I have mixed feelings about companies restricting (lawful) products to (only their preferred) sub-groups for private internal reasons. I'll avoid sensitive discussion -- since this is a sponsored video -- but will state I have older mentors who had to live through that. I look forward to seeing more products that are more accessible, well performant, and novel engineering for self-protection! Cheers!

dude, i just stumbled upon this video. and in all honesty ive not perused the entire library of vids, however if they are even close to this quality and info packed, you have a sub for life. there is all info and no uneeded b.s. and no 5 minute intro, i despise intros. not only have you earned a sub (binge watch will begin as soon as this comment is posted) but i am currently also perusing the g9 defense website, and loving what im seeing. i, in all honesty was expecting about 3 dollars per round, like the unattainable r.i.p. rounds. but pleased to see that this line is not at all overpriced and comparable to other self defense ammo. well done on both, you as a creator(information creator, not "content" creator lol) as well as g9 defense. im quite pleased and thankful to have stumbled upon this pile of goodness. thank you.

Thanks for doing this test. That deformation of the G9 on windshield is the deal breaker for me. I figured it would have issues retaining the flutes when hitting metal/ windshields. Either of the JHPs will do better against windshield even without expanding. HST seems to still be on top.

One thing you should consider is these types of rounds heavily rely on velocity to be effective and the 3.1 inch barrel might not be moving them quick enough to be as effective as some hollowpoints. I'm carrying HST in my 365xl and g9 in a fullsize .40 for winter carry. When I can justify spending the money to test both of them I'll compare underwood and G9 out of a short barrel and fullsize on a slab of meat but hopefully somebody will do that sooner than I'll be able too haha.
@richardefriend

@@tylerlewis6204 I use the 90 gr. +P XD's, and with their barrier blind design, all the testing I've seen shows definitively that they provide all the power needed from a 3.1" barrel to be fully effective, more so than a JHP would be capable of doing (even the Sig V-Crown JHP specifically designed for the P365). You're correct that short barrels will deliver less performance, and that will almost always mean that JHPs won't expand much and are often a waste--but the XD's (or for my .380, the XP's) will deliver as promised. Being barrier blind is just an extra benefit.

Your shot placement was perfection. The groups were insanely good too. I was wondering if you could share the distance at which you zero your 9mm carry pistols? I learned a ton about the G9 ammo here and it's impressive stuff to say the very least. Have a great rest of the week brother. PS, that Caldwell rest is the beezneez, I gotta grab one. Is the external hollowpoint projectile a gimmick? Is the damage in gel just something that happens in gel and is used to sell to people who dont know any better? I didnt think human tissue cavitated and ripped at such low velocities.
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
I think some of that data will need time to be collected. These lighter loadings are approaching that "rifle like" wounding capability in terms of velocity, but what happens in the gel doesn't necessarily translate to real tissue.

for many years people have been very resistant. The meat tests show that fluted rounds do achieve 1.5-2x more expansion than the best hollow points. The only disadvantage is that fluted rounds are very very lightweight while hollow points are extremely heavy bullets. The only good lightweight traditional 115gr hollowpoint so far has been the tac xpd and the corbon dpx +p variants. Fluted ammo is 68-90 grains in weight and so a full mag is half the weight of a heavy hollow point mag.

I know you like to handload some of your own, so... getcha some *Vihtavuori 3N38 and 124gr XTPs.* I had to get a Lone Wolf (Alpha) barrel to support longer seating depths, but with that powder, I'm pushing 124 grainers right at 1450fps out of a 5" barrel. The best part is - believe it or not - it's not overpressure. There's something magical about that powder. You can literally cram as much of it into a case as possible and not see so much as a hint of pressure signs on brass. If you'd like, I'd be happy to send ya some to try out. I'd be very curious to see what that 16" barrel would get out of them.

To everyone saying they can kick rocks because they dont sell the exact same bullets to non Le - The "civilian" round has far superior wounding and penetration then traditional hollow points. Far less deviation through glass, with great barrier penetration results. The only thing the "law enforcement" version does that the civilian version doesn't is penetrate level 3a vest that cops wear. So you can pout and feel like you're being treated inferior, or you can buy the ammunition that will protect you and your family better. I've seen the civilian 9mm / 45/ and 10mm used in live flesh (hogs), and they create wounds about double the size hst create and penetrate further. I don't need to penetrate level 3a vest, so it's definitely good enough for me, and I appreciate the innovation. My 12 gauge also doesn't penetrate level 3a vest, but I'm still grabbing my 590a1 in a home invasion, and I'm pretty sure I'll be alright. Vest or not

So you telling me this is what Le is using right now? There is all types of ammo that come in a "duty"box such as gold dots, such as Federal Hydra shock duty version. There is a All copper projectile made by fort Scott munitions it is exceptional and defeating any type of barrier and it's called t u i or tumble upon impact, they look like rifle bullets. They leave a mean wound channel that surpasses a hollow point because the tumbling makes it two more damage
@BuffRANGE

The effectiveness of a tumbling bullet at pistol velocities is still highly debated. However if you need better barrier penetration especially against soft armor, These copper solids reign supreme over JHP.

hydra shock is 90s ammo. HST is what they use which has double the expansion of trashy hydrashok. However it's gold dot that has the biggest market share on police departments because it takes about 30 years for police to re-evaluate ammo and guns

They use HPs to maximize the amount of permanent wounding they can inflict with pistol bullets while reducing the risk of overpenetration by using FMJ's. FMJ 9mm would penetrate beyond 32" of gel, and it's wounding would be limited. This copper bullet is trying to to provide the better barrier penetration aspects of the FMJ, while trying to get better wounding ballistics like the JHP does.

Over penetration for self-defense ammo. And you generally get a little bit more penetration in actual tissue than you do in gel, but it's hard to tell because I've never been attacked by a bowl of jello nor do I expect to be. I certainly do not consult with the FBI to determine what is best for personal defense. Because they don't do personal defense they do controlled defense drills where are they usually have somebody else if not two or three other officers with them to help them defend themselves. I do not pick the cheapest ammo to shoot, nor do I pick the ammo that I can shoot the next round the fastest because I want each and every round to do just as much damage as it possibly can out of a pistol. Not that I don't care for 9 mm because I do have a Browning high power which is literally the most accurate 9mm pistol I have ever seen. It gets enough velocity to make the 9 mm and adequate self-defense cartridge, but I still prefer 40 Smith 357 Sig and 357 Magnum and 45 ACP all are better cartridges than 9 mm. And gimmicky rounds are exactly that, gimmicky. Interesting that it cuts through 3A body armor, which would tend to make me wonder whether or not anybody should be carrying it. Especially given the piss poor terminal performance that it exhibits. Also answers why I use a titanium chest plate with my body armor.
