The last two stroke I owned a couple years ago was a 98 KX250. It was by far the most powerful 250 I've ever owned. And as far as I understand correctly it was also the most powerful KX250 they ever made. Totally wish I never got rid of that one.
@LastCall534

Last KX I owned was an 07 and last year of the Kx250 two stroke. Nick named the stink bug for the way the rear fender looked and a bit finicky handling. Pro Circuit made a bottom link that helped with the geometry. Mine was a factory incentive bike given to James Stewart, stock, never raced. I found it in shambles at a local bike shop, never touched the engine, just restored mostly everything else. I'm not pro or even intermediate, but what a machine. Raced a couple of local seasonal races and it would pulled KTM 450's on the starts. The one bike I wish I'd have kept. 🙄

They had actual power bands unlike Honda that didn’t so it was a little stronger so was the KX500 to! My cousin has both! I myself have street bikes a 2016 GSX-S1000 and 2015 CBR300R! But I grew up on dirt bikes owned a bunch myself!! I normally road a yamaha WR but road them all at one point. KX500 is my favorite you can throw 40’ rooster tails with the power that bike has! You don’t dare bring that power in on concrete In a low gear you will be on your ass sliding! 😂

Phwoar! Loverly crisp sound! - You dig up some great bikes Max. I ride with a Portuguese regional Champ weekly- he uses an '03 Yammie Yz25o- but he is no further ahead of my '89 Cr250 at the end of a 60km loop we do every Sunday to the local track- goes to show how we'll that gen of bikes was built- it's still not blown up yet. Still can't get this Gopro to upload the vid tho!- you have just made me wanna try a bit harder. Thanks for sharing this vid Max👍👍👍always mate.

Stephen everts had a pretty much the same bike when he was with rwj racing in the uk. Lots of trick bits, map button for starts, and as said in this vid that interrupted the ignition as the gears were changed while flat out. Also the internal gears were polished and changed, as you said pure factory stuff, great vid max and I’d love to ride that bike 😎👌

And this dude rolled up with a massive American motorhome,, and a white Honda Mugan water cooled 125 , considering all 125’s at the time were air cooled,,, talk about trick a good year before and of the big 4 came out water cooled,,, it had a crowd around it all day,,, my point is I think Honda was back then always ahead the game,,, maybe try find 1 those and test it!!! Dream of a bike. On the 80’s and 90’s CR250’s there is a trick to starting them from cold. Choke on, 2nd gear selected, wide open throttle and rock it back a forwards 3 or 4 times. Then take it out of gear and will start on 2nd or 3rd kick. Otherwise you’ll be there all day kicking it over.

@@999lazer I saw Paul Cooper riding a similar bike in Johnstown in Ireland, but his was the HRC kitted bike with Öhlins shock and Marzocchi 50mm forks, he had it pinned. David Coates was in second place in one of the motos on a fairly stock YZ250, so in that era, even though the top riders had kitted or semi factory bikes, talented locals could stay with the factory bikes.

“Mass Honda power” as McGrath said in a post race interview after passing Jeff Emig on the last lap of the final moto of the 1996 Gatorback 125/250 Nationals from Gainesville, FL! I was a “Fro” fan, but hats off to MC for that masterful pass that gave him the overall for the day. I had been to this very National the year before and will never forget seeing the intensity in “Showtime’s” eyes as he railed a left handed berm before a huge uphill double.
