Very interesting subject worth keeping it talked about again and again. It reminds me of Dr Seignalet's book "l'alimentation ou la troisième médecine" published in 1996 already! Exactly what is preconised nowadays. Stunningly precursor in a time where the information network was not what it is now. Also stunningly honest since dr Seignalet warned about the limitations of his diet, he underlined the diseases his diet won't cure. At the time a bit revolutionary in the medical sanhedrin since only terminal patients were sent to him plus suddenly lots of his conservative colleagues ceased to talk to him, considering him like a charlatan and a lunatic. Rip dr Seignalet, nobody's a prophet in his own country...

Also not all fruit is created equal - strawberries, banana, blueberry and lemons are a lot healthier than mango or oranges which are very high in sugar and limited in micro nutrients. Strawberries you mentioned have a compound that blocks the absorption of some of it's sugars so even what you see in the lab results isn't so accurate. One reason they are Keto friendly.

That would be a big mistake in my opinion and in the opinion of many other "experts" I follow. This diet will make you sick or keep you sick for several reasons, including the recommendation to eat grains and the suggestion to go "low fat." I suspect the My Plate protocol is too lenient with respect to fruit consumption and it's likely too restrictive in protein consumption. The My Plate strategy is a variation of the old food pyramid that is responsible for making us sick and placing Americans into the metabolically most unhealthy population in the world.

I read somewhere, years ago, that you should always read the list of ingredients on the packet. If there's any word that you can't pronounce or don't know what it is, then don't buy it because it means it's been processed and got non food chemicals in it. I've followed that advice over the years and ended up with a very similar diet to the one he describes. 😊
@stanj72232 жыл бұрын
My variant on that: if my grandmother couldn't pronounce it, then it doesn't belong in my meal. I've followed that for 35 years now. I was an organic vegetarian for 25 years, now an organic omnivore in a three-way blend of Paleo 2.0 / Autoimmune protocol / Mediterranean. My blood work is stellar, except for the high LDL and non-HDL cholesterols. Amusingly, those both LOWERED when I went from vegetarian back to omnivore. Doc still isn't happy about it, but last scans continue to show *no* atherosclerosis, so I'm good with above-normal cholesterol. I'm 63, and healthier than nearly everyone half my age at work.

I couldn't get the seizures under control until I started a ketogenic diet-- the kind that is 60% fat (modified Atkins, see the Charlie foundation). My seizures resolved, but so did a lot of problems that I had been told were psychosomatic or psychological in nature. The food supply is broken when 80+% of the population is sick. Now that keto is popular (well, not really keto, but low-carb)-- it's taken a weird vibe where dietitians mock the keto crowd. Nobody eats ketogenic diets long-term without a reason. That reason usually involved improved feelings of well being.

I love having it with black tea or green tea! What worked for me in weight loss would be "go for that satisfy you , feel ups you but don't have much taste" like if u go for bland black tea or green tea this is actually bitter and helps with sodium! For me ^^ keeps me fuller! Also the fat and protein rich meal with so little salt helps so much! I dun get hungry just after the meal my digestion is smoother than ever! And I actually didn't go for taste instead went for what feels me up such as fat , protein and that bitter tea! ^^ and felt much better overall! My skin is shining , and all acne has gone! The damage can come from eating a low fibre diet since childhood, antibiotics, lack of exercise and even psychological problems and trauma can cause negative alterations in the gut microbiota independent of diet. I had to quit watching as soon as you mentioned “my plate”. There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. After years of living with type two diabetes and being told that I “needed carbs”, I finally began doing my own research, realized that I suffer from hyperinsulinemia (why has no doctor or diabetes specialist told me this?) and need to treat carbohydrates as though I am allergic to them. In doing so, I have been able to lower my blood sugar from an A1c of 8.2 to a 5.6. I have also lost over 70 pounds, and as long as I avoid carbs I have significantly less joint pain and inflammation. I have also been able to drop all of my diabetes medications except metformin and I’m hoping that will go with my next doctors appointment. My plate plate is not a be-all end-all for everyone and to basically tell everyone to follow the standard American diet is doing a disservice.

~5:45. Paraphrasing: Eat a diet of mostly whole foods is healthiest. Sadly, I walk through the grocery store and there are mostly bad choices. Further, I see a lot of people use gas station for most of their food. Useless you think cigarette count as a green leafy vegetable, gas station are not ideal. We have food distribution and transportation system that makes health lifestyles hard. Infrastructure changes created this problem and infrastructure changes is how to solve it. Pass the salt.

Youth needs to know that the best time to find an "exercise" ROUTINE is when they are young teens! The motivation is there, at least it should be, there's time to find something that works for your body and later in life, they'll find it sticks with you. What's learned about your own body at a younger age helps you with the aging process and how the body changes. We have a better handle on what works for us and what doesn't. It's easier if you have to change up. You have the insight on what was working and what may not be working at an older age. Intermittent sports are good but establishing a "routine" you do day in and day out for at least 7, 8 years has the most dramatic effect on body and especially, mind. Thank you for your great videos!

it's 1. a balance of what you eat, when you eat, how often you eat and how much you eat, which 2. depends on how much and how often you exercise, and the type of exercise, and 3. your metabolism, circulatory and immune systems. Simple.

Thank you so much for talking about this subject. It really helps us understand how we should eat healthy because we've heard a lot of stories and I personally don't know what to believe anymore about what is good or not. We really need doctor's opinions.

Excellent and informative video - thank you. As others have commented - the basic mantra should be Dr. Michael Pollan's famous quote: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants". The Japanese are generally much healthier than their American counterparts - even though many of them eat the same junk "food". So is it genetics? Could be but another explanation is that the servings of these junk "foods" are much smaller in Japan then they are in America.

As a general rule of thumb, I like to see colour on my plate when I eat! I find the colour very appealing and believe that the variety of colours probably gives me a wide range of vitamins and minerals. After all most processed food seems to be boring white or brown!!!

As a trainer, I teach people to steer clear of fad diets because it’s just not a safe or effective way to truly change your lifestyle. I also teach that people need to address illness rather than just workout and eat because you can’t fix anything if you’re unwell inside. So many truths in this video!

How do you find out if you are metabolically ill? What blood tests do you need?
@tonynes35772 жыл бұрын
Following to EAT LESS and intermittent fasting; that is the key. It takes a bit of a conscious decision. At 60+ yrs old, I've noticed that my prostate is less bothersome, less of a problem to urinate when I eat one to two good meals a day, paying attention to good nutrient rich foods. And other things such as good exercise and sleep, pumpkin seeds and for me, no alcohol anymore.

Hey Doc Mike...I am w you on this video! Eat a variety of healthful unprocessed foods and get rid of sugar..we do not need it in our current lifestyles....Also..healthy fats are good but not too much! And an important point for people to heal their metabolism and lose weight....a small amount of weight loss can be a big help....what does 3 pounds of butter look like? Keep up the good work Dr. Mike of rational thinking and teaching! ( retired Public health nurse)

@LENZ53692 жыл бұрын
Not a Dr but I can rub a couple confounding factors together and maybe also spot a p-hack. Part of the problem is the use of the vague, unscientific terms like "healthy" and especially "healthy food". Short of an extreme diet or medical condition; virtually everyone in a developed country is getting sufficient nutrition -so the actual issue is moderating energy (calorie/joules) intake/expenditure, while ensuring that you don't end up skewing your diet in the process of reducing your intake -this reduction will naturally reduce energy dense foods with high sugar and fat; in favour of more 'filling' or longer term satisfying ones.

I got turned off when you described a category of food as "Proteins." There's no such thing as proteins being a certain food. Protein is found in lots of foods, such as broccoli. If you eat a plant based eating plan, you'll get all the protein needed.
@athens314152 жыл бұрын
Not all Proteins are the same -- proteins have different amino acid compositions, which is what matters. Protein from broccoli is less complete than protein from chicken, just by sheer diversity of amino acid profiles.

Valuable information dr. Mike, leaving in Greece I know the significance of balanced food which I always follow plus working out 5 days a week. Need to mention that in my father's village people leave long and healthy. Many have reached the age of 100, my father is 93 with no health problems and for sure it is because we only use olive oil never butter and eating healthy as you have mentioned. You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Lower stress, reduce obesity and more exercise are key to a healthy life. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Fast food and sugary drinks are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity. Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly. Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community

Hi Dr. Mike, I just had a physical (02-25-22) and my doctor had blood taken and one of the things he checked was my COVID antibodies since I had both Pfizer vaccine shots and the Pfizer booster (taken 6 mo after 2nd vaccine shot, Jan 2022). He told me that my antibody level was 2500 and proceeded to explain what that meant. I have not had COVID nor been sick since the start/duration of the pandemic. He did emphatically say that I should not take another vaccine due to the antibody level mentioned previously. Could you give some info regarding what these antibody levels mean? Thanks
@carolcole5702 жыл бұрын
I guess this is the first ray of respect I have felt for a man in the medical field ! Stick with your doctor. Clearly you are completely clueless as to the whole vaccine thing. I feel very sorry for you. But, hey, don’t that that very wise doctor get away from you !!!!!
@ireneswackyjournals88102 жыл бұрын
Ask him if he is referring to ANCA levels. ANCA levels are the overall autoimmune levels, too high and it could mean that you always had an autoimmune disease. As with a higher autoimmune level, any interaction with a virus raises it. And a vaccine is a neutralized portion either it’s a spike protein or a full virus that’s neutralized. If it’s just the Covid immunity it could mean that it’s there so you are fine for a few more months. If you get exposed to it your immunity kicks in. Also, what’s to say that you aren’t one of those blood types that gets Covid but with minimal symptoms

Then what do you say to the claim that fats are what block the ability of cells to take up insulin? And the fact that people placed on high carbohydrate whole food diets, with no fatty food or oils, and no animal products, appear to reverse and even cure type 2 diabetes?

Many of us are! I am 61 and overweight and after many years I’d dieting and falling off track have decided to commit to a whole foods, primarily vegan way of eating knowing that this has to be for life. I have lost 15 kg so far. Interestingly after about four days sugar cravings go away and you can fill your plate with low carb veges or salad so your belly is full. As I see it now I have a choice of long term dietary change or long term illness and medications.

I'm the same. Try Swerve or other alternative sweeteners; they're not artificial. Most leave a sweet aftertaste in the mouth, many too much, imo, like Stevia. However, it really helps with cravings and I think may even help with ketosis, just an idea I have.

Balance and variety. Avoid processed and gmos. Limit but dont eliminate meat.. Minimise sugar and artificial sweeteners. Minimise going out but cook in the kitchen. Maximise organic, plant based ingredients. Maximise whole foods (foods that dont come with other ingredients). Focus your diet around gut health. Do this and you will go far.
