These commercials aired on local Fox affiliate KTVU on March 10th, 1989
1. NES Max Controller
2. Ice Hockey
3. Scribble Sticks (I definitely got these in my Christmas stocking one year)
4. Big Red (You've gotta love these. And that's Peter Billingsly aka Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" as the boy with the tuba)
5. Twix
6. Pocket Rockers (So I guess these used answering machine tapes?)
7. Sunkist Fun Fruits (The non-laughing tree in this commercial doesn't give me as many nightmares)
8. Play-Doh Make-a-Meal
9. Doublemint Gum (Man, these twins sure got around...)
10. Mr. Potato Head (I never actually owned one, though I'm pretty sure my preschool had one)
11. Dolly Surprise (I can't wait until genetic engineering makes nightmarish hair growth like this possible!)
12. Vidal Sassoon (So she's a dog walker? What?)
13. Jell-O Pudding Snacks (I was addicted to the chocolate ones. I could probably eat a whole pack of them in the span of a half hour without adult supervision)
14. Oxy Clean
15. KTVU Giants Bumper
16. "Punky Brewster" Commercial Bumper
17. S&K Toyota
18. Corn Pops (LOL, Corn Pop head kid looks EXACTLY like Dr. Bunsen Honeydew from the Muppets. Also, Corn Pop dog is frightening)
19. Caramello (Ok, this commercial HAS to be British in origin)
20. Head & Shoulders (With Christopher Meloni! If I ever find myself in a casual conversation with one of my friends about dandruff shampoo, I just might have to kill myself)
21. Youth For Service (With the future mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown! OMG!)
22. Dodge Colt GT
23. "Punky Brewster" Commercial Bumper

In elementary school, circa 1994 or so, my 4th grade class had a computer with a LD-ROM drive. I remember it involving little sound and video clips mostly, which seemed pretty high tech for the time.

LOTS of great memories here!!! That Mr. Potato Head jingle has been etched into my memory for as long as I can remember!! If I remember correctly, my younger sister and I had the Play-Doh Make-A-Meal set, as well. And I KNOW, a friend of mine had a Dolly Surprise. : )

I love how the Pocket Rockers had Genesis and Phil Collins!! Those kids were listening to some damn good music. The 80's were the by far the best years of my life.

I wanted those Scribble Sticks SO BADLY as a little kid. My mom never yielded on getting me some since she was so terrified they were going to stain the tile on the wall. :C

About this volume: when the Play-Doh ad first aired, my brother, friend and I used to change the lyrics and sing, "With Play Doh you can make a meal impossible to EAT!". And it sure sounds like the singer says, "Farts" and not "Parts" the first time on the Mr Potato Head ad. The song in the Twix ad is "Oh Yeah!" by Yello (1983). And why does the Vidal Sasoon lady kiss the window? I've wondered since the 80's. It's unsanitary. I laughed 5 minues straight at Dr. Honeydew in the Corn Pops ad.

I too think the Caramello ad was possibly British in origin... the dude sure looks like one!!!! How did they combine Laserdiscs with those crappy computers? I don't remember LD - ROM back in the days :D :D :D

So funny - I haven't seen that Vidal Sassoon commercial in over 20 years, but when I saw it again I remembered to look for the hair that flies out of her head at the end, like I always used to do. Crazy how your brain remembers things!!!!

So, Pocket Rockers. I still have one and few tapes that work. Answering machine tapes would have been an improvement. Little, like, 1cm wide loop of tape in vomitus colored case would be more accurate. 2 kickers with them. #1: The songs weren't always the whole song. My "Walk Like An Egyptian" one cut out after "...the donut shops" and then looped back. #2: Since it was continuous loop tape, you could manage to get the tape flipped over inside the case and produce interesting results.

3. You couldn't get away with a commercial like that today on the grounds that showing kids in a bathtub brings up all sorts of Pedo-Bear vibes. 5. Do they still make peanut butter Twix? All I see anymore are the original caramel ones. 12. I loved the Vidal Sassoon shampoo and conditioner. It's too bad that they don't sell it in the USA anymore.

"5. Do they still make peanut butter Twix?" Kind of. They're sold under the name Twix PB now. There's a difference though. Whereas the typical Twix uses a butter cookie, Twix PB has a chocolate cookie.

Which Teenagers again...want to listen to Genesis or Phil Collins?!? I'm not saying anything against them since they are both very good. It's just they don't strike me as marketing to teenagers.

0:30--Washable soap-based crayons?!?! Yikes; I've never heard of these. 1:00 and 3:32--Two of the many great jingles used by Wrigley's over the years. i had outgrown "kiddie" shows by the time these aired (in fact I turned 18 the month this volume aired), but these Wrigley's commercials were all over "grown-up" TV also. 2:01--Most of the acts mentioned in the Pocket Rockers commercial could be called "golden oldies" nowadays--LOL! 3:01--I wonder how many kids tried to eat the meals that were "fun to make, but impossible to eat"?

WOW, a playdough add about food before they actually had to put in the commercials "fun to play with but NOT to eat" because of the children out there that actually try to eat the play doh.

Eating play doh isn't particularly dangerous besides for possible germs from being handled.

As a Rangers fan, that Giants commercial proved prophetic in late October this year...:( Given the amount of hair he has now, it's rather ironic that Chris Meloni did a shampoo ad. I guess Head & Shoulders didn't come with Rogaine. I'm pretty sure that was the specific Big Red ad that Verizon parodied earlier this year. Still one of the best jingles of all time. I didn't like the Twix ad, but it's still better than today's "Use them to think of a lie" ads they have.

Thanks Purple. Yeah, just like the guy below says, they do make PB Twix... but the PB Twix now have chocolate cookie, whereas the old school PB Twix were the same cookie as the caramel Twix... just like any old man, I like things the way they were!!!

So, in the H&S Ad... Was it the 'Main' or the 'Maine' Lodge??? I'm Guessing it wasn't ME... As the best Ski-Spots in New England are in Vermont! (Well... Some in New Hampshire!) & 'YES'! That was Mr. Meloni in the Ad! You can tell by the voice!

1. Anyone else find the end of that Jell-O Pudding commercial creepy? The father doesn't says a word or change emotion, the fridge door closes so it gets dark, and kid is like "Dad? Dad?" 2. The ska beat for the song in the Corn Pops commercial is catchy as fuck 3. Chris Meloni in that Head And Shoulders commercial ruled. 4. Why did the dude in the Caramello commercial stretch his TV vertically. Gotta widescreen that shit son!
