Well, I just get flooded with thousands of my classmates and friends questions about how to translate a thing into English...It's gotten to a point where I indirectly make their works and as the teacher knows I know the topic by far she just give me a big lapse to do the work or simply gives me a good grade.

I started to learn German by natural approach several weeks ago, and sometimes I feel like it's too much, like there's no chance to learn the language this way... but then I hear a song and understand a single word or a piece of lyric AND IT JUST RETURNS ALL THE HOPE EVERY DAMN TIME upd. point 8 is soooo relatable! polyglot dreams are like other world experience. my first one was about bernie sanders helping me to solve the crossword puzzle in an empty hospital hallway. we were talking in english (my native language is russian)

I learned Spanish when I was about 12-14, a few years after my grandfather died (who only spoke Spanish). My biggest regret was not learning it earlier so I could speak to him some times. So when I started having dreams of him in full Spanish, that was nice :) que en paz descanses, mi abuelo. 👌🏽

Lol me too. I"m Croatian and all the languages that I learn which are not from the Slavic group (same as Croatian), I study in English. The advantage is for sure that English-X Language has much more resources compared to our native language.. Especially if it is a non "popular" native language like mine.

When I was 10 I started watching makeup videos in English on youtube and I learned to do some makeup! With that came a bunch of vocabulary. Maybe I didn’t know what ”a chair” was but sure as hell did I know my ”seductive smokey eye looks”, ”blending with a transition colour” and ”tight-linings” haha

I think it's important to give yourself credit when you're making progress, too. It's very easy to dismiss your progress as not progressing far enough and focusing on what you can't do rather than what you can. Today I listened to a podcast in Spanish while reading the transcript. I understood about 90% of the words with the transcript, and I understood 100% of the discussion and context. Now, it would be very easy for me to say to myself, "Yeah, but you needed the transcript. You would've probably got lost without it", which is most likely true. But the fact is that six months ago I would've got lost even with the transcript. I know that my reading skills in Spanish are so much better than my speaking and listening skills, but the fact is that I can now read in another language! That's amazing! Am I where I want to be? No. But am I improving? Definitely!

I remember the first times English stopped being a bunch of nonsense sounds merged together in a conversation or piece of media and started to become ideas, words, images in my brain, something I could really understand in real time. It's magical. And also when I heard a song I hadn't heard for too long, since before I started to learn English, and now I could understand instantly. At the same time in my head I had the very familiar aspect of that, which was the sound and the completely new aspect, the meaning of those sounds. It's kind blowing

I love the "learning other stuff in another language". I´m Mexican and I´ve been taking some courses in english this quarantine and it really helps to keep the vocab fresh and learn new words and concepts. PS: Me encantan tus videos, sigue así! :)

German I realized has three different ways to say “to use.” Verwenden, benutzen, and nutzen. As well as different ways to use the “use” as a noun. “Die Verwendung,” and “die Nutzung.” Of course there are other ones as well, but it’s cool learning synonyms.

I love the feeling I get from number 4 as a year ago I was sat agonising over videos, songs and books that I was so desperate to just understand. Now when I feel down, unmotivated or just like trash I go back to all the old things I saved that I felt the same about back in the beginning and I can understand them either a little bit more or fully in some cases! I dreamt of Kanji once. And I've been speaking more and more Japanese in my dreams. Also, there's lot of Japanese musicians I like, and every time I re-listen to their songs, there is always something more that I understand. I keep some sort of mental progress bar for each song. Some of Japanese pop songs are hard to recognize for me though Japanese is my native language. Sometimes I don't even get what language are the lyrics sung in. On the contrary, clearly pronounced lyrics sound so beautiful like those of Mariya Takeuchi, Yosui Inoue, and Miki Imai.

I'm a chilean and yes, it is kinda weird, but it's not an "official conjugation" per say, it's actually a more casual one. Like, you wouldn't say "cómo estai" to your boss, but with friends it's okay

Oh my GOODNESS I love you to bits! Everyone of your videos makes me want to start contorting my fingers again. For me some of those checkpoints were how I realized I was losing my grip on Egyptian-Arabic, recently I watched a show that I used to watch as a kid and most of the puns went over my head. And just last week I was talking to one of my moms egyptian friends and I had to actively turn what she was saying into formal arabic and then try to figure out what those words meant.

It's totally making sense. Thanks for the video. What you say makes a lot of sense to me. Many of those things I have also thought about. Probably one of the most frustrating things about not being able to speak your native language is losing the ability to "get ahead" or "anticipate" what the other person is going to say. That happens to me being a latin american who lives in Germany. As a native speaker you can extract much more information from a conversation, beyond what is being spoken.

My experience learning languages has been for sure the best in my life. I never thought I could speak and understand more than one language since it is not something very cultural in the country I come from. However, once you get interested in doing it, you just can't stop. I'm pretty sure I could speak more languages than the ones I do right now but I was lacking focus. I’m still a beginner in my additional language (Korean) but like a few others have said filming yourself gives tangible proof you are improving. Also I try to set small achievable goals. For example if I learn the grammar for saying something in the present tense then I try to apply new vocabulary to that. Also i view progress by new things I notice. Whether it is words that stick out while listening to music or when I discover bad pronunciation for a word I don’t get discouraged by that but acknowledge myself for the growth. I am studying Hebrew by myself right now and find that you are right regarding the nine points you mentioned. Right now, one of the things that amuses me is to equate the letters of the written alphabet to things and making fun of that (and myself, by the way). In this process there is something that I am really glad that I did. Many years ago I started to learn Esperanto. And although one may not often be able to practice it, once one travels to Esperantujo (the name we give to the world of Esperanto and those who speak it) one notices that language has an incredible potential for logic. The logic of Esperanto somehow serves as a bridge that helps improve language skills in other languages. It was very useful when I studied French in school, for example. Besides, one can sometimes even read works originally written in Esperanto as well as texts that have been translated from languages that are not well known. I suggest giving it a try. I am going to geek out so much in this channel. Keep it all up :D I resonate a lot with the sign of picking up accents or different expressions. For example, whenever I watch anime or watch a Hololive clip (Agency of youtubers from Japan) I can understand the speakers point of view or emotional reaction whenever they change the way they express themselves. I also had the dream in a different language happen to me. It was so meta I still remember it to this day. I was born in Cuba so my first language is Spanish I leaned English at the age of 14 back in the old country, at 17 I moved to the US where I’ve lived for 20 years now, English has served me well, I started learning French two years ago and I took it with such seriousness and tenacity that in a matter of two years I’ve made tremendous progress, I’ve had a ton of conversations with native speakers at work, I’ve read a few books in French and I’m even journaling in this language and to add to what you just said I’m currently learning German in french!! i'm b2 in my portuguese (on that long haul to c2, baby!!) and i related soooo hard about the subjunctive...it's one of those things that when I studied grammar explanations, I got more confused. Even now, if i think about it too hard, I confuse myself, but when I speak it just naturally happens for me without having to think. Languages are all about pattern recognition, almost like muscle memory. Nice video and you're cute too :)

I'm fluent in both English and Spanish (being the last one my mother tongue) and right now I have an intermediate level in French after studying it for 4 months and 4 days and like a month ago I had my first dream in French, it was even more exciting that the first time I dreamed in English. 3:50 hahah i'm chilean, I'll explain you... this "conjugation" for the person "tu" is veryyy informal, instead of say "tu estas" the chileans sometimes say "tu estai" or instead of say "tu juegas".... is "tu jugai" ... or "tu entiendes" is "tu entendi" hahhaha and the chileans made one verb to use instead to "entender", is not a "official verb" beacause is "informal" but everyone say "cachas" instead of "entender".... and it becomes "tu cachai" with the person "tu" hahahha it's so weird but if you have friends who are chileans, you have to learn that phrases to sound natural in the informal speaking

Really interesting, kind of reminiscent of Italian verb conjugations for informal you. Like if you wanna say “you sing” it’s conjugated as “tu canti”. Even with the “ai” ending that you mentioned, Italian uses “tu hai” to say “you have” in the informal. I wonder if that is coincidence or related in some way

Dreaming in another language is such an interesting thing. I'm learning Japanese right now, and after being heavily immersed in the language ( talking to native speakers, playing games in Japanese, etc.) I noticed that I'll have dreams in Japanese! I won't remember what happened in my dream exactly, but I do remember hearing Japanese words and sounds, and it's fascinating.

About learning something through the language you are learning is something that is not just a sign of progress, but also a way of getting even more progress. When our brain treat a language not as the final goal, but as a mean to achieve another goal, it tends to learn it faster. It's the way we learn out first language, we don't even know we are learning a language, we are just trying to get whatever we want or need. I remember how fast I got progress in English when I was learning Chinese from English.

Ugh I feel stuck in my language that I'm learning! I've been listening to videos and radio and media like crazy but its hard to catch all the words... If I see subtitles while I'm watching, I can catch way more words, but I started self correcting and also correcting others. Also I can be a bit sarcastic in my target language and a few other things you mentioned. Just ready to be able to have a conversation easier.

Cause it used to happen to me in english and since I came to Brazil I began to dream in portuguese language and its totally wonderfull, is like to have some kind of superpower, being mighty.! hey , cool channel. I'm from Chile hahahah. The "mispronunciation" of the verbs with "Tú" has an etymological explanation. It comes from and older spanish, for example insted of "tú estás" would be "tú estais". However in Chile we normally don't pronunce some letters, for example the final "s". That occurs in almost all words with that characteristic... "lo auto" instead of "los autos" , "lo perro" - "los perros". And the pronunciation of that "ghost S" is with "acento prosódico". Now in spanish, este mismo fenómeno puedes encontrarlo en el español hablado en Canarias (España), en Andalucía (España). Pero esto es lo más normal dentro de lo raro que es la manera de hablar el español que tenemos los chilenos. Usamos muchas jergas (modismos) , refranes, metáforas, palabras prestadas de otros países vecinos , palabras del inglés. Es un desafío entendernos bien jajajajaja Congrats by your channel, i wanna be polyglot too.

honestly like anything its going to have plateaus ....but the thing is ....you just keep going .....im tired right now and not well so the last couple of days i feel not progress and so i give myself come grace ..but keep trying a little each day ..and next week i will be feeling better have more energy the weeks will pass ..and then the years ....and if you just keep with it instead of giving up ..it will come and if it doesn't it will come after more years.....its like learning an instrument its very hard ...its just dedication ..it might require your all.
