9 Kilowatts !! Through a 7 inch prop!!

14cell 2,000mah 120c battery, 7x7 Graupner speed prop. APD F-200a Esc....??motor?? ....The amp meter was peaking around 180 amps.. there was no voltage measurement but could be heard sagging a little on a longer run, so around 50v ball park under load. The fact that an off the shelf prop can absorb around 9 kilowatts without vaporising is the surprise of the day. The tips are quite easily supersonic, so I am surprised this hasn't damaged the blade, or indeed the RPM has not sent one of the blades to the middle of the earth..I will try a 7x14 folding prop next.. This is a real step forward for me in terms of power and pitch speed, so hopefully it will produce 500kmh in the Vasa Fusion airframe. I suspect a lot of power is being wasted through the supersonic tips, so in the future I will try a lower KV and more blades...Keep on pushing :-)

0:11 I calculated the diameter, number of blades and frequency and came up with about 42000rpm. Those blades' tips were going over 800mph. That's supersonic!

Wow thanks for the calcs! Yes, it was quite clear to hear that they were supersonic when we ran the motor that day, the noise was astonishing! That motor threw the prop off in the air and destroyed the back of the plane, motor, ESC and battery!... it did manage to land safely and was rebuilt with 740kv motor, and a stronger 7x14 prop and achieved 509kmh. If you look through my videos you will see the thumbnail with FPV goggles with googley eyes on, that is the run.

It is just a DC clamp meter, clamped over the positive power cable from the battery to the ESC.

It threw the prop off, which bent the motor shaft, which stalled the motor and blew the esc, which then became fully shorted and the battery went into meltdown, popped and leaked electrolyte! It also tore the plane a new arse hole. I am rebuilding now.

Because I can relate😅😅😅 I fly in Jordan (middle east) and sometimes the temperature here is over 40C, you won't believe how many of my high kv motors melted and therefore fed the short circuiting back to my esc... Burning my whole planes down!!!
