I remember watching a video on Spiderverse And they'd animate on Twos and Ones Peter Parker would be on Ones bc he's more trained And Miles would be on Twos bc he's still getting a feel for things

@@jjboi6008 that could be part of it, but i think miles’ lack of experience is more important to his character and the overall story, so that was probably their main motivation for animating him on twos

These are SO SO helpful. Of course every animator see's these rules in all the books...and likely drawn and maybe briefly in animated form...but the amount of time you give each principle really drives it home. I especially love all the 'with' and 'without' comparisons...You're a fantastic teacher and I will be using these as a memory booster regularly. Thank you so much for putting all the time you put into this and for sharing your expertise, you've given us all a real gift.

***** frame by frame animation, like hand drawn animation and timing like timing keyframes right, how many keyframes you should put in between animation and stuff i'm beginning flash and i want to know how too t
@awfulanimations8270
@awfulanimations8270 7 жыл бұрын
There isn't exactly "timing" with keyframes. You use keyframes to mark starting and endpoints for transitions. Techinically, if you were going to draw every single frame, you wouldn't really need keyframes. Keyframes are more for transformation, so you would mark the beginning of the transformation with one keyframe and the end with the other. Well, that's the quick and dirty of it. I'm realizing now after typing this that you asked this a year ago. I hope you understand keyframes by now, but hopefully this helps anyone else with the same or similar question.

I think this is only useful when you had to wait days for your animation to be back, so timing counted tremendously. These days you gotta step away from the screen and come back with fresh eyes to get a solid reading since everything is immediate or can be adjusted instantaneously. Out of all the principles of animation, this is one is the most obsolete given the tools we have today.
@HiHi-oc3gh

…what? How does leaving the screen affect where the drawings are? The principle is talking about how movements are faster when they are farther apart, slower when closer and talks about ones and twos

Ok, so I have a point of contention to bring up here. You're omitting the concept of *Spacing* and sort of conflating it with timing. The two's and one's difference is more about spacing than timing. Timing is how long something takes to happen(as far as the actual onscreen time), spacing is the space changed between drawings. If you increase framerate, you're not changing the timing, you're changing the spacing. Spacing is different from timing. Increasing the number of frames only changes the timing if you keep the same framerate. But if you were animating on 3's and then change one part to 1's, you're nor changing the timing. You're simply changing the spacing and making that parts smoother. Timing is about how fast it is in relation to other actions and what sort of rhythm the animation has as a whole. You can place drawings on 1's 2's 3's or whatever you please. If the plane example starts on frame 1 and stops on frame 5, the frame of the video isn't necessarily the same as the number of drawings. The drawings can be spaced unevenly, or you could remove the middle one while holding the 4th on 2. You end up with the same *timing*, but very different *spacing* of the plane accelerating through the middle and slowing at the end.
