To be fair, I think the Castlevania Collection was released around the same time as the show was kicking off? Still, you're not wrong, and it would be nice if they released something substantial once the Richter arc kicks off on the show.

@@flophouseplays Oh yeah, Konami got no problem with grabbing their old games and asking for money again for stuff they did years ago, Castlevania, Contra, Gradius and recently Ninja Turtles... but to put some time, effort and money into a new thing? Even a deliberately retro game? Nah. Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night and it's two 8-bit style Curse of the Moon games fill the Castlevania gap nicely (as do fan games like this one in the video) but yeah Konami just don't try anymore. Total shadow of their 8, 16, 32 bit selves.

@@flophouseplays They could always re-release the Dracula X Chronicles remake of Rondo of Blood. That's probably going to be the main basis for the Richter arc, judging from the preview. At least we can get regular Rondo on modern consoles with the cheap Requiem port, I guess. ;|

I love how like 75% of the sprite work is taken from a bunch of different castlevania games, just slightly tweaked and mishmashed together to make neat looking areas. It somehow really works here in a fun way.

Many characters (including all bosses) came from a Chinese java game, from 2008, called "Demon house". In 2012, it was ported to iOS/Android devices using the name "Avenger". The last Boss here is the protagonist of "Demon House 4".

This fan game seems to be using nicely touched-up sprites from the old Demon Hunter Legend series for Chinese flip-phones. I remember "legally acquiring" the 3rd one as a kid. Not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but Sheeba Faulkner's sprite is a recolor of the playable character from "Fairy Magic Robbery of Killing Law", and also uses sprites from the "Demon Hunter Legend" series, both being Castlevania-inspired chinese games for Java and Symbian phones. I'm sure they used these sprites because of another fangame, Castevania Fighter, which has the MC from Demon Hunter 3 and 4 as a playable character.

I can already tell from the main menu layout that this runs on the Open Beats of Rage engine, which is wild considering that engine's mostly made for Beat em ups.

I noticed that as well, it's impressive someone could turn a beat 'em up engine into a full on action platformer like this. Never can doubt the ingenuity of game developers, especially fans with too much time on their hands who just want to do something cool for themselves.

For some clarification, some sprites are from a Castlevania inspired saga of mobile games named Demon Hunter. I came across them on Spriters Resource a long time ago and they've got at least 5 entries, but they're rather obscure, to my knowledge.

Lecarde Chronicles 1 is cool, but the second game is absolutely amazing. Migami (Mig Perez) is working on a new game called Chronicles of the Wolf and their previous game Wallachia Reign of Dracula is pretty cool as well. There is also Castlevania The Seal of the Curse (Ark House) that is really good and has a lot of style (Ark House games have bizarre yet amazing visuals )

I got around Migami's work when he released the first demo of Wallachia, but it totally passed me when the game got released on consoles, I still plan to buy, though. And it's kinda full circle when we consider mig's first Castlevania Fangames (Haunted Castle 2 and Haunted Castle 3, which were horrible.)

The first stage's background was Wygol Village from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Werewolf is from Portrait of Ruin. However the human sprite is from Castlevania Chronicles. This game's Cerberus isn't from any Castlevania game (probably an original). Queen Moth is from Bloodline, but was called Princess of Moss (typo on Konami's part).

I don't know if someone said it here, but all the character sprites/portraits and some of the enemies/bosses (namely the fishmen) for this game were taken from some java-games which were HEAVILY inspired by Castlevania. Funny enough, when those games (which were sometimes even unrelated to each other, mind you) were translated by some russian fans they were all combined into one series and titled "Castlevania Chinese" 🤭

I feel like whoever made this doesn't get castlevania at all. the characters control like a metroidvania entry to the series, which isn't as focused on platforming or challenge, in fact they're very easy games, but the og castlevania was developed around tight platforming and avoiding enemies. This is like a mish mash of different castlevania components that don't match up at all. if the stage design was challenging then they should have the characters with a fixed jump like old school castlevania. this game misunderstands what made metroidvania and classicvania good
