I recommend going to local estate sales. Many people of the older generation have died and have a huge collection the kids need to get rid of.

Absolutely! I ended up finding a small Delta Rockwell drill press with a mortising attachment and got it for $25 for the whole setup. It was the last day of the sale which also helps a ton with better prices.

If you know you'll be using certain tools alot, then it's fine to buy the better brands. If not sure, then second hand or cheap brands is good, then upgrade. I have a makita table saw that i barely use, only paid $80 for it used. Works good.

Second hand is great regardless. Marketplace is the best for getting your tool collection up w/o going broke. I found my CNC, planer, drum sander, 12” bandsaw, brand new Bosch edge router and drill/driver, beautiful cabinet grade plywood super cheap, insulation for my garage, brand new Delta contractor tablesaw, jointer, track saw, lots of bessey and Jorgensen clamps, and more all on marketplace within 6 months w/o killing my wallet.
@charitiekbyrd15 ай бұрын
@@iprobablywontseeyourreply.7193so true, marketplace is a great place to get tools cheap if you have limited funds or if you just want to try it out without going broke. Another good place is certain pawn shops will sell stuff cheap too. Sometimes you can catch them on a sale at pawn shops as well. I have gotten most of my tools through marketplace and pawn shops and it didn't cost anywhere near what it would have been if I bought them new. Just be patient and look around in other places to find what works for you. Good luck and be safe 💯😁

I always see everyone using DeWalt. Is this the best brand or is this an American thing ( i'm Dutch ) ? I'm thinking about Makita and i prefer to stick to one brand ( batteries ) but wondering what everyone's opinion is ...
@thefitnessguy22174 ай бұрын
DeWalt makes good tools for the price, they have figured out all the bugs on their table saws and miter saws. As far as the battery powered tools, they are almost exclusively made in China and they just put a different color plastic on the outside.

What does a table saw do that you can’t do with a circular saw? If you’re saving money can you just use a circular saw for cuts or is there something that you can’t do with a circular saw?
@maceg0038 ай бұрын
In theory yes.... but you would need to create jigs etc and spend money on the wood / hardware to cut that wood in the same way a table saw would do it. Plus if you are doing this as a full time job, time is money, so if you can spend less time setting the jigs / blade / saw up, you can move onto a new task / job quicker.
@chuckgraham16957 ай бұрын
Cutting dado's and tenon's straight off the top. A solid table saw will provide you with accuracy you just cannot get with a circular saw and provide you with many other options, quicker, faster, and more accurate.

Speed squares are useless compared to a combination square in the context of building in a shop. If this was framing a house, I’d say speed square.

@Purdue_Pharma Жыл бұрын
A speed square in a woodworking shop? I know you’re trying to keep to a budget, but do you really want to skimp out on what’s arguably the most important tool in the shop? At least go for some cheaper brand of combination square and leave the speed squares for the framers.
@oliveryochim6 ай бұрын
That looks like a triangle to me not a square lol
@dsigetich3 ай бұрын
That’s woodworking, my friend. What it is called is not necessarily what it is. It’s called a speed square because it quickly (i.e., speed) assures the user that a joint is square.

@kwilliams2239 Жыл бұрын
I disagree about pipe clamps. I started out with them but they really aren't as cheap as one thinks. Threaded black iron pipe isn't cheap (galvanized doesn't really work). The clamps aren't all that much cheaper than others, after the pipe is added in. Their performance is poor, too. Notice how much the pipe bends as force is applied to the wood. This deformation is skewing the jaws outward, causing uneven pressure on the ends of the clamp. Iron pipe isn't nearly rigid enough. Look at the way parallel jaw clamps are made, in comparison. Yeah, I started out with pipe clamps but they didn't last long. ...and that was when black iron pipe was dirt cheap. Sure, it'll take a chunk more out of that $1000 but it'll be worth it.
@Cleanshave505 ай бұрын
The 1/2” ones are crap. But if you buy the non threaded pipe 3/4” pipe and a die/npt thread cutter to match you can get the medium or heavy duty pipe in 14’ lengths and cut to whatever length you want, the die pays itself off in the first 2 lengths of pipe & you have whatever length clamps you want. Good luck bending that stuff
@kwilliams22395 ай бұрын
