Native French speaker here. I don't use subjunctive after 'Il est évident que' (4:08) and subjunctive would definitely sound weird contrary to other cases where it is optional. I suppose you could argue 'evident' is an opinion but it is more about an objective reality than 'nécessaire' or 'normal'. Speaking of 'que', I learned the subjunctive forms at school preceded by 'que' precisely to distinguish them from indicative so that I was shocked at 3:01 until realizing it is subjunctive (duh the subject of the video, but it quickly followed a part about indicative 2:38-2:46 so that I was confused). Subjunctive is losing ground anyway, especially in everyday speech, but indeed it is still unavoidable in some cases and marks the well-taught speaker. Excellent accent by the way ;)

This is the first explanation that actually makes the "mood" part of it make sense. It does kind of remind me of how in (some dialects of) English we say to "never speak in absolutes" when expressing opinions or making inquiries/requests while in polite company, which is interesting.

I will show that to my students, thanks 👍🤗 - A French teacher PS: I doooon't think you can say "Je pense pas qu'il vient" though. It sounds strange not to use a subjunctive here! Oh but then again, I'm French so I probably use it wrong ahaha
@cyruszahed29555 жыл бұрын
I think i'd say 'je pense pas qu'il viendra" we're both french and we both probably use it perfecly even if we're wrong wich we never are even when we are :D

Je suis français et "je pense qu'il vient" is absolutely correct. For exemple : - "Quand penses-tu qu'il va venir ?" (When do you think he will come ?" - "Je pense qu'il vient à 5 heure" ( I think he will come at five o'clock) versus : "penses-tu qu'il va venir ?" (Do you think he will come ?) -"Je ne pense pas qu'il vienne". ( I don't think he will come)
@KevinAbroad4 жыл бұрын
@@mecha-sheep7674 No one said "Je pense qu'il vient" was incorrect :D. I was simply pointing out that when you turn this sentence into the negative form, it calls for the subjunctive :).

I would say "je ne pense pas qu'il vient (boucoup mais il vient des fois)" kind of thing... present habit, and if it was a party and the future it would be subjunctive ie. I dont think he will come/will be coming. This is what the subjunctive tells us... it's something that hasn't happened. I lived in France as a child but my grammar and writing arent great. That said, I have the subjunctive down pretty naturally, which helps!

Salut la ferpection, je suis français et j'ai adoré ta vidéo ! Moreover, you learn me that this case it's called "the subjonctive" and as i'm french since my birth, it's natural for me so I didn't knew it perfectly xD Me gusta idiomas también, sé como hablar en español pero puedo sempre tener errores cuando escribo/hablo en español jaja Eu comecei a aprender Português porquê mi namorada fala português mas cuando falo en português eu hablo español (C'est chiant ça xD) И для мне язык, который мне нравится больше всего, русский. но это немного трудно 😂 Mais je suis fière de ma langue aussi :P Ta chaîne mérite plus d'abonnés !
