A Day in the Life of a Seminarian

St. John’s Seminary presents “A Day in the Life” of our seminarians, as they grow in understanding of their call to the priesthood and gain knowledge to be an articulate witness to the Gospel. In study, in our seminary community and in service to others, each man comes to know how to live a faithful priestly life.

Yes of course, as long you are in good health, there is nothing stopping you. When I was in seminary there were students of all ages, I think the eldest was in his mid 60's. If God wants you he will not stop calling. God bless and best of luck.

The harvest is great but the laborers are few god needs more laborers for our faith the snares of evil is rampant god needs soldier to battle the evil and how can I offer of my contribution of the battle I ask mama Mary for her guidance for our seminarians I pray the 4 mysteries every day for almost a year now, and I found out that there is a huge turnover of youths enter the seminarian in USA many in different protestants dinamination inter to a Catholic faith I said wowww mama Mary was true in her promise there will be a conversion of sinners to our catholic faith, I personally thank to fr, Donald calloway, me Steve ray, doctor scotch hann, Dr brand petri and many more who inspired us of thier knowledge about our faith formation they enlightened our doubts and clear our mind and put us back in the right tract as of now there is a huge turnover Bach to to our faith, thank you mama Mary of your greatest concern to us to put us back to our love to your son Jesus I am a Filipino and Jesus was given to our native land 500 hundred years ago in limasawa island where the first mass took happened to us we are only catholic nation in south east asia and still growing and to our brothers in us keep the love of Jesus burning I am always praying for the rest of my life mama Mary love us so much as Jesus love his mother by the way our first mass happened in march 16, 1521 exactly 500 years ago for the love of Jesus and mama Mary carry on Jesus love will see you through

I've always wanted to become a priest but I am so confused I am 18 years old and I feel more closer to the priesthood I just get distracted by a lot of things an example of this is a relationship I am currently in that's what makes doubt about entering the priesthood I've been inspired when I watch these videos it motivates me more to enter the seminary but there are many things holding me back

Hey man, discerning is definitely a super confusing time for a lot of people. It ultimately involves an honesty and a letting go. You can only discern one vocation at a time - if you're in a relationship right now, it's important to tell her that you do feel attracted to the priesthood so that she is aware of that. If you want to discern marriage first, then continue to pursue the relationship. But if you're feeling a definite tug towards the priesthood, it is important to be honest with her and take the time to talk to a vocations director. Entering seminary isn't a commitment to 100%-for-sure becoming a priest, it's a discernment of the priesthood. You may enter and discern out. Or you may enter and realize that is what God wants for you. You won't know until you let go and let God guide you.

Star_City_Mayor if it makes you feel better, lots of people who start discerning don't want to tell anyone and approach the vocations director asking for anonymity / confidentiality. If you need to talk to a director, you can definitely do it in confidence. God doesn't desire you to stress about what his will is for your life - He desires you to seek it. You can look into colleges and talk to a vocations director at the same time. Praying for you to have the courage and peace to seek out and follow wherever he's guiding you, whether it's seminary or college. :)

Hi Joseph and Iosefo, Any relationship starts with spending time with each other. Best way for me to talk with God and to learn his heart is prayer through Adoration, Mass, and Scripture reading (Lectio Devina specifically) - It's relationship in development currently. God will not give you anything you cannot handle my friend. A good book to read also is "To Save A Thousand Souls". Don't let anything deter you from listening to God's voice. As for discernment, our Blessed Mother will always help you towards the right path (even if we think we made a mistake) and I would recommend going to a "Come and See" to actually see what seminarian life is about and meet the seminarians! They have been in your place so they know what it is like. And no these seminarians are not raging Sodomites. They are raging Catholic Men (Gay or Straight) in love with Christ and Discerning His Will. Man In The Wilderness, I am not trying to target you but this society in general... behind a computer or cellphone screen it is easier to make comments and generalizations. However, When you meet the actual people on the screen you get to know their story, the struggles they go through, and the REAL love for Christ that they have. This could be refugees from Aleppo, Syria or Gay seminarians. I just want to say that Gay seminarians are not running away from their life by entering seminary, they are SPRINTING to the one who gives us eternal life, Christ. It is he alone who can fulfill the deepest desires of our heart. St. Augustine said, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you (God)".

How about you how can you contribute for the laborers of god to battle our enemies, saint Padre PIO said pray pray pray don't get tired we must win this battle for the greater glory of god pick up your weapon ,,,the rosary the sulter of mama Mary even you are far just pray and offer it to our seminarians they are the front runners of this battle say the rosary everyday and learn the life of Jesus praying the rosary you are also praying the holy Trinity the almighty father, the son who is jesus and the holy spirit, what mama Mary was blessed amongst woman? Becuase she is the divine grace of the father almighty, the spouse of the holy spirit and the mother of Jesus our redeemer in other words the holy Trinity had collaborated to a humble woman name Mary and our mother too that is the reason why she was blessed amongst women she is the depository of graces from god above so never tired of honoring our mother after all she was the woman cloth in sunlight with a crown on her head that is very determined to crush the head of serpent ! In genesis of the old testament , let us gogogo soldier of Jesus!

What about Mayan idol worship that took place at the Vatican Synod Octobef 2019? Mayan idols were given homage at the Vatican and a church dedicated to the BVM had these idols ! How can you all support the current RC positions on global warming, annulment process and sadly.....this allowing of Mayan idols on sacred grounds. I was in the Redrmptorist seminary back in the mid 1970's but was deeply influenced by Chatismatic Renewal....very hard for me to see the decline of the RC church.
