I always find people who say Ritsuka is a SI hilarious There's this one dude who claims Ritsuka has no character, but then contradicts himself almost immediately by saying they're a bad character, implying they DO have character, just a bad one Then another one was GENUINELY asking why the servants would need their command, you know? Goated video I have never understood why people to this day call Ritsuka a bland self insert character it is blatantly not true they obviously start out as one as you said but saying that they still are is disingenuous also for some reason Hakuno also gets called this which just makes me wonder if they have even touched Fate Extra because it is very obvious that Hakuno is not a self insert in any way (considering the amount of fake readers this franchise has this actually wouldn't shock me) For my own thoughts on Ritsuka my primary problem with him is how comically inconsistent he is in terms of personality and character which is partly due the writers switching and some writers decide to give him more personality and character moments than others.

Actually, Guda training their body physically isn't even speculation. Since every event (and as such interlude) is canon, Guda has trained Li Shuwen's martial art enough to defend himself pretty well. Not to mention grail fronts are made to train Guda both physically and mentally. I'm still of the mind that Guda has basically 0 practical knowledge of magecraft outside of summoning heroic spirits, but bro can 100% beat a normal person and maybe even a normal magus in hand-to-hand

The thing is that Ritsuka's biggest quality and what sets them apart from other Nasuverse protagonists is that they're painfully average. I just finished re-reading Part 1 recently and it ends with a conversation between Da Vinci and Romani where Romani says he's glad that Ritsuka is the last Master of humanity and not anyone else. You see how valuable that is? The King of Mages himself saying that he'd rather have a normal, average person saving the world than a proper mage. And that's because Ritsuka is supposed to represent humanity at large. Not the heroes of old, not the geniuses who pioneered eras. The one who saves the world is a normal, good-natured person. And it works perfectly in the context of FGO's history. The Grand Order is a fight to protect humanity. Ritsuka is the exact sort of person Heroic Spirits exist to protect; how could they not answer to their call?

I've only seen a couple spoilers from the upcoming Beast Nero event. But that struggle cements why I like the MC. Fujimaru is in a situation way beyond the wisdom or experience of any of the hero's he's met, and is caught in a situation that by all accounts would make him the villain, but he keep going. It's honestly a little inspiring to see someone caught in that much unknown keep going

People don’t understand the concept of ‘self-insert’ characters. Guda started as pure self-insert but I feel like they started changing it since Camelot. Shirou, Shiki are not as they are the mc of VN since VN has more forceful plots when it comes to feeling and relationship with female lead. When it comes to gacha game which players can choose their own waifu, giving too much personality (reactive) to every servant can annoy player. Let’s say some enjoy Francis Drake, some doesn’t. So it’s best to keep him neutral. However, there are also some exceptions where author was so sure that the chapter/character is goddamn good that players will definitely fall in love. That’s when Fuji were given more personality and become less self-insert and more like VN protag (Ex. Melt, Castoria)

what about narratives that kinda triggered by shippers ruining the friendship of Iskandar and Waver by inserting Ritsuka as a "more compatible" master. Invalidating Medea and Soichiro's relationship in FSN, or Shirou's three routes in Saber (servant stealing), Rin (spoiler warning, and Sakura (if OTP shippers hadn't already forced ShirouxSakura). or some fetishists inserting Ritsuka in as "the better" partner, suitor, and or husband of servants. as a horrible trend of fanfics have Ritsuka "isekai'd" into a setting, and unstead of helping characters and their relationships, writers make them (the majority being the male Ritsuka, while Female Ritsuka seems to be more of the friendly matchmaker or relationship therapist.) into the self-indulgent harem protagonist that seems to please everyone without consequence, sometimes even escalating the stakes for plot reasons.

Basing on the solomon arc ritsuka is supposed to be the representative of humanity. He/She is supposed to be right in the middle of the pack, not great as a human and not a bad person. This is why ritsuka sucked at magic, only talented people can wield strong magic. This is also why he managed to survive solomon temple, he simply only wanted to live, making goetia underestimate him. I'm sure that if goetia gave the offer of immortality to ritsuka and mash, and not to mash only, he would surely accept the offer and let the world die. Ritsuka should be the most MID of them all.

I know the point of Fujimura is that they’re supposed to be a self insert but I prefer an established character instead. This is why I really love Samurai Remnant. Miyamoto Iori is a really layered and complex character (and is probably my favorite Fate protagonist right next to Shirou).

I'm neutral on Guda, they're fine but Hakuno is still by far my fav protag. It's mainly the self insert crowd that demands every female servant is head over heels for Guda that leaves a bad taste in my mouth regarding them

I mean, yes???? Isn't Ritsuka supposed to be self-inserts?? How are we supposed to self-insert if their ideals are so far removed from the common people? Of course they're mid. In fact, there are moments in the story where they display exceptional qualities (the Garden scene in LB6) which in my opinion detracts a bit from them because I find it a bit hard to project myself with that kind of superhuman mental strength. What makes being "mid" turn "good" is by incorporating such "mid"-ness into the plot and character. Ritsuka is an anchor with which Mash and the Chaldea crews hold on to normalcy. The mid aspirations of the common people ensures that the future they're fighting for will always be one worth going home to. It's also the player's anchor to keep them invested in the story, and feel as if the outcome of the story also affects them. If Ritsuka is fighting to be some kinda god, then why should you care? Maybe you'd watch his journey but you'll root for him less.

Saying ritsuka is as good as waver is an overastimation ritsuka cant do magecraft himself at all which makes them much worse at magecraft in comparison to every fate protagonist outside of hakuno kishinami(cause magecraft doesn't exist in the extraverse) its why ritsuka's main weapons are shadow servants we dont even know which servants canonicaly got summoned there is no gurantee it was hundreds and ritsuka doesn't supply them with magical energy Even when outside of chaldea most of ritsuka's magical energy supply is magical energy flown into their body from chaldea And Even with it ritsuka is not on the level of a high level master as they faint multiple times from lack of magical energy when trying to supply some of their servants And wether the servants would want to relinquish their contract or not isnt really relevent for when the story ends as presumbley ritsuka goes back home and chaldea systems are shut down It would be hard enough to sustain a servant without the magical energy from chaldea but without chaldea to act as helping sustainer like the holy grail does during the wars they would just die from a servant moving the tip of a finger(as well as any other mage if they tried that) it doesn't take away from ritsuka for me but I think you exaggerating alot here

A few things here This was a statement of waver in a interlude himself and this was referring to mana We do by the start of LB it stated sherlock was impressed how ritsuka could make hundreds of servant contracts This is the thing this was orginal chaldea not the novum chaldea and even then All the mana that was used by his servants from LB1-2 were all ritsuka’s as storm border itself was running out And in LB5.2 storm border was lowering its mana to no be found same with LB6 In all these parts ritsuka was handling mana himself and the thing here even with novum chaldea and orginal chaldea they supplied him with summoning mana it’s displayed that ritsuka can still faint from mana exhaustion and can die like in LB3 where he let mordred and spartacus go on a rampage Also ritsuka has learned a ability makin his life force into magical energy in LB1 itself even kadoc took note of this but stated the way he did it was bad as he just started doing it In current story he has mastered this as displayed in LB6 as kadoc noted he can only supply mana using this method as close range but in LB6 he could send shadow servant’s kilometers away Ritsuka in LB6 as i said wasn’t getting mana from storm border but was stated by caster cu to be 1 of 3 that could beat barghest the other two being castoria with 6 bells(which even da vinci said before that she could be ok when fighting barghest if she reached 6 bells) and fairy knight mash(this was even more reinforce as beryl even stated only melusine could beat her) not even muramasa Percival or caster cu could beat barghest by cu’s opinion even in the fight against melusine and cu caster+muramasa ritsuka sent shadow servant’s kilometers away In a battle ritsuka has defeated foe’s that are far above his servants Like in LB7 Ritsuka’s master privilege was removed and fought daybit with tezcatlipoca in territory plus not nerf by human body and won with just shadow servants And in OC3 At base ritsuka fought with base mash vs two hakuno’s with all memories of all extra games with admin privileges plus the help of gilgamesh,nero,tamamo,nameless,Charlemagne,and moon cell altera In final singularity solomon in the movie’s material it states ritsuka made a becon of blue light that made the sky itself rotate around it making the stars circle around the light In OC1 it even showed how much mana he had by using his life force method as he summoned multiple Cerberus using medusa’s mystic code until it broke from how much he used it And in OC2 the remant bad energy from ritsuka was sated by dantes would have made ritsuka the greatest avenger the world would witness All in all ritsuka by himself is a beast and this isn’t even all the things he has done even without mana supplies from novum chaldea/storm border

1. Every servant DOES canonically get summoned to Chaldea 2. In OC 3, it's confirmed by Jinako that Ritsuka could summon and manage 3 shadow servants by themselves

@ not all It was confirmed in summer 7 or 8 that king protea is not a servant of chaldea by melt and stated this was ritsuka’s first encounter with her And even in OC4 summer fusion it’s confirmed that ritsuka has only summoned protea in LB7 And archetype:earth was first met in OC4 So yeah a few servants are not summoned yet if they have no story quest with a story and or interlude

@ yes 3 Also no protea hasn’t yet again she appeared in a earlier summer event but only summoned by melt not chaldea and in LB7 she is summoned but never appeared as she was turned by camazotz to a alter and in OC3 she is summoned but not by ritsuka or chaldea amybe after OC3 she is summoned but as of now no she hasn’t she never really made a real contract as when she was summoned she didn’t even appear and was turned alter by camazotz like how beni and ereshkigal alter were not chaldean’s servant because of the altering she wasn’t too they were supplied by the mana of each of their underworld And for earth she wasn’t summoned as they made it clear this was the first time ritsuka met her
