefly said "IPad" chilled me to the bone. My abuser dad did that all time. It's like a weird, performative flash of rage to put the other person, who is just speaking normally, in their place. "I control the conversation. You don't make a sound when I speak or even interject, when I don't want you to. We were having normal discourse but I've decided it's now time to assert my control over you and this conversation."

I am so genuinely confused by that story because this video was filmed within the last couple years, and Jodi implied the birthday was recent. According to the interview with Jodi’s niece, her daughter hasn’t talked to her in YEARS, like before Jodi and Ruby were even connected… soooooooo the whole thing sounds like a straight up lie

The way Ruby looks at Jodi reminds me of the way my stepmother used to look at my late father while he was pontificating about ... well, anything, whether he had expertise in it or not. (He did know a lot about many things, but he never limited his shows of expertise to topics he actually knew about.) The way Jodi looks at Ruby reminds me of the way my father used to look at my mother before he cheated on her with my stepmother and my mother asked for a divorce.

I can completely understand why Ruby's kids would be bored. During their summer break for 2 months Ruby took away everything they didn't have access to the internet they didn't have access to their phones they didn't have access to their computer they didn't have access to see their friends, and was also kept away from their aunts uncles and cousins. and that it's a very valid reason to be bored.

Isolating them so severely looks like narcissistic abuse to me... I used to follow 8 Passengers for a long time but things started to get strange... Be careful how you treat your children because they choose your nursing home LOL (I work in one.. I know... ) Also, narcissist apology style - "I'm sorry that you feel that way" rather than "I'm sorry for what I did" type comments... Heather xo

Plus, those poor children have confided many times, even while on camera or live, that they have no friends. I’ll add, in a very heartbreaking way. It almost brought me to tears. An entire summer basically being disciplined, shut in your house with strict, round the clock rules.

IMO people with fewer children have seemed like better parents. They have more time, energy, patience, and resources to give to each child they have and also value them as the individual people they each are. My sister has 5 children, all 2 yrs or less apart, she's been stretched beyond her mental, emotional, and financial means, and it reflects in how she treats my nieces, specifically her firstborn, gets the brunt of it. It's very sad.

Watching this after everything has come out is mind blowing. I'm glad I watched you guys on Mormon Stories and the recent videos because there are a lot of sensationalized details and misinformation. It rubs me the wrong way because what these kids went through is horrific enough without embellishing it. I hope the kids are safe and learn what real love and real privacy is. I hope that the system isn't as neglectful as it was to the Turpin kids and they can have time to learn how good the real world is.

I have this overwhelming sadness for their kids. These women refuse to give their children unconditional love but also say they will cut their kids off if the kids don’t show *them* unconditional love. It’s truly shocking. They way they talk is triggering for me because I faced the same “tough love” growing up and all it’s meant is pain and therapy. I’ve parented my children in the opposite way and I don’t really see my family of origin much. I feel for their kids because they have a years of pain ahead while these women still have the power over them. And Ruby, Jodi, on the off-chance you see this somewhere… people don’t bring up how they’ll treat you when your old bc that should be your motivation. It’s just a warning that you will reap what you’ve sown. Sow cruelty and you’ll die alone and rejected.

My father was an abusive narcissist, and this is 100% a narcissist’s guide to “love.” And yes, it is VERY triggering to those of us who have been on the receiving end of that “love” (so sorry you’ve been through it too). Every single video I see of them, my heart breaks more and more for those poor kids. I know the difficulties of growing up with a narcissist parent, though I fortunately had my mother who was incredible. These kids not only don’t have that, but they have TWO cultist lunatic narcissists living under the same roof with them 24/7, secluded and cut off from the outside world and cut off from those who genuinely love them. So sad and terrifying all at the same time.

She didn't stop it because she thought it would be better for her children, she stopped it because people were calling her out for neglect, they were questioning her marriage status, they were calling CPS on her, and they were witnessing the depression on her kids faces when she took Christmas away from two of the six kids and they had to watch their siblings celebrate Christmas. If we want to add to it, her husband is no longer teaching at the college which is leading people to question if the college told him enough was enough after he sent out weird messages to students (at which point he moved out) AND her oldest daughter's money was taken out of her bank account (tens of thousands of dollars) and after the investigation the bank closed the investigation because it was taken out by someone else on the account. Guess who was on that account......Ruby. She stopped it to hide things that were going on in their household from viewers better.....not because it was better for the children.

Whoa, Ruby's little fantasy monologue about Chad's "Into the Wild" experience unlocked a very specific memory I have of nearly falling off a snowy cliff in Montana while climbing a mountain at similar (secular, thankfully!) "wilderness program" in 2004. Surreal stuff. If anyone's curious about what goes on in these joints, consider this comment my AMA, lol.

These two sound exactly like my parents when I was a child, until well after I moved out in my twenties. I used to have to write letters to apologise to my father for something like not sharing my sweets with him and I totally got kicked out of home when I was sixteen. This completely conditional, quid pro quo version of 'love' was completely normal in my whole family. As adults, we either don't speak to them at all, or in my case, my parents retired to island living, they're a four-hour flight away and I speak to them twice a year. And I'm completely unashamed to admit that now, when they offer to pay for something or give us money, I take full advantage and refuse to feel bad or like I owe them anything.

The whole discussion about the ‘transactions’ and “if you don’t, I’ll…” just tells me someone set some high quality boundaries with them and they hated it. I would bet big money one of the kids said “I love you, and I want to keeping seeing you but when you xyz it hurts me. If you keep doing xyz I won’t come around anymore or you won’t be welcome here anymore” Good for them 😅

re: the comments about the 'Honey-Do' list - an interesting thing I read on reddit recently is that the chores the woman owns certain chores that happen every day, or at least multiple times a week. Cooking, laundry, cleaning, dishes. When a man goes "I DO help around the house, AND Im the one with a job" means yes, they go to their job for 8 hours a day, but their "chores" at home are monthly/annual chores. Mow the lawn, change the oil on the cars, clean the gutters. That's not a CHORE so much as a task. (Disclaimer: This is very heteronormative, but the status quo currently strongly influences our cultural norms)

Watching these two in hindsight is kinda chilling ngl. There's so much disdain like.... RADIATING off Jodi, and so much rage simmering behind Ruby's Bland Wholesome Lady facade. Like why does Jodi feel so much contempt for the world? Why is Ruby so fucking angry at everyone? What do they think they deserve that they've never received? And why, WHY would they ever want to take it out on literal CHILDREN?? There's something in ~distortion~ all right, and it's the warped perception these two have of EVERYTHING. Screw em both! Some ppl don't deserve to be parents 😒

I love how they been color Coronating there clothes. It is like those couples who where matching clothes all the time. Lol. I know it's petty, but they just give off that we are more then friends vibe. Then it again it could be Ruby worship Judie & just follows her commands, down to what to wear. I can see that too.

As someone who has studied psychology and the behavioral sciences for many years at university, they are wrong about like everything with their made-up "philosophy" or "coaching method" or whatever to call it! Love is an action; that's true, but it's also a feeling. I'm not sure what they're trying to say here? It sounds so weird, like they trying to invent new methods and philosophies that are not based on reality and what science already knows. And the funny thing is, that I'm studying theology now too and I am religious (but very progressive!) and even from that standpoint, this sounds ridiculous...

The thing that’s not mentioned that was really sticking out to me is they position themselves to be the ones who define what truth and love is so they can manipulate their families and people in their circle by claiming authority. Who are they to say their kids “aren’t acting in truth” they never clearly define what it is but say they know it. Absolutely insane.
