This was actually Truman Capotes life. He loved his Aunt Sook. The neighbor was actually Nelle Harper Lee. When she wrote To Kill A Mockingbird, the little boy named Dill, was based on Truman Capote. The famed Robert Duvall played Boo Radley.

This is a wonderful movie. It put a lump in my throat. Letting one have wings is all so very important. He lived with good loving friends and that will go with him throughout his life. We all are in others lives for a time and a season. This boy is not buried. He has a future. Many great minds have been stimulated by nurturing. Fruitcake Weather. I cried my eyes out. 😭 Such a beautiful and heartbreaking storey. I was sent to a nunnery boarding school at 4 years old. I was so scared, heartbroken and lonely. This storey reminds me of that time. First time for me, seeing this wonderful film. Thanks so much. So nice to see Patty Duke too, acting her guts out! What an actress. Truman Capote could sure write stories! Wow! The part about the Whiskey and the dog and both of them getting a bit plastered, reminded me of my own childhood too. My mother liked to drink a beer now and then when she got migraine headaches. She would pour a can into her favorite mug. She would lie down on the sofa, our dachshund, named Fritz, would lie down behind her legs as she fell asleep on her side. Her mug of beer carefully balanced on her hip. He would then lick clean the half of leftover beer! He would get plastered, and wind up on his back, tongue hanging out, sauced on half of beer! The other story I fondly remember was when I was and adult, working and living on my own, working night shift at a local ER. Dad got called up in his Guard unit to go to the Gulf War. Poor mom, she had been diagnosed with a seizure disorder and was not allowed to drive. I, at age 26 got my license finally, and spent a year before he was called up renting cars and driving to the beach and doing all kinds of driving, not knowing I would wind up being mom's driver, using my Dad's car while he was away. This is what happened. One night after a particular hard day of errands, we were watching how some of the compounds had been bombed over there. My paternal Grandmother called us up claiming she saw my Dad on TV on stretcher, killed by one of those Scud missiles! As Mom and I anxiously watched the news, Mom got a migraine, as did I. Well she made us Pina Colladas. But she was using 151 proof Vodka or Rum cannot remember which as I no longer drink, and 75 proof. I wanted the lessor of the two proofs. She got our drinks confused. I had been planning on taking the bus home, it was night time, and she accidentally got me so drunk, one half drink of 151 proof that I could not leave the house! Meanwhile, she had an entire 75 proof, and it had not helped her headache much. Then she realized her mistake! She swore me to secrecy to never tell Dad/her husband that she got me drunk in their home. I never told Dad until this past year, 2023, mom passed away in 2018 from Kidney Cancer. We were telling funny stories about Mom. He just looked at me, and laughed so hard. Thanks for this movie, and thanks for bringing back good memories of my own childhood and adulthood. Crazy things do happen. I could easily related to this movie. I am now 60 years hold, and Mom really like Truman Capote too. Blessings from Oregon!

I think this is the best Kelly Duke movie ever and she and the little boys both deserve awards for the acting in this movie…..Some of the very best on Patty’s part♥️❣️❣️ even though it was a heart wrenching movie, it was a great movie and I’m glad I got a chance to see it. Thank you so much for showing it and making it available on KZbin. It’s nice to know there’s quality movies available to us in amongst all the disgusting stuff. I remember Patty Duke fondly many many years ago in The Parent Trap where she played a twin (with herself). This is the very best role I've ever seen her play,she is stellar! I love to see LOLs (Little Old Ladies) more positively portrayed. Even though she is obviously a little "different", she is strong, powerful and so loving. She has personally survived a difficult lifetime.

Hayley Mills played the twins in The Parent Trap. Patty Duke played identical cousins on her TV sitcom The Patty Duke Show. Her big debut was as a child playing Helen Keller in the Miracle Worker, for which she won an Oscar.

If you liked this movie, please give yourself a real treat and watch the original version from 1966 starring Geraldine Paige. It's actually narrated by Truman Capote himself and follows his short story perfectly. I'm glad people enjoy this one but in my opinion the original just towers above it.

Wow, what a movie!! I've never seen this one before. Heartbreaking & heart-warming. Patty Duke was known as a stellar actress. I'll only remember her fondly!!! I only wish the overbearing sister didn't get her way bcs, although it probably was for the better, why does he have to grow up THAT soon? Those two shared such a strong & beautiful bond!!

Letting go is so hard but sometimes necessary in life, but knowing that love travels on in our hearts and minds even though apart, love does not die.
