This was actually super super useful to me. I always kind of felt that I needed to shop petite (sleeves are alwayssss too long on me, and most non cropped pants) but I'm 5'5" so I'm not technically petite. But these are great tips for me!! I need to take notes!

As an Image Consultant and under 5 ft, I'd like to compliment you on your helpful suggestions. I'd like to add shoe color that match the lower part of the clothing also give the illusion of being taller.

Love this video, I feel most videos about dressing when petite are tall model-ish people who assume everyone wants to look tall. Nailed it when Helen said she just want to enhance prorportion and look balanced. ❤👍

I always appreciate petite style content and your videos are always so down to earth and practical ❤ I've been thinking a lot about silhouette recently - finding that balance between what looks good on us vs what is practical vs what suits our aesthetic. Even if we never get it perfect, I feel like it roams around the venn diagram between these 3 aspects

Your videos are incredibly helpful to me! I have a lot of clothes similar to yours and did not know how to style them more than one way for my petite body (5 ft 2 1/4 inches) or how to shop for clothes to wear with what I already have. You’re so refreshing and down to earth and I really look forward to your videos. Someone mentioned in the comments they’d love to see a video on how you do your hair and I really would, too! Maybe you have tips on how to do it more quickly. It takes me forever, but no one would ever know it with the results I get! So I could really use help in this department, too! Thank you for your great work, Helen!!

Even though I am not technically "petite", "petite-friendly" definitely works for me! *^_^* As a Kibbe Flamboyant Gamine, I have long legs and arms, angular shoulders, a rectangular torso, and larger hands, but I am short-waisted with delicate wrists, etc. The lines of many of your recommendations really work for me - and I adore your classy, elegant, modern yet unique and fun style! The short/long contrasts work super well for me, too!

I think you really got all the tips down for petite styling I’m also 5’3 and I’m a size 6 -8 us so in between a small and medium and more athletic build and i find long necklace don’t work or wearing too chunky earrings also don’t work if I have short hair and/or if my hair is in an updo. Pointy toes shoes, almond shaped shoes are looking better then those big rounds toes platform shoes. Oversized blazer are also unflattering. The best clothing brand for petite (without shopping in the petite line) is Smythe for blazers, jcrew and Uniqlo I also buy a lot of my clothes from local designers in my city who have the same “shape” BodyBag by Jude, Melow par Mélissa Bolduc, Ève Lavoie and Marigold MTL . Small local designers usually make their patterns based on their frame because they are their own brand ambassadors :)

I’m a petite with a really narrow frame, it’s so hard to find clothes that fit in the shoulders and hips, even in petites. The huge, wide shoulders are a new, fast-fashion, thing, I rarely had this problem in the 80s-90s. Cheap brands are desperate to make sure nothing is ever too small for the largest frames, but that doesn’t work for most of us. (The height average for US women is only 5’4”, my height, but clothes are made for 6-foot tall, large-framed models) I look for cropped styles that I can also get in petite sizes. Banana Republic’s Luna cashmere Polo sweaters in Petite have been so great for me this last autumn/winter. This is my favorite sweater style and the best fit I’ve found in years, I bought it in multiple colors. More than 25 years have passed since the tunic/big top over skinnies/leggings silhouette was in style, but most tops still come down to my mid-thighs, it’s just crazy.

Sezane’s Betty cardigans are my favorite Lady Jackets/Cardigans because they have the collars I love, most don’t, and the plain round neckline is not my best. They are lovely quality, too.

I am petite , and don't like short /tight things, ever. Proportion is key. My go to uniform is a form fitting top and a looser bottom (skirts or pants). Oversized top needs a lot of tucking, folding to make it look presentable. While looser bottoms are more comfortable and easier to pull off. But with a slip skirt (more fitted) with slightly oversized sweater or knit top does look very nice. A looser silk top with fitted jeans also look nice. So agreed, small top/big bottom, or big top/small bottom do work well. Well done, Helen!

Hi, learned a lot of tips here as always. Thanks! ❤ Could you possibly make a video in the future on how to decide which type of pants are best to have it cut shorter/ankles or leave it almost floor length or do u need 2 pants of the same kind where one is long and one is shorter. I am 5’2 and always have difficulty with knowing the proper length of each pants I will wear. Thanks!

I’m not petite (168 cm) but have really short torso. This is really helpful, especially opting for cropped tops.

Yes I think it’s important to be aware of our balance ie long or short torso and legs. Also overall shape ie apple vs pear etc

I don’t know, I was 5’6” in youth, but always had a tiny, narrow frame size. People used to call me bird bones; I just am delicate-framed, you might be, too. I always looked better in petite styles, I’m also very short-waisted, with more length in the legs.🙂

This video was so helpful! Where can I find your cute little green woven bag?
@kimberlyperrotis89626 ай бұрын
I think your vertical proportions are similar to mine, 5’4”, that is, relatively high/short waist and longer legs. I know I have good length both in my legs and the lower, waist to leg break, part of my torso, but not so much between my waist and bust/shoulder. My ribcage is literally sitting right on my hipbones. Also, all tops/dresses are too low-cut, much too long and their straps, if any, are far too long on me. (I tuck in everything, unless it ends just at my waist, or at least well above my hipbone). Cropped tops and jackets often are perfect on me, just covering my waistband - they’re not belly-exposing cropped on me. I do think this body type is a bit easier to style than petites with shorter legs and longer torsos, but both can be visually lengthened with styling tips and tricks. I was also 5’6” in my youth, but the 2-inches of height I lost in middle age came from the spine region, not the legs. When I discovered just a year ago, how much height I had lost, I lost weight to compensate. I was basing my target weight on the BMI for an inaccurate height, no wonder I always thought I looked a little plump. Great tips, thanks, Helen.

I always hand wash all my wool knitwear unless it’s a layering base item. I wash in lukewarm water before pressing the water out. I place the knit on a towel and roll the remaining water out. I then dry flat. All my knitwear holds its shape this way (I knit as well, so this is a method that is tried and tested for all knitwear). Hope it helps x

We have only eco-friendly “dry-cleaning” here in California, so I get my Betty Cardigans and other fine sweaters dry-cleaned. I always wear a silk knit, long-sleeved tee underneath them, and all other sweaters, to keep them cleaner. Amazon has these for very reasonable prices (~$30 US) and they are so much easier to throw in the gentle cycle and hang-dry than hand-washing a thick sweater (which I can’t because of serious back injury).@@DailyHelenJ
