My parents passed away in 2004, but while they were still living I showed them this movie, and there were a number of things they related to! Dad said their tires were always blowing out because you could only buy used tires during WWII. So he related to that blow out. Mom reacted to the teacher saying they were reading "Silas Marner.". "Oh, I HATED Silas Marner!" she said.

@@ks4isu Thank you so much for sharing your parents experience and how they related to this :) I think it’s little things like that which elevate a film. Those are things that I or many other viewers would not be aware of today so it helps to further make the film feel authentic and true to its era

That particular store front from the beginning, was for Higbees here in Cleveland. Unfortunately, its been gone for decades. All of the exterior shots in the movie are shot in Cleveland, very close to where i live. I worked for a small publishing company just a short walk from Ralphie's house in Ohio City--a Cleveland neighborhood. Fans of the movie bought the house and turned it into an 'A Christmas Story' museum. Some cast members make special appearances from time to time during the holidays. The owners even tried to recreate the house interior, even though those scenes were not filmed here. Leg lamps are practically a cottage industry in Cleveland because of the movie. You'll find them in the front window of many homes in Cleveland. And i swear, like EVERY neighborhood bar in Cleveland has one displayed, year round. The movie was not a hit when it came out, so it was gratifying to see it become a true Christmas classic. Saw it in the theater with my dad in 1983. I was 8. And even though i loved it and could relate to a lot, something about Santa pushing Ralphie down the slide with his shoe, disturbed me to my core. Kids can be sensitive to so many crazy, random things. THAT scene, and the robot woman in Superman 3, practically destroyed by childhood. Lol. Loved your reaction, per usual. Keep up the good work, man!

I will always love this movie. It reminds me what it was like to be a little kid. I think what I miss most about old-school Christmas are the toy stores, the crowded malls and sidewalks, and all the Christmas activities that were around like Christmas Tree lanes. My Dad would pack about dozen kids from the neighborhood in the car to go see the Christmas trees all lit up in the fancy neighborhood. For us, Christmas dinner was tamales. My Grandma and all the old ladies on the block would come over and spend the whole night making tamales and gossiping so that when we woke up, fresh tamales were all ready to eat. YUM!!!

I used to wonder if they ever thought there houses we're being scoped out for break-ins or something because I'm sure they would get a lot of vehicles just driving slowly around the neighborhood haha! Hope you enjoy some great tamales this year Bryan!

"No, no! I want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!" "You'll shoot your eye out, kid. Merry Christmas. Ho! Ho! Ho!" Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Zack Ward. Historical Fact: Red Ryder was a character from comic books and radio in the 1930s/40s, akin to popular western heroes like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and the Lone Ranger. Gun Enthusiast Fact: Due to this film's popularity, the Daisy Rifle Company has started producing Red Ryder BB Guns for sale during the Christmas season. It has become one of Daisy's best selling rifles. Movie Magic Fact: For the scene in which Flick's (Scott Schwartz) tongue sticks to the flagpole, a hidden suction tube was used to safely create the illusion that his tongue had frozen to the metal pole. Author Cameo Fact: Jean Shepherd (author of In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash (1966) which forms the basis of this movie) is not only the voice of a narrator, but is also the irate man waiting in the Santa line at the department store. The woman standing behind him is his wife, Leigh Brown. Toy Enthusiast Fact: The doll in the store window is NOT AN ANNABELLE DOLL! Raggedy Ann is a character created by American writer Johnny Gruelle (1880-1938) that appeared in a series of books he wrote and illustrated for young children. Raggedy Ann is a rag doll with red yarn for hair and a triangle nose. Her brother, Raggedy Andy, is similar to his sister, but he has a sailor cap and overalls. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: The people of Cleveland were incredibly cooperative during filming, donating antique vehicles from every corner of the city. These vintage vehicles helped to enhance the authenticity of the production design. During the filming in downtown Cleveland, the antique automobile club members whose cars were used were given a route to follow on Public Square. They were instructed to continue circling the square until otherwise instructed. Road salt was a major concern for the car owners and the cars were pressure-washed after each day's filming and parked underground beneath the Terminal Tower. Fixer Upper Fact: In 2005 the original home used for the exterior shots of the family home was put up for auction on eBay, and avid fan of the movie Brian Jones purchased it directly from the seller for $150K. Jones then spent the following year restoring the home to the way it looked on screen. The exterior was completely restored and the interior was renovated to match the interior of the home shown in the movie (parts of the interior were actually filmed in a Toronto studio). On November 25, 2006, the home finally opened its doors as a tourist attraction. Jones spent close to $500K in preparation for this grand opening. In addition, he also purchased a house across the street and converted it to a gift shop and museum dedicated to the film and the house.
