I think that everybody buys luxury brands for the hype to at least a small degree. After all, if we only wanted the particular style of the bag, there are countless cheaper alternatives we could get. We are all slaves to marketing and the prestige of designer labels. That said, I loved this video! It was a very unique and welcomed departure from most glowing reviews. I wholeheartedly agree with your points, especially about the Hermes Birkin, I love it on other people but it is not my personal style at all, yet even still I almost talked myself into getting one! I will only add three things to consider when deciding whether a Chanel is for you, or which Chanel is for you: 1) Do you have a car? I live in Los Angeles, where a car is a necessity. Because of that, I don't have to carry my life in my bag (like I did when I lived in New York) so I get a lot more use out of my Chanel medium classic flap. 2) What is your physical stature? I am short and small so the jumbo is much too big for me but the medium classic flap I can wear every which way. 3) What do people around you wear? In LA, I've seen Chanel bags at the gym, the grocery store, wherever. Seeing them worn so casually affects how I wear mine. Anyway, just my two cents, hope it helps!

To me these price increases are showing Chanel’s incredible arrogance and that really turns me off the entire brand as a whole. I know it’s logical profit maximising, but given that they’re so huge and so frequent it reeks of price gouging which I detest. I used to like the brand but I was never in love the way others are, these past few years have only sealed that it’s a hard pass from me now to any Chanel.

I appreciate you doing this video because i was starting to feel a little weird for not living Chanel!!!! I have been collecting handbags for quite some time and I just sold my one and only Chanel bag. I know I should love them because everyone seems to. I mean they are gorgeous! But the chain would constantly fall off my shoulders and and getting in and out of a flap bag was just annoying. And the prices are OUTRAGEOUS for the jumbo which is the size I prefer. I couldn’t fit anything into a small flap! I had to face the cold hard truth that I just don’t love the bags! I much prefer LV and Gucci and Fendi with more reasonable prices for my lifestyle and i can’t help it, i love logos with top zips and top handles! I’m a basic speedy girl I guess!

I agree -- my number one thing I would tell someone considering buying a flap bag - it is ANNOYING AF to close that bag when you are in a hurry. Number two - that chain constantly slips off your shoulder. However, I also have a Chanel WOC, and I love that one so much more than my flap bag, and it was about 2/3 the price. Go figure.

I own a few Chanel bags and find Chanel bags are very well made, superb , buttery leather which I really love, about the weight it will depending on which style bag you use for. Evening gathering I normally use a smaller and light weight Chanel elegant flap bag to pair with my outfit, daytime outing normally I use a Chanel tote bag for general functions. Chanel bags are pricy bags so as all other name-brand bag also came with a high price tag. I think a few key elements we should take into consideration when buying a Chanel or any other name brand bags:: PRICE; QUALITY; STYLE & FUNCTIONALITY I like many of Chanel bags due to its elegance & subtly, most of all, they function well & suite my style perfectly.

Great video.. Just a tip the jumbo chain if it falls too long clip it inside to shorten it, either with a chain clip or a Chanel ribbon tied between the links. For reference I'm 5"6 and love cross-bodying mine to the length that works for me by this method.

I have a Jumbo Classic Flap in black caviar leather. I bought it in the Rue Carbon store as a very special 50th birthday treat some years ago. I absolutely love the look and feel of it. It just exudes luxury and I often find myself just looking at it and touching it 🤣🤣 BUT, it is ridiculously heavy and if you do fill it to it’s full capacity, it becomes almost impossible to wear due to the weight. It is also very awkward to use with the double flap and not an easily organised bag. I find myself thinking carefully about where I wear it (I don’t want a Carrie Bradshaw moment ) which is particularly awkward given that the time I most want to wear it is when I’m visiting London, or another big city, which is the time that I also feel most vulnerable. I wouldn’t dream of wearing it outside unless it was cross body, which as you say is extremely awkward and not that visually appealing. SO, I’m really glad that I have my Chanel Jumbo Flap bag, but it’s definitely more of a ‘treasure’ to enjoy at home, and not a practical bag at all. I wouldn’t buy one again and at times when I could do with an injection of cash, I do find myself thinking of selling it, but I can never quite bring myself to say goodbye to it. Ultimately, it symbolises a point in my life when I had achieved my career goals and could afford to treat myself.

Thank you for this video! It’s refreshing to see an objective and critical look at these very luxurious bags instead of the usual gushing and poetic waxing many do. I absolutely adore the look and feel of Chanel bags! They are classics for a reason. I was able to recently purchase my first Chanel, a medium flap on the second hand market for well below what even that market demands. It’s beyond gorgeous and is certainly the crown jewel in my handbag collection! It will probably be my only Chanel as the costs are just astronomical. I looked up pricing here in the US for new Chanels. Currently the mini is $4,400 USD, the 19 is $5,700, medium is $8,800, jumbo is $9,500, and the maxi is $10k! I will have to content myself with my one Chanel and my bigger collection of COACH, Saint Laurent, and Polènes…and I’m perfectly happy with that. 😊

Honestly, Chanel has the worst customer service. My bag has been with them since Aug Sep 2018 and upto now April 2019 Chanel has not fixed the discoloration issue on pink rectangular mini flap. I was informed they cannot do anything to restore or fix it. So it's not value for money. And yes I experienced so many quality issues with Chanel bags which makes me not want to buy and add any more Chanel bags in my handbag collection...

that's unfortunate. my hardware on my jumbo flap had some normal wear & tear first the first time after 7 years. when i brought to the store, the repair specialist said that's normal wear & tear and chanel can certainly fix/replace it at a cost (i think ~$120) but she waived it without even me asking. She told me it would take 6-8 weeks but it was ready for pick up after 3-4 weeks. They were so nice to me even though I wasn't even buying anything.

if you want to shorten the longer chanel straps, use a velcro strap, or the chanel ribbon. that's what I do to shorten the strap on my jumbo when I want to use it as a shoulder bag.

There are plenty of other Chanel styles out there besides the classic flaps. Fashionphile has a ton. I bought a Chanel bag from there that I’ve never seen anyone with and I get compliments every time I wear it. It’s still a Chanel bag after all, and I paid a fraction of what the classic flaps cost. If you’re not in love with the classic flap but want something Chanel, check out some of the other styles pre-loved!

I agreed with u. Chanel increases their prices yearly. Thats crazy! I love bags but not too much to own many of the same brand bags. I think it is awesome to have a small flap for special occasion and a decent size (like coco handle size M-L) for daily use.

You're spot on re classic flap odd sizes and strap lengths. I adore the classic flaps that my eyes would go really wide whenever I see one! I had a medium flap but found it to be too small; the jumbo in caviar too heavy; the mini quite annoying for lacking card slots, so I sold all of them. Eventually I got a 227 Reissue but I sold it too and got a 226 instead. The 226 is a perfect size, lightweight, fuss-free and perfect for crossbody but I don't love the look as much as the classic flaps. I'm still keeping it and have been using it the most aside from my WOCs. Recently I bought a red jumbo CF in lambskin and am loving it so far as it's not as heavy as caviar and isn't as delicate as what most people make it out to be. Hopefully this one is a keeper besides the 226 :)

I bought Jumbo mainly because you told that is the best size. it is too heavy, too bulky for me. I bought square mini because I wanted something for an evening. it is fine. but I think if I have only medium size it would not need two. medium is good for evening and would be much better for me for all other occasions. In both bags I dislike strap length as you told. Still I am happy that I am an owner of two chanels and want more of course.

Loved this video! I bought a jumbo because of all the hype, but only used it a couple of times since it was overwhelming on my petite frame. I replaced it with a m/l thinking I would use it more, but ultimately the mini is my favourite size!

This is very true... I was originally going for the medium/large, but I'm 5'11 and it looked silly across the body. Whereas the jumbo ♥ looked perfect! The strap was long enough for crossbody and doubled up as the shoulder bag. The bag isn't as heavy or bulky as I thought it would be.

I have a small (225) reissue and love the strap drop length. I have to have bags that I can crossbody and love that about the reissue. This is something that always deters me from purchasing the cc classic flap, because the strap drop length is shorter, which doesn’t make sense. Ideally I would want a m/l in that style, but the fact that I wouldn’t be able to crossbody is a no go for me. I wish they would make the chain length the same across the board for the classics as well as the other bags. I have two WOCs and they both have really long strap drops. I think that’s what drives me crazy the most.

I like your video Amy! I agreed with many of your points. I have two Chanel boys, 1 classic medium, 1 mini and 1 Chanel coco handle. I would say I barely used any of these on a daily basis. I used the Boys quite rarely when I’m out and about on a causal short trip from home. I have a 1000$ wallet in Tiffany blue from the past season that I have never used for fear of it getting old. It was indeed a waste of money for me and looking back I probably should not have purchased any of those. My most often used bags are Fendi small by the way, Celine box bag or small big bag. I also like Moynat Rejane. They feel more comfortable and easier for everyday styling and fit more things esp my sunglasses soft case. My next wishlist is Loewe hammock. I never wish for anything more from Chanel.

I agree about the price per wear being so high. I think you can make a Chanel you’re every day bag, but like you said in your other point, you need to really think about how the bag will fit your lifestyle. I just sold my Jumbo to my mom for this reason (with the understanding that it will be coming back to me someday 😁), but I bought a business affinity that will be my daily bag.

So true! The size and chain length are just weird. You will look super graceful with Kelly 25 or 28. I used to think Birkins are not that aesthetically pleasing as Chanel’s Classic Flap, but after owning them, they completely changed my mind: the quality of both leather and craftsmanship are so amazing, suddenly my Chanels can no longer match up to. The simply elegant style of both Birkins and Kellys are easy to match with every daily outfits I have. Then I finally understand why there are so many people swear by their Birkins and Kellys. Thank you for the video!!! You really had me thinking about the factors to consider when buying a Chanel bag. Last year, I went to a Chanel boutique in Las Vegas and tried the classic flag bag in jumbo and small...it looked gorgeous and looked more gorgeous on me! It really is a beautiful bag yet so expensive! Buying the bag is a serious purchase like buying house or a car especially when you don't have cash to burn. For now, I'm giving myself time to save money and think about all factors such as financial situation, cost per wear, and lifestyle when it comes to buying a classic flag bag.

Love your channel, and this a great video idea! I do have to say that I'm not sure I agree with number 1. There is not one style of Chanel bag. They have many different styles ranging from formal to very funky and out there. There is much more to Chanel bags than just the classic flaps. I do completely agree with you that the Chanel price increases are out of control. I don't think I will be buying any more new Chanel bags. They don't seem to be worth the money. Very insightful. (After extensive research😀) I bought a pre-loved single flap jumbo in caviar w/ silver hardware 4 years ago and I still love it to this day. I use it as an everyday bag--work, & weekends. I'm only 5 ft tall and I don't find the jumbo to be bulky and since it's a single flap, I'm able to carry all my essentials without it being heavy. The silver hardware makes it look very casual for daily use. I could not afford to buy the brand new ones so I'm happy with just owning 1 (pre-loved) chanel handbag😀
