The world has changed so much. Back in the 80's Gi joe, Barbies, Hot wheels playing outside and riding your bike was part of daily life as a child. Now, it's electronic this and that cell phones ipads, tablets . Staying indoors for many . Also the number of great tasting cereal directed towards kids has dwindled in amounts. Change is change. Memories are forever !!!

The sheer abundance of Cereal ads makes this a fantastic set. LOL, yeah "Sonny" doing his best W.C Fields impression really speaks to kids of the '80s.
@Zanaaa509 жыл бұрын
+GrowinupinSincity81 -- As an 80s Kid I watched A LOT of old B&W films so I think that it isn't out of place to use W.C. Fields as a reference at all
@GrowinupinSincity819 жыл бұрын
Good point. Thanks to "Disney Channel" and Nickelodeon replaying the old animation shorts, you would routinely see Cartoons doing funny caricatures of Hollywood stars of the "Golden Era." Marx Brothers, Shirley Temple, etc...
@Zanaaa509 жыл бұрын
GrowinupinSincity81 Yes! That's right! But they didn't have those cable channels in a lot of communities until the late 80s-early 90s so it was, for many kids, the local TV channels heavy programming of "Golden Era" old-timey movies and cartoons that was super entertainment!
@80sCommercialVault9 жыл бұрын
+MsFarzee I actually knew who W.C. Fields was as a kid, maybe not by name, but I knew of his overall character from old Disney Silly Symphonies. I still think a "modern" 80's ad referencing him is a little strange, but people did seem to watch older movies and shows more back then.
@Zanaaa509 жыл бұрын
80sCommercialVault Hello there! Yes people did watch more older movies and shows back then -- I am astonished when I think back on it. Lots of B movie content aired on TV back-in-the-days so of course kids watched too we had no other viewing options on the dial lol
@Tr0nzoid8 жыл бұрын
If that "One To Grow On" segment were made now, it would be defensive of the kid's fears of the dark while stressing sensitivity, and calling the kid who was scaring him a bully.

I grew up in Waterbury ct during the early wtxx years (that's my wife's pic.) and I remember that bumper. I was in elementary school and when I got home it was homework then He Man. Those were the TV Pow days with TX Critter and friends. You would call in and when you seen the little video game on screen, you would say pow as if you're really shooting. My mother and step dad had gotten me Battle Armor He Man that Christmas. I had the Capn Crunch map and stickers. I put the stickers on the kitchen cabinet. Had the Smurfberry crunch cereal also. wow, childhood was cool. Thanks for posting this. I was 12 in 1984. Right on man.

CHiPs Patrol was an alternate name for CHiPs in syndication. It was a common practice with series from the late 70s/early 80s still on their respective networks to have an alternate name for their syndicated runs to not confuse viewers (for example, The Rockford Files' syndicated name was Jim Rockford, Private Investigator) I also had no idea Henry Silva was a juggler!
@Endymion7665 жыл бұрын
I always thought it was unfair that the poor Coco Bird, was always goaded into eating the cereal that made him wacky while he was trying to get sober, while the Trix Rabbit was always kept from the cereal that had his namesake and just wanted to partake occasionally. Trix is for kids, but Cocopuffs is for everyone. What an outrageous double standard!
@markoniusmaximus38935 жыл бұрын
True, it seems like none of the cereal characters ever got to partake of the sugary magic they were peddling.

"CHiPS Patrol" was the title used for off-network reruns, as until the mid-80s, syndicated reruns required an alternate title be used if the series was still in production at the time (Happy Days Again, Laverne & Shirley & Company, etc).

Lucky Charms didn't have purple horseshoes yet at this time. When Lucky lists the names of the tasty marshmallows, I always add "and purple horseshoes."
@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
The purple horseshoes were added in 1983, so they were in the cereal at the time these aired. The ad here just predates their addition to the cereal.

@@80sCommercialVault I used to beg and cry at my mom to get Lucky Charms just because it had the purple horseshoes. Turned out they were exactly like the usual marshmallows. Also, if Lucky Charms does any more commercials, they should get Jacksepticeye to do the voice of Lucky. I would love to hear his take on the character.

Before we had cable, we've managed to receive a few UHF stations (besides VHF). One of them was WTXX. I recall seeing "Woody Woodpecker", "Tom & Jerry", and "The Pink Panther" cartoons on WTXX. I also recall TV Powww in between with JJ and TX (maybe TX got that name because of ET). 5:13 I dig the way the voice over says "The Amazing Spider Man and The Incredible Hulk." :-D 5:15 That Pac Man cerial commercial sounds like it's in a cathedral. 10:44 I found it funny to hear Tom Carvel's voice in that Carvel commercial. I absolutely remember the TV Powww that is mentioned during the J.J TX commercial. but it was shown on channel KTVT Channel 11 in the Dallas/Ft Worth. It was like a game show for kids where they would compete over the phone for prizes by quite simply say "Pow" over the phone to shoot the objects on the screen. It was very cheesy, but fun at the time.
