The largest gong measures 5.15 m (16.8 ft) in diameter. It was made by Shanxi Baodi Real Estate Development CO. @fibiger124 ай бұрын
@@DrMackSplackem what thicknes is b20?
@DrMackSplackem3 ай бұрын
@@fibiger12 Any thickness you like. I don;t know how thick these would be, likely under 1/8 of an inch. B20 is just classic "bell bronze" alloy mixture, specifically, 4 parts copper and 1 part tin mixed together and cast (the "20" is the tin percentage, B8 means 8% tin and 92% copper). Some Paiste cymbals like 2002s are made of B8. Their Signature line is b15. You can get an idea of how much tin is in a cymbal by how yellow the cymbal is when finished. B20 is yellowish-golden, but B8 looks more like pure copper.

I was there and got to play it briefly, it was most awesome! I asked the guy the cost and he shook his head, saying it was a one-off that was custom made for TV show that got canceled before they ever used it or something. I'm assuming it's one of those deals that if you ask "how much?" you obviously can't afford it! 😅 Their largest production model is 80" in diameter and those have a list price of $32,600 and the street price is almost $28,000! I'd guess if you had $50,000 to $100,000 cash burning a hole in your pocket, you and Paiste could come to some sort of arrangement? ;-)

Generally they do but there are some differences depending on when they were made and who the gong-smith was at the time.
@riproar115 жыл бұрын
Their gongs are all handmade by experienced craftsmen without machined hammering, so each would be a one-of-a-kind, but have comparable sounds for the design type. The orchestra I was a percussionist in had a 50" Paiste gong with the large dot in the center. Everyone remembers you when you're the guy who plays the gong or the tympani. :)
