I rarely missed one of these games on TV back in the day. Such nostalgia. So many legends on the ice for both teams. Hockey in 2023 is just not the same. This was the transition team before Bowman started the great purge. Chiasson out, Burr out, Cheveldae out, Coffey out, and so on. The Wings dynasty team was starting to be assembled around Fedorov, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Konstantinov and a new core of bashers such as Drake, McCarty, Maltby and Draper. It was a great time to be a Wings fan and the best was yet to come.

Am I crazy or wasn't mike gartner one of the last guys allowed to play without a helmet. Edit: I guess I'm thinking of Craig MacTavish. Not sure why they were conflated.
