In the face of age-old taboos and the fear mongering of child abuse, it is hard for educators, researchers, and politicians to be nonjudgmental about intergenerational sex and marriage. Nevertheless, we're obligated to recognize the larger field of inquiry and not limit our conceptual base to the inferences belonging to the victimology model, because it operationalizes sexual behavior using only negative terms, that are limiting, and often lead to convoluted results. In dealing with this issue, we should keep in mind that the viewpoint of mainstream society can not simply be taken as correct by default. Instead, each situation should be analyzed in terms of its historical and ideological roots. Only after such an exercise can we begin to address the more practical questions of ethics, the law, and social policies with regard to sexual contact between adults and children (and/or minors). A significant variable to consider with childhood sexuality are their ability to express their feelings, thoughts, and interests, particularly in public. Contrary to what people like to believe, children do act on their own desires and are erotically interested in sex. Children are actively collaborating in sexual relationships with their peers and with adults, despite discrepancies about the age of consent. Thus, the conundrum becomes clear: how to acknowledge a child’s developing cognitive capacity for sexual activity while also allowing them the chance to make autonomous decisions in their own best interests. Contemporary discourse surrounding childhood sexuality frequently centers on safeguarding children from potential harm, resulting in the dominance of a victimological model that characterizes children primarily as potential victims. “The paradigm of child sexual abuse, as we know it today, forms part of a historical process, of which David Finkelhor’s texts are an integral part, in which resorting to the culture of victimism by the social sciences became prominent, perhaps even preeminent. This allowed for the establishment of a new moral order, as well as the rise of the ‘‘psychological industry’’. Children’s sexual experiences with adults are daunted by inappropriately interpreted events as applying to all childhood sexual experiences. These assumptions discourage research into the full range of the characteristics of such experiences. We should encourage unbiased investigations showing that such factors as reactions, effects, power, and motivations are much more varied and complex than the narrow views found in victimological assumptions, which are unfortunately accepted uncritically by professionals, the media, and the public. The victimological model tends to portray male figures as potential threats or perpetrators, which can reinforce harmful stereotypes and biases. By emphasizing children as victims, it inadvertently fosters an environment where toxic masculinity rhetoric becomes more prevalent. The characterization of all adult-child sexual interactions as inherently harmful can contribute to a perception that men, in particular, are prone to sexual predation. In this context, discussions surrounding toxic masculinity may perpetuate the fear and distrust of men, impacting how society views childhood sexuality, gender identity, and relationships. By challenging the victimological model's oversimplified approach, we can also question how it intersects with toxic masculinity rhetoric and whether this rhetoric is influenced by misinformation and fear associated with childhood sexuality. It's essential to explore how these two phenomena interact and how they collectively affect public perceptions, policies, and attitudes toward men, children, and the broader discourse surrounding these complex issues. By acknowledging the capacity of children to understand and engage with their own sexuality responsibly, society can transcend the limitations of the victimological model and work towards a more balanced, informed, and responsible approach that considers the complexities of childhood sexuality, toxic masculinity, and their interplay.

Proverbs 8:13 (International Children's Bible): "If you respect the Lord, you also will hate evil. It is wise to hate pride and bragging, evil ways and lies." They knew exactly what he did and they defended him. I suggest reading the article the Guardian wrote about him and what some of the Dutch officials said about him. He served one year out of his only four year sentence in the UK before he was transferred to the Netherlands, where they gave him a single month out of his remaining three year sentence. He served only 1/4 of his original sentence, which should itself have been 10x longer. It's despicable, and it's completely intentional. The Dutch have some serious housecleaning to do in their government and justice system.

He was 19 and she was 12. Can hardly use the I was a teenager excuse. Get him out of there. Why do his teammates put up with this?

19 and 12 is a major difference between pre pubscent and someone who is at the end of the puberty. Despicable

@@bremCZcorrect, I can find out how my country did without supporting the Olympics directly and reducing their viewership. Hopefully this Olympics sends a message to the committee and they change for the better next time.

He was not “just a teenager figuring out things!” At nineteen he is an adult and it’s despicable that he only served 1 year of a 4 years sentence!

only FOUR years? and he serves ONE? Are they utterly insane??

No no no...he represents everything opposite of what the Olympics stands for. What is wrong with the Dutch Netherlands people? He has to register as a sex offender for a reason. Many never change and must be watched! This is sick.

@RaccCity55 so u think other color athletes are innocent ? Olympics is a sport competition. Entertainment. It is not court nor politics. Athletes come in all form . Deal with it.

I’m never going to watch the Olympics just cuz of this bs. There’s people that get life sentences for doing it one time and yall saying 1 year is a long time. Why are yall even sympathetic toward him and not the victim? Disgusting

A seven year age difference isn't a big deal if the man is 39 and the woman is 32. But when the man is 19 and the girl isn't even a teenager yet, it's a disgusting crime! A child predator shouldn't be competing in the olympics.
