I've read over 35 books on emotional health, many of them over a dozen times. That being said, you dropped some serious knowledge in this podcast. Very good info. Keep up the great work!

I've listened to this several times. Solid advice as usual.

This is great wisdom, but so hard to hear. I have been married 27 years to someone who fears growth and development. I see small glimmers of hope, but then he goes back to disconnect, ignoring and shut down.

Can you link me to the episode about why it's good to interrupt your partner, please?

Idk, my parents were married for 40 years until my father passed away. My dad was madly in love with my mom and would tell her all the time that he felt like he was the luckiest man In the world to have her. He was not perfect, but was faithful, respected her, and my mom always showed deep respect toward him. Always. They didn't seem to have the kind of expectations we do today from our partners in romantic relationship. I don't think they focused on their relationship. They just lived life and put up with each other's shortcomings and focused on other things other than their relationship. Not sure I'd want that for myself, but they stayed together and were satisfied and secure in their marriage. Maybe we have been conditioned to expect too much from our partners and the relationship. It's all so complicated and daunting now. We're making it too hard.

I'm curious why your language isn't more inclusive particularly when you refer to guys as though all guys are heterosexual. Your principles and ideas are universal but it sounds like you're limiting your perspective to heterosexual marriage and relationships. You might want to think about your audience more, sir.

Because sometimes I'm talking from my own experience as a white, hetero male married to a white hetero female. and that's the bulk of people I work with, for better or worse.

@@JaysonGaddis I think universal principles are just that; universal. I appreciate you taking time to respond to my comment.
