In Brazil we also call goalkeepers "cats" due to their reflexes! hahahaha Want a good story about the animal-football relationship: Brazil National football in the past just like several countries contained "tones" of racism like the whole world, and in the middle of this situation our rivals fans started some connotations to insult us, Botafogo, Fluminense and Vasco used to call us as Urubus (Vultures) that fly over Rio favelas as an reference to majority of our fan base that were low-income blacks, and from that our mascot emerged, we adopted the animal, and we want to be referred as Urubu, in fact it would be a dishonor not to be, we caught an extremely important animal of Brazilian ecosystem, far from being an noble one that was ridiculed by rival fans as the one to represent our team!!! The same goes for some aspects of Interncaional from Porto Alegre who love a character of Brazilian myth Saci! This sport means much more than a few kicks in a ball!!!

True - football is part of the socio-cultural fabric in a society and we can learn a lot from the sport. I speak about the 'Urubu' nickname in the 'Brazilian Clubs Explained' video. I love that Brazilian clubs have taken insults and embraced them by making them their official nicknames and mascots. I think 'Porco' and 'Peixe' (pigs and fish) for Palmeiras and Santos are other examples.

‘The underdog(s)’ is another common phrase in football. E.g. Villareal were the underdogs in the Europa League final. (Meaning: not the favourites to win). Another word for a small football club commonly used in the UK is ‘minnows’. E.g. the minnows from Spain won the Europa League. (A minnow is a small fish) ✌️⚽️

Funny enough, in Russia a ref is often referred to as a "goat" (козёл). Unlike the positive nature of G.O.A.T., this comparison is rather an equivalent of "cabron" in Spanish :)

ha so maybe Pierluigi Collina is the goat goat :) (but to be honest he made a few strange decisions in his time - there is one notorious one against Everton in a Champions League qualifier with Villareal.)

Is this ‘the owl’ for the ‘top corner’?
@denial10043 жыл бұрын
@@EnglishforFOOTBALLFANS he said "what a wave" wich is an slang to express confusion when you see something very strange, confusing or surprising to you. the thing about owls you said is actually "onde a coruja dorme" in english "where the owl sleep".

You should start investing your time in making vidios to describe european football ,transfer markets ,rules ,tactics ,and general things in football to understand its emotion .that would be really a good channel to watch

Every video I make is about football - I suppose this one lists vocabulary more than others but it is trying to show the culture of football in the UK. I'm not sure what you mean exactly.

@@EnglishforFOOTBALLFANS i mean you should try these specific topics : how transfer market works,names for diffrent shots(hitting the ball in certain way which leads in scoring goals ,things about modern football

Mir Mueed Yes I think the transfer market deserves another video and possibly the differences between leagues. I’ve made lots of videos and different types of shots/passes/tackles have been discussed. Thanks for the suggestions.

Drop a video explaining cites (club name ) of top 4 leagues in europe . Which city are they named after it's really confusing sometimes ,talking about most common rivalries from the same country and so on .

Mir Mueed Yeah good ideas. It’s interesting to know that some things that I think are common knowledge are actually not for some football fans.
