My last girlfriend called me “baby” which was fine with me, while my nickname for her was “Puppers”…don’t know why I came up with that, but she loved it. Sometimes if a woman overheard me call her that their reaction would like, “he calls you Puppers? I love that!”….😂 Then I dated a girl who only wanted me to call her by her real name because she thought I was disrespecting her if I called her anything else….but then she took everything so seriously. I think pet names are great as intimate terms of endearment. This was a fun and light episode while still making you think…😊

Take it to the next level. I moved from the horrible city environs of the Northeast to laid back Western North Carolina. I was astounded by the waitresses who recognized that pet names mean big tips. I've been called Hon, Punkin', Sugar, etc. that kind of familiarity garners big tips compared to, "what can I get you Sir?"

I never could call my late husband "Babe" or "Baby." It seemed emasculating. He was taller and stronger than me and protective, and I celebrated that. We enjoyed some sexual role-playing, and as I'm a partial submissive I enjoyed how he responded to hearing "My Lord," or "Monseigneur," which is "My Lord" in French and which flows more, sound-wise. These were all private terms for us. In public if I wanted to express affection I used his name with a "y" or "ie" ending, as in "Mikey," "Joey," etc, which he also used for me. If we wanted to get more rambunctious I called him a "beast" or "handsome animal." He seemed to enjoy that too. Otherwise, "Honey, "Handsome," or "Big Guy." I think it made a difference to both of us to state early on how we wanted to call each other. It increased intimacy and trust for us.

"King?" "Hero?" Weird. My sweetie calls me "sweetie," which is how I refer to her to other people, such as when I write about her here. She occasionally calls me "sir," when she's trying to make a point or if she wants my opinion about something. Previous generations used "darling" frequently. You see it in old movies. My dad's letters to his wife in England while he was a POW in Germany all open with "Darling."

Interesting topic. Honey and sugar used to be comments related to you are sweet. You attract my taste buds. Something I didn't understand. There are some who just say it out of habit as a way of relating as opposed to someone truly feeling attracted in the moment or more meaningful relationship. Ones I've had and liked were hairy bear and cuddle bear and Armstrong heater meanìng she felt warm and safe with me. Would lead to snuggling and cuddling. This one could be a great one Peter Pan as playful in bed, but can be used negativelyas never grow s up and doesn't take responsibility. So often these are situational to the relationship on has.

I think there are everyday nick names [used as a name replacement and casual terms of endearment] and then there are the special ones - private and for special occasions that enhance the relationship dynamics by creating closeness, or bringing up special remembrances. King is something I hear in the black community a lot and so is queen, as the feminine equivalent. Honey, hon, sweetie are southern normal for casual interaction with strangers, and it's okay to a certain point - mostly in the hospitality industry or in stores. I can't stand it if a much younger woman calls me that though - add a little bit of vocal fry and it makes me want to pop her one, as it comes across as rude and condescending. I am not YOUR honey, and it always eggs my inner "not honey" on to show her that. Silke - this is the perfect time to throw out that poll - I went looking for it and it's not there. I bet you'd get top engagement for it [think algorithm!] as most ppl would head over to the community page to look for it!!! Go do it, girl! Me personally - I'm probably a hon/honey girl when it comes to my currently still hypothetical man, but I'd also be a short form for his first name gal, if he has a long one or just using his name, when I want his attention. I could get used to snookums again - haven't used that one in a long time. I've had a number of nicknames over the years - and some very original, but the one name I would not want to be called these days is baby, babe, bae. At our age this is just a long line of babes and I'm not going to be one of them.

I've noticed that us men care much more about the intent of whatever word is used (said in a loving way) where women can really get hung up on a given word (honey, for example) even if it's delivered with loving intent. It is very off putting when you call your GF/Wife a loving pet name and her only response is "Don't call me that!!!" Sheesh, sorry I showed you some love. haha
@ssiegreen52922 ай бұрын
As a woman, I get that "don't call me that" part - especially when it is a much used/abused nickname such as the lazy "babe", which at our age range, means you've been one out of many babes in his life time (exception - you've been married for just about forever, and you've always called her that]. Put a little effort into it and make it a special name instead - one that she knows is just for her - and she will love it. Depending on the specific woman and her experiences, she may not tell you that - but she will.

Schatz, honey, sweetheart?!? Generical terms which can be used to your husband or lover-on-the side and personally I uphoard those as a term for partner because one term missfits all (and you do not have to remember 'their' names but to each their own. As a party-trick you can introduce your wife as 'and this is my former girlfriend'. But (similar to the Southeast Asian languages) you pronounce a term has meaning. Ro(w)bert!? could indicate (if pronounced with a wink) positive action. Using the middle name Robert-Maxwell! has a twist which may mean, if used in a stern way, that an item has been left 'unattended' to. But yes, 'Mann' (you-da-man) and 'Frau' or 'Weip' (with a soft p and not the properly spelled B) can and have been endearing terms but just for one specific one. Find one for the real deal and stick to it is my suggestion because he and she are worth it. Place emphasise on the pronounciation (if you are a dog owner because their hearing it a lot better than ours', they pay more at-tension to 'HOW' you pronounce it and even husbands can be taught). If you go for 'King' make her your 'Queen' is a needed require-meant. If he has potential then 'My Prince' and her 'Principessa' and she might be tickled. ... and King can be an upgrade 👑
