Ive got 2 partner 5000 saws, the 490 is a splash off the 5000. One is for show the other is for carving. They are a really really good saw. Keep up the good work J!

I had one of those as a firewood and general property maintenance saw for thirty years. It didn't do a huge amount of work but was a little trooper which punched above its weight when I asked it think like a big saw now and then and never let me down. Because of its age and parts non availability I decided to upgrade it and sold it off to a collector. Since proper Jonsered's were sadly long gone I was initially keen on the 261CM and also looked at the 455XP MkII. I was astounded to realise how much heavier they were than the 490- I was expecting advances to have resulted in lighter rather than heavier equivalents. After much consideration and handling them all I ended up going with the Shindaiwa 510SX (Echo 501P twin) due to it being a good Japanese quality pro series saw with similar weight to the 490 and all of the advantages and none of the disadvantages of the other two. What's more, it's red too- yay. A little more delicate than the other two but I am careful with my gear. Having done a few days of firewood with it now I'm very happy, particularly with how it digs in under load. And I'm confident it will still be going in thirty years, unlike it's computerised contemporaries. Great to see one here and what they can do when they are breathed on- all credit to those guys at Jonsered all those years ago. Sure doesn't sound like my one used to anymore, what a zinger.

I had a lot of jonsered’s back in the day , 630s and 670s the 670 was a real screamer right out of the box . Sadly they wore out years ago . I still have a dead one on the shelf , can’t part with it . 👍🇨🇦

Have you ever tried instead of epoxy for gluing, use the catalyst and acrylate adhesive for attaching the rearview mirror mount to a glass windshield? From what I have seen the bond is stronger and the adhesive sets a lot harder and more heat resistant. It is very specifically the mirror adhesive with catalyst I am describing and not just regular super glue which is likely not as good and is a different formula material.

Very impressive powers from 50cc saw. Do you have any specific reason why you were able to get 6,6hp from this but over one HP less from other 50cc saws like 550xp, ms261 and 026? Woud be ineteresting to know what really makes such a big gain.
@JoshNoss5 ай бұрын
Off topic to this particular video but: how much HP-TQ gain do you typically see from removing the spark arrestor screen from ported saw muffler? I always leave em in cause I figure It'll help keep junk out, but is there anything to truly be gained by taking em out? (592 you did for me sounds awesome btw! and the 550, 572 cut great! can't wait to try the 592 out in the wood) I'd be very interested to see or hear of any dyno testing on the screen issue. Thanks Joe!

Hey Red any experience with "alternate" ms661c pistons? Plastic bearing cages went out and it dinged up the piston on the sides (jug is still beautiful) I was wondering about adding a highway popup on a BGD saw since I have no machining capacity. Might do some light grinding on the lower transfers and exhaust while i'm in. Saw is new to me and I got it for a song since it was "blown up" 😁

That looks just like a husky 51/55 cylinder. Coincidence or no? Either way bad ass saw man, love it.
@82f100swb4 ай бұрын
They are directly related. Husky dug into the Partner parts bin to build the 50/51/55. Husky built their own chassis, but the crank, flywheel, clutch, intake design(mostly) and top end came from Partner. The 44mm 50 top end is from the Partner 500, the 45mm 51 is the Formula 500, and the open port 46mm 55 is the 540/543.

Joe could you do the same with a Jonesred 2051 as it’s a magnesium cased saw and I believe it’s a 50 cc as well?

Hi Joe. Nice jonsered. But in your opinion. Why a jonsered? I love my jonsereds from classic to newer. I'm always intrigued about jonsereds.

I thinking adding a 50 cc saw to my line up. You taking on port jobs? Thinking a 550 xp.

Those would be a good option for a worksaw version possibly. This wj carb is a bit larger than those since I knew the saw would be more race oriented.

that intake looked huge, I remember ironhorse saying in one of his vids that wide intakes like that are bad. why would he say that when it's clearly working? would u be able to make a 261mtronic make as much power as this btw?
@dynojoemods27645 ай бұрын
Wide intake is harder on the piston, but need time and area to make power. This should still hold up a long time with its intended usage. Still not to the excessively wide range yet. It would take Similar extensive mods to get a 261c close to this, not with the stock carb/intake for sure.

This was a slight tweak to the factory rod. It almost fell into place with the factory rod.
