I like to think of the fountains at both the 9/11 Memorial in New York and at the Columbine Memorial in Colorado as having a double meaning: for some; the fountains represent the tears of a nation weeping and for others the fountains represent a soothing rainfall forever trying to wash away the horrors of those dark days.

I was only 13 years old when the attacks happened but I remember that day. I was leaving for school in the afternoon when I saw the news coverage on TV. I didn't really understand the magnitude of what had happened on that morning at the time. I only came to realize it a few years later as I aged and matured. Though I live in Brazil and I don't know anyone who was there on that day or anything of the sort, I often find myself watching stuff about 9/11 every once in a while and I always find myself moved, often almost crying. It's interesting how just hearing about someone else's suffering can trigger some emotions in some of us. I hope to one day be able to visit the memorial and pay my respects in person instead of just seeing it all through a computer screen. To all the people who lost their lives that day, from the passengers to the workers, to the brave firefighters, policemen and other members of the emergency services who gave their lives to save others, for those people and their families who had a huge chunk of their own lives so brutally and cowardly taken away from them, to all of them I send out my good wishes. May God rest their soul. May they never be forgotten.

I was 13 years old as well when I saw this on TV. But it had somewhat different vibe for me, as my country has been bombed by USA and other "brave" NATO countries, few years prior, when I was 11 years old. We had burning tower just like this in the center of Belgrade. Keep in mind that USA is the only country that dropped nuclear bomb on the whole city full of civilians. Twice. But as our teacher in our school explained us at the time, all the people that died in the 9/11 attack were innocent and did not deserve that. Hope USA has good teachers to teach their youth to consider why USA deserved to be attacked...

Regardless of weather the planes brought down the buildings, or that it was an inside job people died. Americans. Patriots. Your average joes. There was sons, daughters, mothers, fathers. All of them, someone's child that was each raised to change the world in their own way, and mercilessly had their life taken. We don't remember September 11th because of who was responsible, we hold ceremony to remember those who were lost, and that we as a country are stronger together.
