I am pretty much in the same situation. My husband retired in 2019 and I am still adjusting. You really don’t think much about it until you are in that position. I still have about 10 years before I plan to retire. I work full time and run my Etsy shop on the side. I thought about my plans, but have never written them down. Thanks for the video Kara. I plan to run my Etsy shop full time when I retire. So, over the next few years I plan to declutter my home, stick to a budget, eliminate as much debt as possible and save, save, save.

I completely relate to this so much. I too am a KZbin creator and my adult daughter lives at home. My husband works out of the home but my adult daughter only works outside three days a week for now. I always have schedules changing and it makes it harder to work around other schedules. Planning in this current environment here in the US is a bit difficult for me atm but I do like to have the horizon in view. Your point about putting it on paper is SO VERY TRUE. Writing it down by hand or into a document on the computer has a completely different impact on the grey matter. Love that. I think at a minimum it is important to decide if you do want a business or a hobby. It helps to drive all you do. But we’re all different and how we run our business is as different as our creative process. Love this one, Kara. Ty 😊

My spouse "retired" about 8 years ago. It was a HUGE change for me and my routine. I thought I would do Etsy forever, but things and times have changed. I have to keep creating, though, it's in my veins! ❤

Yes, my husband will be retiring in a few years. So I completely relate to what you are saying. I don't want to retire so I am beginning the planning process. I want to do more traveling shows, expand on subject matter, teach my trade in my home instead of in a classroom and make another studio since I gave mine up. After Covid my husband started working from home for the first time. I gave my work space to him. Both my adult kids and two of their college friends moved in my home at the same time. So immediate change was needed and it was nuts! But we made it work. Now I feel positive because I have time to plan so things can be done as I'd like. I'm still not sure what it will look like? Since my husband has continued to work from home this part won't be a change. I absolutely love your views on this! Your words give permission to be different and do "you".

Your description of yourself sounds exactly like me! I'm cheap, always working on a project, and I don't want to live in a box under a bridge one day. At 69yo, my word and plan for this year is purge all the stuff my kids won't want. I sell svgs in my Etsy shop but haven't done anything to it in the past 2 years and It still maintains itself with 25 listings. I like making the files but jumping through the Etsy hoops and creating the listing makes me cringe. Husband is retired (71) but has health issues so everything I do is on a short timeline.

I don't have a plan, at least not written down; so thanks, Kara, for bringing this up. I am trying to declutter, it's so overwhelming!

I’m actually trained in facilitating visual plans with drawings and everything. Do I have one for my shop/life? No! I’m planning on retiring early from my real job and doing my vintage shop, knitting and who knows? Well I guess a plan would be a good idea.

I need to put this one on repeat!! This is where I’m at. Not that my husband has retired (would be 2nd retirement) but got hired on in CO and our new home for only 2 years that we love is in UT. We just brought my mother out here and don’t want to uproot her again so we are in the process of finding a smaller home in CO and will commute back and forth to make sure she’s okay. I can’t transport my wood paintings every trip and my sales decline when I delay my shipping times. And it’s a chore to keep changing them and the announcement that never gets read (even the one in each listing about a delay in shipping). Thinking it is time to move more towards my personalized prints and digital art because I can have a printer in both places at least. But it’s hard to let the wood art go because I have a garage full of well foraged pieces just waiting to be painted. I have been drifting for the last few years (since this is our 3rd move). I need to make “A Plan”. Thank you for your great advice.

I have a vague plan. 😁 I have a job and Etsy is my side hustle. I’d like to sell on Etsy during retirement, which will allow me to work as much or as little as I want. I’m several years away from retiring, but my husband is retiring next year. We already had a huge adjustment after the big “C” in 2020. His company allowed everyone to work from home and they still do to this day. I have worked from home for the past 16 years and having him home during the day has really affected my productivity. It’s been a huge adjustment that’s ongoing. 😩

Thanks Kara! Im definitely going to do that. I also agree with the pen and paper idea. I think it "sticks" better in your brain when you hand write it😊 i appreciate you and your content❤ Tammy, Cape Cod, MA
