The more complex the scene, the more instructions and data need to be stored in the processor cache, and at some point there are so many of them that constant cache-misses occurs even on x3D. And from this point on, the presence of a 3D cache simply does not matter, but the speed of the memory and it's latencies do. That's when 9700x come close to 9800x3D or even a tiny bit faster on 1%/0.1% lows. And that's when Intel i9 24 core 300W monster with fast 'n tuned memory will outpace any x3D chip for good, delivering highly smooth gameplay. ... Most likely this is due to the unoptimized game code, but this is still an alpha, and patches are released quite often. Therefore, when it comes to a more or less open beta or 1.0 (with some optimiztions) x3D processors will be the fastest, as in most games right now. I'm at crossroads right now, as many others on upgrading/building new PC. So it would be nice to see a benchmark againts the i9 14th/13th and the new Arrow Laker chips and prove some of this theory :D

Why would you want a subpar product?
@Sylar0n2 ай бұрын
@@12Music72 Sub par? AMD released the 9000 series in a terrible state and they needed 2 months to fix it with microcode updates. Intel is not different. The 9800x3D is a fantastic chip if we can believe the tests (which i honestly dont, who the FK plays in 1080p on a 600 EUR CPU?), itll perform well. However, as this review suggests, if the data doesnt fit into that 3D cache, the game can become choppy as hell. This correlates with another reviewer who was testing this specifically and a previous gen Intel was less choppy. Intel works with much faster RAM and also has much faster CPU cache. When they update the microcode for the Arrow Lake CPUs, i dont have a reason to believe that they wont be competitive. And even if they dont match the 9800x3D in FPS but the gameplay is less choppy, ill gladly take the lower FPS but smoother performance.
@Sylar0n2 ай бұрын
@@gamedaytoday1 I am building rigs for friends and family, i want to be fully informed before i suggest a pick. Most of the reviews are completely bogus because they dont take into account the RAM speed and type. Nearly every Arrow Lake test ive seen were using sub par memory, and when Jayz did his ARL test with 8400 CUDIMM RAM, the performance spiked 30% upwards and the 285k was absolutely on par with the 7800x3D in gaming and murdered nearly everything on the market in production workloads. And that means the 265k is similar, and that was before Intel released any microcode update they promised for this month. 1. Higher FCLK is not always better performance. While MCLK:UCLK may be 1:1 and FCLK asynchronous you gain a little latency benefit by going 2:3:3 (FCLK:MCLK:UCLK). So for 6400 an FCLK of 2133 is ideal in most cases. If you go for 6000 or 6200 a FCLK of 2200 can be beneficial. Reason being that the benefit of way higher FCLK compared to the latency penalty of leaving 2:3:3 is usually bigger. Thereforce if you can go 100+ more FCLK you usually should do it. But to go from 2133 to 2200 is only 66 more FCLK and by that losing 2:3:3. It can be better but certainly not always. This especially holds true when you go into Gear 2. Then you can synchronize FCLK with UCLK and leaving that 1:1 synchronization by having more FCLK is a HUGE penatly in latency. 2. What is also missing is a DDR5-8000 comparison. 3. A latency of 65.4 in AIDA seems kinda high. Espcially on 3D chips where AIDA dips into the 3D Cache you should have less than 57ns. MSI released a latency killer feature in their newest BIOS that reduces AIDA by around 10ns. Seems like the latest AGESA increased latency heavily for no reason and that MSI feature just restored what was lost before.

Currently the prices in my country (and Europe at all) made me get the 9700x and ofc wanted to have some performance to achieve by myself with OC/Tunning. 9700x seems to have the worst default settngs/perf (due to TDP, PPT etc.) - so biggest potential to tune it up and have fun (AIO ArcticFreezer 360 + ASR Steel Legend VRMs + A-die Hynix 6000 CL30, should let me have fun as starter lol). - 9700x (674 bgn/ 358$) - 7600x3d (720 bgn/ 383$) (+7% $) - 9900x (958 bgn/ 509$) (+42% $) - 7800x3d (1200 bgn/ 639$) (+78% $) - 9950x (1380 bgn/ 734$) (+105% $) - 9800x3d (1549 bgn/ 825$) (+130% $) PS: I2HARD got some good results also at 7600 CL34 2:1 - seems 9000 series get better than 7000 series with high memory frequences and lower the impact of lacking 3D V-cache (as they reach out more often to memory than X3D and memory is a game changer for them). We will see..Love it already!

I dont get why oh why the tests always gets done at 1920x1080, who still run this as their daily settings??? I run at 4k on my 32” Samsung monitor, I really cannot understand why all testers still use this resolution, can you advise on this please?
@nuzziefutz24542 ай бұрын
Because anything beyond 1080p is more likely to be GPU bound.
@gamedaytoday12 ай бұрын
When you do a CPU review, you don't want to be bottlenecked by the GPU. 1920x1080 guarantees that the 4090 is not Bottlenecking the CPU results.
@TonyD_zaАй бұрын
Because at 4K you would see no difference and therefore not be motivated to buy an expensive CPU :P
@gamedaytoday1Ай бұрын
@@TonyD_za Dips to 30FPS is still noticeable in 4k. Also with the upcoming 5090 you will be CPU bound 100% at the time. So there is motivation to pair with a CPU that does not bottleneck you

which bios u using? the latest makes a difference im not buying it these results dont make sense i know SC loves fast memort and volumes with more cores but above all..SC is not yet optimized it will only happen after 4.2 onwards by the time the singleplayer actually comes out there will be a 4.5 as the roadmap goes

its crazy.. I dont even know if I wanna upgrade from an "old 5950X" (7900XTX) - I tryed going to space and find the most emty void to see how much fps I could get (5120x1440p) and in the mittle of nowhere, I managed to top out at 412 fps. But thats not how the game performs in most areas!.. so Iam most likely just going to wait for a new GPU first..

I have not understood all the negative reviews about the 9700X. I have a 9700x paired with a MSI X870 Tomahawk and Kingston Fury Renegade Beast DDR5 6400mhz CL30 and it outperforms my 7800X3D system equipped with an Asrock B650E Taichi Lite and G skill Neo 5 Expo DDR5 6000mhz CL30. In gaming it trades blows with the 7800X3D and outright outperforms the 7800X3D in all other tasks. With a few tweaks, I believe it is the better CPU. I have not compared it to the 9800X3D.
@gamedaytoday12 ай бұрын
Jup the 9700X is so under rated, and flys with tuned RAM. I would even say the 9700X is better than the 7800X3D at least it is in Star Citizen by a large margin, and its cheaper too.
@marcusmartin7432 ай бұрын
@@gamedaytoday1 I recently received the 9800X3D and the Asrock X870E Nova, I look forward to comparing it to the 9700X system. Will be using Gskill 6400mhz CL30 Expo memory with it.

Some of this doesn't make a ton of sense to me. You're saying Area 18 is a more demanding than Orison, but the results don't show that. They show that Orison has lower highs and lower lows. You spend a lot of the video talking about how the x3d chips benefit from areas that aren't CPU demanding, but in the most demanding areas (i.e. the areas with .1% lows in the 20-30 fps range) it is faster. I have a 7700x, zero dog in this fight, but the commentary seems incongruous with the results at several points. A 3 fps lead when you're in the 20-30 fps range is 10%+. That's just... faster. Not fast enough to be *good*, but quantifiably faster.
@Pabula2 ай бұрын
If Star Citizen is such memory dependent, why not test AMD with higher than 6400, new boards are allowing 8000+ , given that it will not be 1:1, but maybe Star Citizen being so memory speed dependent, could offset the 1:1 recommendation.
@gamedaytoday12 ай бұрын
Have you heard about the good old Infinity Fabric?
@JAnx01Ай бұрын
I've been telling people that as long as you have a fast memory, X3D chips are almost redundant. They add average fps in games and scenarios where you'd be achieving high framerate anyway and although higher average framerate may look good on paper, you don't feel it. I'd appreciate, if you could incorporate the i7-13700K, maybe with E-cores disabled, in your future test. I've seen people getting very good results with it recently, also by memory tuning.
@h1tzzYTАй бұрын
Yep, the way i see it, vcache cpu is for normies who dont tune ram (which is perfectly fine) and vanilla parts for those who do, tuned 9950x without SMT would probably give a good fight in this benchmark suite

Has anyone independently verified these results? I find it very hard to believe RAM "tuning" would have such a big impact. SC is most definitely not RAM bound, but CPU bound and cache bound. And with the amount of bs people post for views today, I'm highly skeptical of these results...

What do you think Cache is?
@jwonyoutube2 ай бұрын
I felt second hand embarrassment reading this
@squirrel66872 ай бұрын
Star Citizen's engine architecture relies heavily on large data streaming, exceeding the on-chip cache size. This forces frequent access to system RAM, making memory bandwidth the primary bottleneck rather than the CPU's cache advantage.
