Cool drifter…Back in the day I had a 100amp Old School Mamba Max Pro with a 5700kv in an Exceed drifter and it was a little buzz saw…But I might have to sell one of my crawlers to get one these ones I’m glad Traxxas has stepped into the drifter scene because they always had good support throughout the years when it comes to replacement parts✌🏼🤙🏼

Really honestly curious to see there thoughts on it in comparison to other RTR rigs priced the same. I used to drive the RMX2.0s kit and really surprised to hear he thinks it drives better than the redcat. Honestly to me at first glance the redcat outdid all now 4 RTR cars (mst, yokomo, traxxas, redcat) when it comes to features.

I’m new to the whole RC hobby basically got in at June 15 of this year on a whim and out of all the aspects of RC cars I think drifting is my least favorite. I actually bought a cat or used it in my driveway twice and returned it. I have a nice blacktop driveway and it’s still ate up those tires in a total of 10 minutesand it drove like crap on my driveway and I had a feeling it would and I told myself to not buying only drift car with drift tires, but I finally did and I paid the price and had to return it. I normally would’ve kept it but in the two months or so I’ve been in the hobby. I probably bought 55 cars and space is a premium. Matter fact, I’m in front of my house running my 1970 Chevelle and FedEx just dropped off a new car Ill post in on my KZbin in a min

Because this car isn't a good drift car. If you're new to rc drifting, you'll not experience what a real drift chassis can do in terms of driving and setup, and you'll be very limited when times come to upgrade it. This guys know how to drive a drift car and have the skills to do it with this limited angle, but a beginner can be quickly discouraged if the car spins every time and the servo wobbles when you drive it. Why buy this and be very quickly limited and need to pay for upgades when you can buy a better car that runs great from the start and will cost you less money in the end ? RDX or RD2.0 chassis are way better for just a bit more money, you'll learn how to build it, setup a chassis, and be able to drive with other people and even compet with it with some practice. This Traxxas car is just good to play alone on a parking lot.

Because if you can learn how to drift this well and get to the point where you get a better level car you'll be better off because you not only are able to work with a limited angle but also the normal standard drift angle. I'm very unfamiliar with this whole thing but I just figured id throw my thoughts In from an outsiders perspective. Time will tell Maybe traxxas will come up with something to remedy the stearing angle. And also at the end of the day traxxas is a huge name in the hobby and will expose rc drifting to a huge audience. And isn't that a good thing at the end of the day?

Hmm.. at this price range, if I were into drifting, I would choose the Sakura D5, 350$ would definetly get you d5 kit complete with cheap motor and electronics. Traxxas is known for having really good plastic strength, but that isn't needed as much here. Maybe Traxxas could create a good frame or conversion kit that allows for a high steering angle and stability? and a lot of hop-up options and upgrades

I don't think you'll find a hard body with holes already cut, so anything with a 12.3" wheelbase and wide enough to get some tire coverage should work. You'll have to sort out your own way to mount it, but that's the fun part!

The servo is too slow for the gyro's brain in essence. It's "hunting" for the right placement, but the servo can't keep up.

Not impressed Traxxas. With a pack of real rift cars I do think you would see how bad it actually is. They mist the basic fundamentals that make drifting fun in a train. MST 2.5 is a great deal compared to this.

How many beginners do you know who can drift a train on their first day? The value this car offers is getting people with zero experience INTO the hobby, which we should all be thankful for. The learning curve isn't nearly as steep and it's a great stepping stone to bigger, badder, better things in the future.

We did that later on in the evening, I'm planning to film some trains to show the effects. I was able to door my friend's cars but not match angle or door them constantly. Still, it did make for a fun challenge but you have to really driveeee the car in order to stay in or with a train.

A lot of newcomers to the hobby likely wouldn't have money to burn, and this car doesn't offer ANY real adjustability that a true drift chassis does. So I would never recommend this to a new person. Because what will happen is the new person will buy this, get frustrated that it doesn't have anything that other chassis's tend to have. Then not have the money or be frustrated that they have to buy another chassis to get what they should have already. How would you go about shifting your weight balance in this chassis? You can't move the motor, you can't move the battery, you can't move ESC or receiver. Everything on this chassis is locked down unless you get really creative, and even then you still can't move the motor. Multiple times in this video there were "issues" with the steering angle. What happens the first time someone who owns this car discovers how much more angle a true good chassis has? How do they any additional angle from this one? They don't. To get a new person into the hobby, you recommend them a good chassis that can grow with them. Not a chassis that they will reach the limits of very quickly and not be able to work with. There is ZERO room for growth with this chassis, so don't please act like it's a good starting point. It is not.

@@UnrivaledPiercer In the few short minutes the guys had with the car before test driving it, there were already a few ways they found to potentially improve the drift performance through the stock adjustable elements of camber, toe and suspension travel. As a beginner, do you really want to spend potentially a thousand dollars to get a full pro-level drift car? What if you really hate the sport? Then what? This isn't meant to compete with those cars so a comparison is moot. You're right, there's limited adjustment in terms of weight distribution, but it's a nicely balanced car out of the box again, designed for an entry level driver who knows nothing about the nuances. The "issue" with the steering angle is there's not enough of it. However, nothing prevented any of the drivers from getting it around the track. Could they get as sideways as they're used to? No, but they're experts. Not really much of an issue for someone who's got zero experience. Like I said earlier in this response, the guys were already seeing ways they could improve on that. The aftermarket will always find a way! It's an entry level car that will provide hours and hours of fun for a casual enthusiast. The fact that it can go from parking lot drift basher to drift track is also something that will appeal to the thousands of beginners that don't have access to a drift track. I'd rather recommend something like this than a car that is exceedingly more complicated with a myriad of setup possibilities that might frustrate someone into never trying it again. Money is always a factor, and some people just want to have fun - this allows for that in spades.

@@UnrivaledPiercer Well, several people have already done great things by doing very little to it. The 4-Tec RWD has adjustable turnbuckles...something the MST RMX RTR's have never had...ever. I don't have an issue with 60 degrees of max steering angle because if you understand it at 60 degrees you won;t be able to at 90 degrees either. The only real problem i see is the servo being too damn slow. You can swap the large battery for a shorty battery and make it work easily, you can relocate the receiver/ ESC if you want to easily (most of us don't run our drift cars through water ever so sealed receiver box was just a bonus really)...simply by doing that you can shift weight around more towards the rear. Motor is already mid-rear positioning so really the only way would be to put it up high, if you so desire. Can't remember how many times i advised people to do this on their Tamiya TT-01/TT-02 RWD project builds to move weight to the rear. There have been so many people I watch purchase the MST RMX RTR (pick any version, 2.0 early, mid last, 2.5 etc) and post it up for sale less than a week later so the "getting frustrated" part is more of a "i cannot do this" vs "this car is shit" from what I've seen over the years. MST RTR's are also cost more money than this 4-Tec so newcomers that buy the MST RMX RTR have more of their dollars burned if they simply do not like drifting. The 4-Tec has a locked rear diff...well so does the Reve-D RDX. We are testing it from an out of box perspective, I think you are looking at it from a competition perspective. In any case, I appreciate your honest opinion instead of just saying two words like "it sucks".
