Being responsible for communicating is my favorite tip but the last being curious is a game changer for sure. I’m not adversarial in my communication but there are times I’ve been tempted. So both those will make me a much better communicator even with myself. I can get stuck in my head and frustrated but these two tips I can see freeing me into a better space with my listeners. Thank you

Fostering an environment grounded in trust, vulnerability, and authenticity is undervalued far to often. In my experience working in toxic environments, it was challenging to be honest, as admitting to a mistake often led to belittlement and degradation. This created a setting where everyone felt miserable and constantly on edge. I find it difficult to understand who benefits from such an atmosphere. It is far more advantageous for everyone involved to be in a safe and comfortable environment where individuals feel seen and heard, enabling them to thrive and perform their tasks effectively, without the concern of being singled out for harsh criticism or humiliation in front of their peers.

I feel like both the speaker and the listener are responsible for understanding the message, here's why: The listener is responsible to actively listen to what the speaker is saying so that they can decode and understand the message. That ofcourse is if the speaker did their part to convey the message concisely.
@notursocialguy792 жыл бұрын
I think you have a bit of a contradiction. You start off with an explanation 👍🏽 but end it with solidifying the importance of the "Speaker" having the responsibility of holding that responsibility. There part convey/understanding of the conversation and their request/topic or what have you as in topic of conversation the Conveyor is initiating

Very interesting points. for me, listening is the most important. I have this disability that when the speaker talks, it takes a little for me to hear and understand. so I say pardon me, and the speaker repeats his sentence, but before he finishes, I get the meaning. In another word, there is a delay of a few seconds that I get the meaning of his word or phrase, or sentence. and I wonder whether for an interview I should say this disability to the employer or not.

Dr. Lee: This is the second video of yours I've viewed and your face and presentation seemed familiar. Surprise! I subscribed a few years ago. You challenged me with tip 4: Hold the responsibility for communicating. Immediately my mind went to the scene in "Cool Hand Luke" where the Captain - warden of the prison facility in Florida - announced to the convicts, "This is a case of a failure to communicate." I joke with myself about that film often (over the years, I've realized that Luke was a nihilist - but it will always be one of my favorite movies). Sometimes I ask, "Whose fault is it, Captain? It couldn't be yours, could it?" Of course, had Luke or any other inmate challenged the Captain, that inmate wouldn't have been long for this world. I'll share this also: when I began Naval training, we were confined to five basic responses: "Yes, sir;" "No, sir;" "Aye, aye, sir;" "I'll find out, sir;" and, "No excuse, sir." The response I latched on to was, "No excuse, sir." So when I see you stress that the initiator is responsible for his message being received, it resonates with me. Thank you.
