Wow! When you threw food out on the ground it was sure easy to see the difference in Splitty's tail and the rest of the squirrels! Splitty definitely is the winner of the fluffiest tail. I also like how he eats a little and then looks in at you as if in appreciation when he's at the window. So adorable.....all of them!!

Hello Everyone! Splitty was shaking his back side just like my cats do when they're feeling frisky! 😂 I see some of the birds that I feed that are living in a bush come out fighting for seeds rights. What strikes me about Splitty is that he seems very skilled at picking food with his mouth. Other squirrels seem more clumsy or skip it entirely and use their hands to pick the food and bring it to their mouth.

Splitty looks like he’s making his play to be alpha! I guess all his war-wounds & scars prove his put in the effort for a shot at least. His many victories have made him strong! It’s lovely that Earl & little Huey also got a chance to grab some snacks & seeing lovely Minnie & the equally adorable Cutie is always a treat. They all need lots of extra food on days like that to help them keep warm & stave off the colds & the soggies! Poor Samy though - having 7 males fighting over you must be quite a bewildering & intimidating prospect. Let’s hope she approved of the victor!

My momma always runs for me if some squirrel is bothering her. She’ll come right to my foot on the ground where others won’t feel safe. Until mating season. Then she playfully runs and plays hard to get 😂 It took me a second to understand. I just love your squirrel friends ❤️

Squirrels are interesting creatures. I assume their world view is different than that of humans.

Judging by the scars on my hands-, not much different. They get upset when somebody "steals" their stuff (or cleans their nest) - and females look for the alpha male to breed with. When they get treats (like a fave nut or a fruit), they usually go eat it instead of hiding it. Basically, living with a squirrel is like having a recalcitrant 5 year old. When its bed time, they will do their best to play and pretend they don't hear you. If you get to sleep in - they make sure you're awake at your usual time. They are super curious about new things (like an animal they have never seen before - or some new piece of furniture - which was, of course, purchased just for their enjoyment. Unlike 5 year olds, they will destroy a set of drapes playing hide n seek. And when they have had enough, they splooge out like tiny bear skin rugs. But take a nut from her condo cache, mine stamps her tiny little foot before she goes all ginsu on the hand that had the temerity to snag an almond. She's not a lap pet - no shedding and no cuddling - but she is the Best. Pet. Ever.

I saw a squirrel in my veggie garden today by the trunk of fruit tree. She was about 5 feet away from me, kind of unusual. Ten feet or more is their usual spread. There is a small piece of plywood leaning against the tree. A few seconds later another squirrel popped her head out from under the plywood. Her head was about half the size of mom's. Mom went back to her to give some affection. Then the little one made a sound of slight distress, and mom was carrying her across the edge of the garden to a place about 40 feet away. I've seen mother cats do that, but never a squirrel, especially since the young squirrel was at least half her size.

The Blue Jays and Crows are teaching the Squirrels that if they are too afraid to get the food, I throw to them these birds are more than happy to. The Crows are magnificent. Pitch black and big. But Squirrels can chase them away! Not very efficiently though. The Blue Jays have a strange noise they make. Most are young. They love nuts.
