Hi Luke even though I already knew your Japanese hospital story from the episode recorded at the British Council in Paris, I totally appreciated this episode. The written story is like a photograph, but unlike photos and videos, the angle of vision is inside us, and it’s a precious document of our personal history. I think that reading your diaries has added more realism to the story, showing directly the impact of those distant events on the younger you. Hi Luke and thank you very much for reading your diary. Life can be cruel and so constructive at the same time. It was a rude experience to live in your youth and so far away from your relatives. I can understand your anguish by misunderstanding your illness. Despite the seriousness of the situation you make me laugh several times! Several years ago I lived some stressful days arriving to London with my daughter. In the Eurostar I discovered she had the measles (hot temperature, itching spots everywhere, sore throat, ...). Hello Luke, Right at the beginning of your story I thought to myself, it could only be the Ebstein Bar virus. It reminded me of when the doctor's office called and asked if I could drive my 19 year old son to the hospital. He was not allowed to carry his suitcase himself due to a possible ruptured spleen. A week earlier, a young patient with similar symptoms had died after lifting a crate of beer. Today my son is 35 years old and has a small family like you. Luckily he didn't carry his suitcase himself.🤗😅 But it was a worrying time. I imagine being in a foreign country is really scary. Thanks for sharing. Hello! I'm so sorry that you had to suffer so much, both physically and mentally. I know how scary and terrible panic attacks can be, as I also experienced them during the period, when my father passed away. I originally come from Japan, and I was visiting Nova to learn German before coming to Berlin, but I didn't know that teachers were working in such inhumane conditions. As far as I know, the school still exists, and it's as ubiquitous as you mentioned. Thank you so much for your effort to provide us great materials to learn English, anyway!

Hi Luke, kind of sad story, well with happy ending. I had a similar story but this time in London, an unfriendly GP, my level of English, the fact that I told the doctor that I smoke a bit, the doctor's doubts to give me antibiotics that I knew that I needed and so on made me feel miserable, as youbwere in Japan I guess, but in my case jus a week after my landing in UK. So your story made me recall all these facts.

Hello, Luke. It must have been horrible to be ill in a foreign country , especially without speaking or even understanding their language. I guess you didn't have time to take an electronic translator with you. Or your phone to translate into Japanese or the other way around. Fortunately, you survived. Although I like writing, I've never written a diary. When I was 16, my closest friend and I started writing letters to each other in English even though we lived in the same city. At 18 we wrote to pen friends abroad. Cheers.🎉
