@@JarrodsTech 4k is honestly not as much of an improvement compared to the 2880x1800 screens seen on the g14, 120hz on the other hand is a game changer for doing anything on your laptop, it just feels much faster and smooth. I can't imagine anyone who's serious about digital drawing being happy to settle for doing it on a wobbly and fragile screen at a 60 degree angle supported by just a couple of hinges. The display should have had a 180 or 360 degree hinge so that it can be supported either by the desk it's on or the laptop's chassis. 24fps video content (the standard for TV, cinema, and much of KZbin) is also going to tear or stutter on a 60Hz panel without VRR.

As for fan, I wasn't able to max it out, the MyASUS software says need to go somewhere else before you can use manual mode (you can see it on screen in the performance mode section), but I wasn't able to work out how to do that, so I only tested in performance mode, which I didn't have a whine issue with the Zephyrus. I suspect it's much the same though if you are able to get it maxed.

Soldered memory issue is not necessarily about capacity. I've had RAM sticks die only after 2 years of use. Were it soldered, I'd need to replace the chips at service instead of swapping the sticks. Apart from people already mentioning 60Hz, this issue also pretty much limits my choice to lenovo laptops.

Top SKU having a 4070 8GB is a bit disappointing, would have liked to see 4080 and 4090 SKUs especially given the UHD+ screen (130W TGP+boost beats G16's 125W so I don't see it being a limiting factor). Edit: it appears the max TGP is 105W with boost - considering the temps hit 80C at performance there's definitely some thermal headroom for increased TGP (if a 4080/4090 model existed).

@@federicocatelli8785 of course you can, there's no difference between having a 4070/4080/4090 if the TGP is identical - then higher end GPUs don't draw more wattage. Regardless of that, the dGPU can be turned off (mostly) on battery and that's the usual behaviour, so the iGPU takes over as the display driver (which sips power regardless of what dGPU is on board).

The gripe I have with soldered memory is how expensive the upgrade is. Companies like ASUS trying to sell you 16GB of RAM for 100$+ and getting away with it is bullshit. I don't give a damn how fast it is, their margin on that is getting closer and closer to Apple. It doesn't make any sense that it's cheaper to order a stick of RAM. Aside from that the screen being 60hz is disappointing, but most of all it can't go all the way back for sharing and pen use? I don't know. The weight just doesn't justify the compromises in my opinion. Great vid as always, thank you for your hard work Jarrod - Proud G14 2023 and Legion 5 gen 6 17" thanks to your reviews

Dell offers 90Hz which is fair, so if this laptop goes 90Hz, I think it would be a laptop without weaknesses (on paper), as no MUX to the 4K screen, not really likely to be able to play games with more than 90FPS with the laptop screen, but somewhere in-between 60-90 fps would be nice.

The WiFi speeds are probably due to MediaTek, may be improved with a driver update. I also have an ASUS laptop with a MediaTek WiFi card and when I first got it, it was bad, a couple months later with some updates it became fine. But it still fails to start sometimes from the Windows Modern Standby (leaving me WiFi-less until a hard reset), which is one of the reasons I have completely disabled that. MediaTek WiFi cards are to be avoided if possible, though the majority of AMD-based laptops don't really give you much choice.

This might be a layman's take but these different laptop models seem like platforms for artificial use cases arbitrarily made up by manufacturers so they can sell more lineups. It makes no sense. A laptop with a good screen will always be a laptop with a good screen no matter the user. A laptop with a good battery will always be a laptop with a good battery no matter the user. Designing a laptop with the same internals as the G16 but a slower refresh rate screen is just an excuse to sell yet another model. They could easily have sold a single chassis with customisable display options instead. It would make a lot more sense for manufacturers to follow Framework's lineup. But I suppose there's money to be made in confusing the consumer

Are you sure that LPDDR5's apparent faster MT rate results in better performance? At least in synthetic benchmarks (like AIDA64's memory benchmark suite) latency and read speed seem to be atrocious, resulting in even LPDDR5 rated at over 7000MT/s performing way worse than regular DDR5 sodimm laptops.

At this price point I'd rather go for a Razer Blade (which is also a bad choice 🤷‍♂️) instead. I mean, can you really see the differences between 2K and 4K on a screen this size? Idk, 2K and higher refresh rate seems more appealing.

I'm searching for a new laptop and I found a strange one that has a 4080, an i7 13650HX and 16 gb ram at "only" 1799 euros. It's an ROG G16 or something like that and I don't know if it's good or not because there's no one who has done a benchmark on youtube... P.S. I'm searching for a good laptop at 2000 euros (coming from a GTX 1660ti laptop and i5 10300h)

... nice to hear the note : "this is a sponsored video". Basically, this is a nice MacBook-like windows laptop ! with no scar on the lid (big thanks to ASUS, I really hate that on the 2024 G14 and G16). If you choose 64 gigs of memory (which I highly recommend), then you should be fine. But this is definitely NOT any gaming laptop we are used to see here on this channel, right? so, 60Hz OLED will be fine just for the content creators, while the core gamers will want the usual 240Hz screen; the TGP is simply where it is, again, this is not a gaming laptop ... which brings me to the major problem I have here : the overall performace. It is as thin as it can be and therefore you are getting only average numbers. This laptop will get old sooner than later.

85 watt to 105 watt on the Rtx 4070 is ridiculous as it needs the full 140 watts to completely stretch its legs for Maximum performance. Our Acer Predator Helios 16 Rtx 4070 can pull upwards of 130 watts while benchmarking while some games utilize almost 138 watts which is close to the max 140 so honestly an 85 watt to 105 watt tdp seems low, however with only a 60fps display it’s probably fine regardless.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech Ай бұрын
No 4070 laptops go beyond 100 watts in actual games in a sustained consistent manner, so it's not that far off full power like I said. Explanmation is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH6wo5tshdV_f5Y

@@JarrodsTech Ours does though albeit not with all games as most usually fluctuate between 95 watts to 110 watts but some games such as lies of P all max settings @ 1600p consistently pulls between 135 to 138 watts while gaming, and there’s a few others that pull in the 120’s consistently but most definitely are usually right around 100 watts fluctuation so I’d partially agree with you but not completely.
