25 year porn abuser here. My porn use started when I was a teen and I recently decided it was time that I stop. I'm currently 65 days into my recovery and have had only had 1 relapse 8 days ago (yoga pants... Am I right?). The first 4 weeks were challenging for sure. I had a lot of withdrawal symptoms that were very consistent (headache, anxiety, lethargy, brain fog, and lack of motivation). In addition to the physical symptoms, I also experienced triggers during the times that I'd normally fap (morning, lunch, 3 pm, right before sleep). The next 4 weeks I experienced everything above - But less severe. I also felt like I was going through an internal grieving process where my brain would try to get me to fap to porn (deny I was addicted, get angry I couldn't fap to porn like everyone else, bargain about what I could and couldn't fap to, get depressed because porn was such a crutch for so long, accept my new life choice --> Then repeat again a week later or so). In my journey, the first 50 days were the worst and then everything turned the corner. Its now easier for me to deal with my urges, the lack of synthetic dopamine, and physical symptoms. I also feel better spiritually - I don't have guilt and shame from not being able to control my actions... I don't have the guilt and shame from hiding my actions (yes, I told my wife and went back to VA counseling)... I'm not afraid that my porn use could one day impact my life and other's opinions of me. I've recovered from pills (after injured twice in combat), nicotine addiction (after smoking for 14 years), alcohol abuse (after drinking my whole life), and now I'm on my journey to rid myself of porn abuse. If you're reading this - Be kind to yourself and know that whatever you're experiencing that is unpleasant - It will get better.

Dr. Trish Leigh, I sit here in the night with immense gratitude for your work and videos and how they've helped me. I just hit 2 months of no PMO last week. That is the greatest feat of my life. I've been doing this soul-life-draining thing since a young age. I've been trying to stop for the longest but never could. I don't know what it was that got me to stop. I just got tired of it all. Near the end of my old life of PMO'ing, I stumbled across your videos. Once I stopped, I continued to watch your videos. Now, as I hit 2 months, this is probably your best video yet. I've watched a good amount of your videos. I'm very happy but also still recovering from my old life. I still have the memories. I will start therapy soon through my job's benefits. Still, I have a lot to talk through and work through. After all this time, I thought that I lost me. After rising up, I thought that I lost me. (play this song by: Mk.gee - How many miles)

When you get rid of the addiction or trauma, it frees a part of your neural pathways that constantly activated when you acted out on your addiction. Those pathways can be repurposed then to represent a more sophisticated patterns. This IS neuroplasticity.

yeah after 90 days it's going to get a lot easier, but it also depends on how serious the addiction was. Cravings are going to last for years together but you will develop strength to fight it. If you don't have strict goals in life, it's easy to slip back to the habbit. I am porn free for straight 6 months now but cravings hasn't fully disappeared. What I found was when I was able to go the famously miraculous 90 days, was that certain things did feel better. Certain things felt easier. The biggest thing for me was noticing the change in my thought process and attitude in my interactions with women So I think indeed you must get to a point of healing in the brain But does it mean you're cured? Does it mean that's all it takes? Definitely not. I went about a year free of pornography after 20 years of heavy addiction to it I've now been struggling for about the last 5 months with relapses about every 1 to 3 weeks. The last one was a straight up binge for like a week. Tell here I am treating this like a restart for the journey, I'm trying to make sure I hold on to the things I was able to heal. But that's why I'm back watching a lot of these videos right now. Thanks again for everything you do on this channel Right now consuming more information has really helped along with guided meditation. I haven't been this motivated since I first started having that breakthrough success over a year ago now

Kinda unrelated, but Dr. Trish I now fully understand what you mean when you say what drives us to porn has less to do with sexual desire and more to do with mood control to deal with painful/stressful situations. I've had no significant urges to re-open the screen in the past month and a half, starting maybe a week ago I have have sudden urges and I realized it was because of a big exam I had to take (took it yesterday) that I'd been studying 4 and half months for. The anticipation was stressful and my mind began suggesting porn to ease the stress a week out from the exam. I decided to go for some heavy sprints and a deep tissue massage instead. I am so glad I noticed the pattern and watched your other vids on this because I would have probably given in like in the past by mistaking selective mood control for sexual desire.

So I want to say this here because I don’t really have anyone I can trust to say this to. I know why I struggle with porn. When I was 7 years old I saw my first porn video. Me and my cousin were playing video games and while searching for a new game disk we stumbled upon my aunt and uncles stache of pornography. Not knowing what it was we put it in the game system and were greeted to a very strange video. While the content of the video was rather vanilla, it is still nothing that a 7 year old child should see. Following watching the video, and still to this day I don’t know what compelled us to do this but, me and my cousin as well as my brother began to imitate the acts of the video on one another. This lasted for about 2 years. Everytime we’d see each other when we were left alone to play this is what we’d do. It wasn’t until we were on the brink of puberty where we began to feel disgusted with our actions. Obviously once going through puberty and now understanding what sex is, and now starting to get attractions to the girls around me at the time I knew that what I did wasn’t just wrong but it violated my sexual orientation. So now I had to not only had to deal with the trauma of being exposed to porn and sex at a young age but it was homosexual sex which is something I’m not at all interested in. From the time I was first saw porn to the second time I saw porn was nearly 5 years. I got a phone at age 12 and this is when I began to use porn habitually. I used food and video games as a coping mechanism before porn and still do today, but when porn entered back into my life it really took me over. Everyday I’d come home from school and instantly run to the bathroom to watch porn. Obviously I didn’t know I was coping at the time but I just saw it as I have an urge I must act upon it. In 2020 during the pandemic I turned 18 and became a Christian. The Christian faith is adamantly opposed to all sexual immorality, porn being in that category. So I’ve prayed and prayed to God for the urges to be taken from me but to absolutely no avail. It’s been 15 years since I first saw porn and did what I did, it’s been nearly 10 years of regularly watching porn. I tell this all to you because I don’t know how to move past it. I don’t want to watch pornography anymore and I want to focus on the present and future, not be defined by my past but I just don’t know what exactly I’m supposed to do to get over it. I’m hoping in a way just me sharing this will help but I don’t know.

I'm wondering if availability is a strong component of addictions. When life gets uncomfortable, or intolerable, the nearest, most available mental device, becomes the automatic go-to. Be it masturbation, porn, food, drugs, work...once found, the map is laid, the expectation of pleasure is assured and the addiction begins. I would put masturbation, porn and drugs at the top of the totem pole.

This type of habit or addiction you call is minor in society, problem is only associated with the internet screen (which can be avoided by interacting) so major social problems are gambling, drugs and Alcohol which is also has an encouraging damaging and criminal element which the government endorses through clubs, venues, campaigns and taxes. Going online and connecting to the internet is your own free will, just like you would drink and drive both have consequence and basically it comes down common sense and been brought up with dignity and essential moral behaviour.

This problem is not minor in society… It is major. It just flies under the radar so it seems harmless. But it is impacting society in so many ways that most people don’t understand.

@@DrTrishLeigh This also comes down to Government legislation and Control of the internet. Explicit material should impose policy', control and legislation's. Such as filtering and form of adjudicating what goes in and out of the country. This is possible on higher grounds and the technology is their to combat it. Humans are not educated enough to know what concerns or damages them psychologically and in that sense you are doing a good job at intervening those people with these habitual problems. If a person dose not have any moral or cultural sense they will obviously head down this slippery slope. once you loose you self value and pride you can be expected a worse outcome and that will lead to addiction in most cases.

@@EmperorKonstantine01 I don’t know if they should government regulate it They put rules and regulations on drugs and alcohol but it doesn’t seem to be any good except the law enforcers get richer off of fines. I do think Dr Leigh doctrine’s need to be taught in school along with sex education. If people are going to explore they must know the consequences and the remedy for brain reboot

@@wesleymcmurrin7704 You Can ask your IT, VPN or internet company to put filters on your data download and that way you can opt for self exlusuion. But eventually their are plans for Government to blacklist sites. Thi s all comes doen to common sense, if you have a weak vulnerable mind or temptation becasue you are bored or stressed their are other alternatives or options for an individual to stop using explicit sites fro gratification. I did hear Dr.trish say a lot of people want to puch the easy button and not do anythiong else, porn addiction also comes down to Laziness, too much time on their hands and not having enough self discipline.

Censorship is slavery! Guidelines are censorship. Life ended many years ago, and pornography had nothing to do with it.

You’re in denial noble wolf. I blocked it on my devices, and I go out and buy tablets so I can watch porn. Then I throw them away or return them to the store. All while neglecting my social life and relationships. I believe for some people porn might be harmless. Just like cocaine there are people who won’t become addicted to it, but there is a high potential for problems to come from it
