Licensed nail tech here! I just want to say that it's not just gel nail products that you become allergic to. @@MissIceIceTea It's great that Susie even mentioned that you should not do it to begin with. Getting into the specifics like getting allergies from gel and anything that even contains the ingredient outside of the nail industry shouldn't be on her. Not every nail salon will give you a whole explanation of why you should not do it. It's just as bad that social media from other companies are now advertising gel nail products that are "safe" on skin without a backed up study. Being disappointed just because she didn't explain more in detail on the study of it is not what you should take from this video.

I can attest to developing allergies!! I still watch your videos, Suzie b/c I love them, but I can't do my nails anymore. Not acrylic, not builder gel, and not even gel nail polish b/c of one time I was in a hurry and didnt cure it well. PSA: My finger tips get red, irritated, and itchy. After a few days my skin starts to peel and split open like papercuts. Then my nails start to pull back off their beds. It's absolutely awful. It took about 3 months to get normal again. And trust me, it IS indeed a total bummer not being able to have pretty long nails any more. Heed the warning, folks!

@joliax1646 ugh I am so sorry. I've tried taking it very slow and have been methodical with my application, but nothing has worked. I've only tried it on my thumb to see if a reaction happens, and it has every time. 😢 Builder gel is the worst reaction, it's almost immediate. Acrylic took about a day to hit me. I was so excited the next day that I still didn't have a reaction, I thought it was gone, but nope: that night the itching started. Just last week after about 3 months or so of not trying, I tried sparkle gel nail polish . My thumb went a whole WEEK with no reaction. I was over the moon, so decided to do my whole hand, and cured each finger for 3- 60 second intervals. Luickly I only did one hand, because the next morning the itching started and even my thumb which had no reaction started peeling at the finger tip. Needless to say I felt defeated. As far as regular nail polish, that's my only go-to now. I hope you have better luck!!❤

this is popular in brazil but not because it's "lazy" or "quick" like some people are saying, but because brazilians hate the small gap left between the cuticle and the nail when you apply polish any other way. also, brazilians don't use gel polish when doing it, only normal polish because gel is not popular in brazil (people get their nails done once a week instead of once a month). nail techs also pay a lot of attention to the cuticles and most national nail polishes are hypoallergenic to begin with, so i understand that this technique isn't for everyone but tbh i don't agree people should bash on it or call it lazy

Sometimes I worry about my skin!!! Story time that no one asked for. I do my own nails and have applied press on nails for years, but recently I wanted to create my own styles. I have a friend who bought a Beetles gel kit a few years ago that I LOVED. I finally bought one in April without doing a ton of research. After I got it, I heard about the HEMA allergies. I started to get really paranoid. For context, I’ve had thin nails my whole life, but from applying press-ons since high school, they have stayed thin and bendy. Nail techs at salons also over file when I visit (which is rare), but I digress. I bought the Beetles kit, and it was great, but in the beginning I experienced heat spikes and an itching/stinging sensation on my nail beds. I wasn’t experiencing the swelling, cracking, and blistering like some people, and I’ve had okay experiences the past few times. The last two times, I have used clear, full coverage tips with pink nail glue, and carefully used a detail brush to paint around the edge of the tip and the rest of the nail. Is this still wise? Typically any tiny mistakes I try to wipe away with a brush and acetone. Is that okay? For more context, I have since learned not to mess with my cuticles so much-when I had itchiness and a little pain, I had cuts on my cuticles (and a little bit of a messier application. I push the limit with how close I scoot my brush to my cuticle).

I believe this is a popular technique in Brazil, especially with regular nail polish. They pay NO ATTENTION to the cuticle or side folds and basically DELIBERATELY over polish, and then they follow up with a cotton wrapped orangwood stick to clean everything up. Personally, i think it is a very 'lazy' way to polish nails, and is also very wasteful. I'd rather take a little longer and apply regular and gel polish with care, and not have all that clean-up.

@lumenlyana4 ай бұрын
@@miri_miri_chan it's not lazy or meant to be faster than the other technique. the difference is that when applying "carefully" you end up with a small empty space around the nails and brazilians don't like that because it looks unfinished. just different perspectives i guess
@NailDesignsByDenise4 ай бұрын
@@lumenlyana you can get very close to the cuticle without touching it, which is better in the long term because you will avoid contact dermatitis when using gel polish. Acetone is also very harsh and dries the skin out. @juliadandy60194 ай бұрын
@lumenlyana yes, wish people commenting (and Suzie) would be more open to the cultural differences instead of dismissing it as lazy or sloppy. That is the professional standard here in Brazil (for regular, no gel, polish), someone doing it the """""right""""" way would have zero clients here and be considered an awful manicurist. Really sad with this video instead of focusing the harm this can do when it is gel polish is just generalizing and perpetuating prejudices against Brazilian manicurists, who are amazing artists and incredibly hard workers.

It appears to be extremely common in Brazil, for example, to just slather the polish on the finger all around the nail and clean it up at the end. And I’m not sure if you’re saying that your fake nails if you have them are breaking or just your natural nails are breaking. So if you’re just natural nails are breaking and you are allowed to wear product I would suggest acrylic because they are stronger. But if you’re not allowed to wear product, suggest maybe gel polish. But that does not add strength.

Cause its normal in Brazil to do like that, but it's not done with gel polish. Just the regular one that “air dries”, old-style nail polish. @NailCareerEducation4 ай бұрын
It shouldn’t be done in anyway shape or form with any product - mostly because of the possible contact dermatitis issue. It may never happen, but you increase the risk with this method. And for another reason, I don’t like it is because skin is rather dry when you’re working on nails and the skin will absorb and all that moisture from the product and it’s very hard to get out of the skin. It can stay in the skin. And of course, that is only with the darker colours if you’re doing this method with lighter colors, you won’t see that so much

All 10 of my fingertips were insanely itchy, broke out in blisters, then dried out and left my finger tips with cuts all over from the dry skin. Now if i do go to a salon i specify very clearly that i cannot use gel polish/top coat. And every time they assure me its no problem, then the nail tech uses gel at the end anyway. When i protest they say "its not on your skin, its okay!" I give up and let them do whatever so we can finish up and leave and a day later my fingers start itching again. Im now trying the semi-cured gel strips and so far ive had no reaction to them a few days later. 🤞

Allergies to nail products is a huge problem, so this is an important video. Allergies can also develop if the wrong lamp is used to cure gel. Gel is hard at 50% cured, but needs to be at least 90% cured. The ingredients in gel and acrylic are allergenic until properly cured. The only way to make sure is using the lamp that the brand manufacturer says. If a person develops an allergy to acrylates, which are in gel and acrylics, the person will have problems with dentistry and orthopedics. Both use acrylates.

hi so just so everyone is aware, in brasil everyone does this. we just prefer how it looks and all professionals here are trained to use this technique and if you use the non-brasilian technique on a client they'll most probably hate it. and it's not dangerous for us because we only use brasilian brands that have all their products designed to be used this way so there's no risk of skin issues, and since gel polish is not popular here we only do this with regular polish

Interesting - well I do know nail polish is very safe and extremely well tested as it’s been around VERY long time - how does it NOT stain dry skin? Do you moisturize BEFORE the nail polish application ?

As a nail tech for over 30 years, I'm not so worried about allergy, you get an allergic reaction to anything, it's the laziness of the "technique" and the time it takes to clean it all off.
@LinCoyote16 күн бұрын
I see people use this technique and I'm always confused because it takes more time to clean up the skin
@LuluNailDesigns3 ай бұрын
I got into a heated argument in an IG comment section about this technique. It’s booming in Brazil they believe the nail products they have won’t ever cause allergic reactions.
@juliadandy60194 ай бұрын
That is actually super commom in Brazil with regular polish (not gel). It does look a lot more sleek since it gets really close to the "edges". A good professional wont make that huge of a mess and the cleanup is usually done with a stick to be cleaner.

A professional doesn’t do this A ‘professional’ learns the correct technique
@juliadandy60194 ай бұрын
@NailCareerEducation that is the professional standard here and the technique any manicurist would learn in a course or training (again, for regularbpolish, NOT gel). Understand if that's not it for nail techs in US/CA, but hope you can understand there are different "professional" standards and practices in other parts of the world that are not "wrong" or "bad" just because they are different from your standard.

That is the way Brazilian do it their nails. We don’t like the gap between the nail and the cuticle.

I am sorry. I do think those people who are presenting themselves as "professionals" who are promoting this SHOULD be called out. The information is so widely available out there, that even a hobbiest knows this is a bad/ dangerous idea.

@wendymoyer782 this is the way it is professionally done in Brazil with regular polish. For gel it def should not be done due to allergies.

@@juliadandy6019the videos I have seen are NOT making it clear that this is intended for regular polish only, and in fact, I have only seen one where it even LOOKED like it was done with regular polish.

As a Brazilian, I hate the large gap between nail polish and cuticle. It may look lazy for some people but I do think final results are better. Also it is a cultural thing and it’s how things are done here. Almost all brazilian women get their nails done this way. Never in my life I’ve heard of a woman developing allergies. Not saying that it doesn’t happen. I’m just saying I’ve never seen it. I’ve been doing my own nails the Brazilian way since I was about 14 years old. 20 years later and no allergies.
@cindyshirreffs20994 ай бұрын
I'm not Brazilian and I also hate "the gap". I just try to get the gel _really_ close to the edges.
@juliadandy60194 ай бұрын
@cindyshirreffs2099 yep, with gel you should def not do this technique because of allergies. Here in Brazil it is done because it is regular nail polish, gel is not as popular here yet.

You spend more time cleaning it up than they you would if you just did it right the first time. Who does that? Lazy people or people who don't know what they're doing. I wouldn't even call that a technique,it's just sloppy

I believe with air dry polish this is called a "Brazilian manicure" and is cleaned up with a cotton swab and acetone.

Even with cleaning it off with a brush, there's still a lot left in the side walls which will cause allergies as well. This is just a lazy technique to be honest.

Do not use gel!!! But it's safe to do with normal - when I say safe it's not like healthy but won't kill you. All brazilian manicures do it and no one ever died or lost a finger from it. Please stop shaming techniques and calling it dangerous when it's really not, and it gives a bad name out there.
@NailCareerEducation2 ай бұрын
Please note- I never said it was dangerous nor did I say anything about anyone dying or loosing fingers. If you rewatch you’ll see I’m simply talking about developing an allergy and informing the actual use for the product is Not on the skin.

As far as I've seen, it's done with regular polish. They use a cotton wrapped pointed tool. It's part of the Russian manicure fad. Let other countries do what they want I guess. We have our education for a reason.

I’ve seen many doing it with gel polish. I wouldn’t recommend it for gel polish, or nail polish.

This is a technique common in Brazil,but done with normal polish since the nail polish there don’t have much pigment and like that you can get a smooth surface.you then clean the skin immediately with a stick in alcohol which gives you a clean edge.

Susie, be for real. I have never seen anyone implementing this technique curing the gel polish before cleanup using this technique. Chop shops use your second technique to try to speed up their process. I don’t believe that’s a safe technique at all. There was dark residue all near the cuticle skin, yuck 🤢

0.03 - no never, but anything for content.. The get it on everywhere technique doesn't exist. Everyone who uses gel polish knows skin contact with the product is a bad thing. Suzie, you're better than plucking made up stuff from thin air for content... Yes I can't prove it because you have conveniently pixelated a "video" and won't name names. Shame on you.

@@rosey_ie I just knew a sad pathetic fanatic would come to the "rescue" on Suzi's behalf. She didn't ask you, I left a comment for her not you. You types of people are so pitiful; get a life And I still stand by what I said, it was a daft video about an issue that does not exist in the professional nail technician sphere. This video was made because she was out of ideas and/or needed content. Also I've seen videos where Suzi herself has made a terrible job of applying gel (albeit she cleans up prior to curing) so maybe this video is is serving as a reminder to herself, who knows. Now back to you "Rosey", you're pathetic. 😊

Do you ever use dip? I do my nails at home and have a HEMA allergy. I’ve tried a few “hema free” gel products and still have a reaction. I’ve never tried acrylic myself since I don’t know how to use it. But I do ok with dip.
