Well done Raff, as soon as I saw that board, I thought this should be interesting 😁 Let's hope you got it. Bob Oh!, Happy new year mate.

I reviewed the footage and compared the pictures (before and after) there's a good chance it is aligned.

Well done video and job how you explained, maybe a thin white or yellow sharpie vould help with the outline for future jobs, the bleck one gives less contrast. 3:20 all due respect sir, its an AM5 socket and DDR5 memory, what you ment to say is a Budget mbo not an 'older design' 17:48 watch the socket just fall in is so satisfying

Very nice work, I just replaced some iMac sockets recently. You should try before removing the old socket to scratch the edges of the socket. To only make a little search line on the solder mark but not too deep to expose copper. If copper is exposed it’s not a big deal anyway but best not to. This makes it so much easier to align

yeah, black marker is hard to read on a dark board. I'll see what I can figure out

@@blackhorserepairs Not for me sicne the imac boards are black, the market is slightly lighter so it helps a little

I do 2 things in those cases (different device tho): 1. I use grinding pen with super-fine diamond drill and make outline with dots into the PCB coating every half cm. This is to be sure-sure I will have something to go from 2. I have a white pen that takes ages to cure, but it survives flux and IPA and temperature *most* of the times. If it does not, I still have the dots from point 1.

yeah, I'll look into that, thank you so much!

One thing I wanted to tell you is that seeing the problems you've had with the reballing station, I've been reviewing videos from other users, and in all of them I see that the four arms that hold the motherboard are placed the wrong way around from how you have them, which makes the plate closer to the bottom heater, that way I suppose the heat reaches better and allows it to be easier for the solder to melt. Without having much idea it seems that all the problems you've been having seem to come from the bottom. I hope you understand well what I want to explain, I had to use the translator since English is not my main language.
@blackhorserepairs25 күн бұрын
yes, there are advantages to flipping the holder arms. The increased distance to the bottom heater doesn't seem to have much impact on maximum temperature since the thermocouple is placed right on the board. Thank you so much!

Lol brother you'll find alot of motherboards without an out line I just use fine gel marker
@blackhorserepairs27 күн бұрын
I guess I have to figure out how to reliably outline it then :) Thank you!

@blackhorserepairs one method I use is to re fit the metal bracket surrounding the socket , it gives n excellent alignment on lotes socket
@blackhorserepairs26 күн бұрын
@@waynetaylor2784 interesting, I was actually thinking about that when reinstalling the bracket but since I do it in one cycle, I can't easily reinstall it when the board is on the machine and heated to 160C

@blackhorserepairs yeah I had a totally busted parts only am5 board so I took whole retention bracket off , pulled the top part off just leaving what butts up to socket, n I don't put on back plate just screw onto board with nut n washers, find heat is still uniform on bga rework station and solder melted nicely, all lotes brackets same on all am5 boards regardless of brand so perfect alignment

Please could the owner of this board comment if it worked on this video, we all would like to know
@blackhorserepairs27 күн бұрын
I will mention that for sure

So.... you're not going to test to see if it worked?? What a waste of a video.
