Diabetis is a chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. When you have diabetes, your body either resists the effects of insulin or doesn't produce enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells. Your cells use sugar for energy. Without enough insulin, sugar builds up in your blood.
Types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that causes your body to attack and destroy the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, but it can develop at any age.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It occurs when your body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal glucose levels. Type 2 diabetes is often linked to obesity and physical inactivity.
Gestational diabetes develops in some women during pregnancy. This type of diabetes usually goes away after childbirth, but it can increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
Reasons of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes is caused by an autoimmune reaction that destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. The exact cause of this autoimmune reaction is unknown.
Type 2 diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors for type 2 diabetes include obesity, physical inactivity, a family history of diabetes, and certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Gestational diabetes is thought to be caused by changes in the way the body metabolizes glucose during pregnancy.
Complications of diabetes:
Diabetes can lead to a number of serious complications, including:
Heart disease and stroke
High blood pressure
Kidney disease
Nerve damage
Eye damage
Skin problems
Foot problems
Foods chart to control diabetes:
A healthy diet is essential for managing diabetes. People with diabetes should focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods and limiting their intake of added sugar, unhealthy fats, and refined carbohydrates.
Here is a sample food chart for people with diabetes:
Breakfast:
Oatmeal with berries and nuts
Yogurt with fruit and granola
Whole-wheat toast with eggs and avocado
Lunch:
Salad with grilled chicken or fish
Lentil soup
Sandwich on whole-wheat bread with lean protein, vegetables, and low-fat cheese
Dinner:
Salmon with roasted vegetables
Chicken stir-fry with brown rice
Lentil stew with whole-wheat bread
Snacks:
Fruits and vegetables
Nuts and seeds
Hard-boiled eggs
Yogurt
It is important to note that this is just a sample food chart. People with diabetes should work with their doctor or a registered dietitian to create a meal plan that meets their individual needs.
In addition to eating a healthy diet, people with diabetes should also exercise regularly and take their medications as prescribed. With proper management, most people with diabetes can live long and healthy lives.
