The sequel to the biggest dino flick ever made, The Lost World tried to up the ante by having MORE DINOSAURS THAN EVAH and even more, a T-Rex in San Diego! Of course, it also fell victim to... wait a minute... you mean it was the same writers and director responsible? ...how in the..?

Holy shit, that ship carrying the Rex was named the S.S. Venture, the name of the same ship that brought King Kong to New York. If you look closely, you can see the name of the ship on her bow. Awesome reference.

The little Girl in the beginning of the movie is not killed. Hammond references her surviving the attack while talking to Malcolm "A wee girl was attack... Oh she's fine.. She's fine." Something like that. Its a one line passive dialog that is easy to miss.

@Andrew Phillips Yes, but in literally every home release format, weather it be Digital, Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, Etc... The girl lives. As I'm pretty sure Decker Shado watched this movie at home to do the review, & didn't just see this movie in theaters because it's the year 2014 & not 1997 I have to conclude that he in fact watched one of the home releases. This means that Decker Shado simply just missed the line about the girl being alive. Although as much as I enjoy Decker Shado's reviews, this is the first time I'm going through his Jurassic Park reviews & in the first Jurassic Park review he made a lot of leaps of logic & insinuations that are easily explained & kind of ruined his review for me. In his first Jurassic Park film review Decker Shado made some good & obvious complaints that I & everyone else who have ever watched the movie have also had like the weird-ass cliff that appears out of nowhere. Also Decker Shado made some arguments that held up at the time he made the first review about the appearance of the dino, but we're later explained in future movies (Like Jurassic World). Although Decker Shado also made some unfair criticisms towards the first film, Including but not limited to things that he felt were irrelevant to the plot or criticizing character motivations. For example Decker Shado criticized Dr. Alan Grant for leaving the kids in what he thought was a safe & secure building instead of bringing the injured children back out into the wilderness of death with killer dinosaurs. I just felt that many of the alternate decisions Decker Shado would have made in the film can be far more legitimately criticized than the actual decisions of the fictional characters in the first Jurassic Park movie. Ever since I found Decker Shado Channel I've quite enjoyed it, so this is not a criticism from a place of hate, but rather some constructive criticism. In his first Jurassic Park movie review he got significant details wrong, or made serious leaps in logic. So when I start watching his second Jurassic Park movie review & Decker Shado gets the very first scene of the movie wrong, & ot just in casual passing, but he makes a point to emphasize that she was murdered, torn apart, etc... as an actual critique of the film it makes Decker Shado's content less enjoyable. On top of that, constructive criticism is simply just a very positive thing, I've seen Decker Shado make a mistake & correct the mistake in later videos proving that critiquing the critic can lead to a positive outcome. For example criticism led Decker Shado to actually correct one of his bigger mistakes from the first review regarding the dinosaurs dying within a few days. There are few other mistakes I wish he would correct, but to give credit where credit is due, I'm glad Decker makes those types of corrections when he notices he made the mistake in the first place.

Fuck, I'll say it. This movie is great. I actually like it a little more than the first. There's more of an odyssey-type feel than the theme park vibe of the original, so instead of feeling like an exploitative sequel, it readily inhabits its own skin as a separate entity entirely. The omnipresent snark also goes a long way to establishing its own tone. It's a bit darker, the photography has more of a Film Noir feel, and the soundtrack absolutely curb-stomps the first film's. The only shark-jump moment is the gymnastics bit. But then, the original had its own cartoony flourishes. (Dennis Nedry makes a Loony Toons 'slipping on a banana peel' sound when he falls and drops the can of Barbasol, for example) Nostalgia Critic's review of this always felt pretty weak. He _reeeeeeaaaally_ had to stretch for some of those gripes. And a few of them were factually inaccurate, or explained by the book.

***** Hmmm... well, you know what? I respect that. Sometimes, we can love a movie so much we do not think the potential flaws of it makes us love it any less - and in that sense, it does make sense to give it 10/10. :) Hell, I give all three Hobbit movies 10/10 because I love them to death - but it doesn't mean I am delusional to their flaws, it just means I love them a lot.

+The Rageaholic i could not have put it in a better way. You sir, deserve a giant thumbs up. And i agree, the soundtrack is probably the most neglected aspect of this movie. It kind of pissed me of how this review went for cheap laughs rather than bein hones. They slapped "Jurassic Park" on the title to avoid confusion? really?? no one is confused about this being Jurassic Park related.. and do you really want to the same movie as the first? JP2 did a perfect job in that sence. Only thing that makes me grind my teeth watching this is the gymnastics scene, and im not a fan of the San diego ending. should have kept it on the island.

Ian didn’t see 3/5 deaths, he likely could’ve guessed they died, but Ray Arnold and Muldoon definitely died. No way he knew about Nedry who likely “died in the storm,” so to speak. @ 3:30; the bodycount was indeed five but Malcolm didn't know about the deaths of Nedry or the park worker. Sorry, that one always gets under my skin ever since the Nostalgia Critic's review. And yes, The Lost World is not all that great at the end of the day, even Spielberg himself agrees he wasn't in top form at the time. I call it just a guilty pleasure for the dinosaur action and dark atmosphere, more than I can say about Jurassic Park III, but that's just me. Once again, a lot of excellent points raised!
@DeckerShado
@DeckerShado 9 жыл бұрын
Oscar Stainton True, but while Malcolm wouldn't know about Nedry or the worker's deaths, and indeed Nedry running off undetected and being eaten likely wouldn't be known by any at all definitively.. I still feel the worker from the opening would have required some explanation to the press, as there were plenty of witnesses to that event. Of course, one problem with doing things with a comedic bend is that I can't give overly long explanations to things like this... Well, I can, but.. if it's not interesting to most, it just bogs down the review. :/

Decker Shado Just to jump into this, a deleted scene for Lost World of the Ingen board of directors shows them explaining that they have a plan to save the company. During the scene, the assault at the beginning of Lost World is referenced, saying that the parents were paid, IIRC, at least ten million value for their silence. I don't remember if the park worker's death was referenced, but I the scene made it clear that there were many other incidents like that. I think that with that scene in mind, one could connect the dots and realize that the park worker's death was dealt with prior to the breakout.

Hey Decker, Liked the review. I have a point that you might find interesting about this film. You pointed out that some scenes felt very much like Spielberg wasn't behind the camera. As is turns out during a lot of the early and middle parts of filming Spielberg left filming in order to join the rest of his family due one of his kids being gravely ill and the studio wouldn't push back the films release date, so they brought in a second director to take over till Spielberg returned towards the later parts of filming, and only went back to re shoot several scenes before they got too far behind schedule.

***** Fair enough. I can see where you're coming from, but I think the film pissed me off a bit too much for me to get really into it. The first had a grand, almost magical feel to it. Pretentious as all hell, yes, but grand all the same. The second aimed to be bigger, which I can respect, but changing it's focus from being grand and exorbitant whilst being grand and exorbitant.. oh hell, I'll say it. It confused the fuck out of me. I didn't see the NC's review recently, so it's hard to comment on that. Honestly I haven't watched him in a while.. that he's evidently reviewed JP 1 & 3 as well is news to me. Obviously I didn't want to repeat what he had said, but.. well that wasn't hard. A movie's a pretty damn long thing and a lot of stuff happens. Though.. having just re-watched JP3 in preparation for next week... damn... yeah, I was REALLY harsh on 1&2.... 1 may be heavily flawed, and 2 may infuriate me, but 3... How the hell do you take a movie about dinosaurs in modern times and churn out the most generic flick possible? And it could have even been worse.. Reading up on it, I found out one of the first drafts was about a group of teenagers trapped on the island... just... no....
@Elfrunner
@Elfrunner 9 жыл бұрын
A group of teens? So, the third Jurassic Park almost ended up like AVP: Requiem? Well, considering the mentality of all characters involved in these films, a cast of stranded kids barely would have made for stupider protagonists. I just can't say much for people who insist on trying to open dinosaur theme parks, or reopen them, as was the case in The Lost World: Jurassic Park and now Jurassic World. How the hell this Masrani company ever got approval to rebuild and finally open the original Jurassic Park despite all of its "setbacks" I'll never know. I can't imagine Ian Malcolm and Alan Grant would have been for it. I guess the first park's pre-inaugural failure and a ravenous T-Rex rampaging through San Diego weren't enough to dissuade the public from wanting to visit a fully realized prehistoric animal zoo. Maybe the impending Frankenstein dinosaur that will inevitably screw up Jurassic World will make governments and corporations rethink the idea. :P Actually, I doubt it. The fourth movie will undoubtedly warrant more sequels. Oh, and you were right about Denis Nedry waiting for a better opportunity to escape Isla Nublar with the embryos. Dodgson told him at the cafe there was enough coolant inside the shaving cream can for 36 hours. Now, I'm assuming the coolant would only be activated once the embryos were sealed inside the container. It wouldn't have done much good to have it running before then, not if you factor in the time it took Dodgson to get to the meeting with Denis, Denis's trip to the park, the entire work day there, and the trip back. Had Denis been successful, the 36 hours would have expired long before the goods made it back to the mainland. That said, Denis Nedry could have waited until the following morning to leave the island. By the time he got back to Dodgson's people, about 20 hours would have passed. If I'm not mistaken, Denis's plan in the book was far more patient. He was to get the embryo container to the docks and return to his work post to restore power to the park fences before anyone knew there was a real problem.

I'd let the dinosaurs loose too. If Ledlow (or however the fuck you spell his name) got what he wanted and a Jurassic Park were built in San Francisco, I think it's pretty safe to say the dinosaurs would kill hundreds of people. The biggest problem I had with the film was that part where the ship crew is somehow dead. It's such a huge goddamn plot-hole. Also, there's a lot of great ideas in the novel that sadly got left out. On the plus side, the movie's soundtrack is great and fits the concept of an isolated island with dinosaurs perfectly.

In the books it never says if Kelly is Black or White. But I"m 100% sure that's the case in the movie. Ian adopts her, allows visitation with her mother, but all in all he stepped up as her father. However those are almost always herd animals with the prey defense of "there are a lot of us and they can't eat us all" not giant aggressive saurians with big ass thagomisers, yes that's what they're called.

So this is an old video but a bit of a correction: Side B was never brought up in the first book. It's something Crichton created for the sequel novel so he could have a dino island despite Isla Nublar being blown up to smithereens in the book. The sequel novel was written because the studio wanted a sequel, with or without Crichton. So Crichton wrote a sequel that could follow both the book and the movie. Which means he had to write in a bunch of contrivances like this to bridge the two versions. Also, Sarah Harding was always an animal behaviorist. The paleontologist was Richard Levine. The two characters did get fuse together - in the book, it's Levine who goes on the island ahead of schedule, and that they have to save - but you got their professions confused.

One other question about the continuity of this movie. Seeing that most of this movie mostly takes place on a separate island to the original movie, how did the characters make it into the ruins of Jurassic Park without crossing a huge stretch of water?

Goldbloom only saw and knew about 3 deaths. The first one happened before he was even near the island to the raptor. Then he saw the lawyer get eaten after he lead the rex to him. He was there when Hunter McZookeeper left to turn on the juice, and was there when Blondie Botanist came back and told him about Black Corpse. He didn't know Supersize McJunkfood died, because he never saw him, alive or dead. As far as Chaos MacSillyhat knows, only 3 people died.

Actually, the ship crew were allegedly written to have been eaten by raptors as the raptors had become smart enough to know that anytime a ship docked, there'd be a chance to escape the island to go to new territory (as they'd done it before when other shops docked to collect/drop off cargo before the place shut down). Now you may be wondering where the raptors went as they probably wouldn't have abandoned ship. Keep wondering that! Lol

I just ignored the plot as a kid and made up my own where the team were sent with the hunter dude to study what the hell was going on with the island and ingen's competator showed up to sabatoge the study. This results in a stampede of the herbavoirs that destroy both camps. Then the survivors had to band together to survive. Kelly was there because the rival company kidnapped her to stop ian from making it successful but failed because he and sarah were already there . No they weren't dating. They use kelly's gymnastics to repair the radio by having her sneak past the raptors outside to fix the radio and summon help. The movie ends with the t-rex being smuggled off the island and ian, hunter, sarah, hamin, and kelly calling dr grant and satler to plan the rescue.

Other than Roland, my OTHER favorite character was Eddie Carr. The one person on Hammonds team that really deserved to live is the one who got killed. I mean, he wasn't an eco-terrorist, wasn't shouting all over the place and DIDN'T try playing vet to a baby T-Rex. He just saved the lives of the rest of the team. Too bad it wasn't Vince Vaughn who got to play a strand of spaghetti instead.

I've always been a huge admirer of Crichton's work, and I think each movie did a great job of conveying the overall message the novels tried to get across. No one did techno thrillers better than Crichton, and the philosophical points weaved throughout all of his novels never ceased to amaze me. In my opinion they're all enjoyable films. The first one will always be the best because it was a cinematic spectacle, and it mesmerizing to see Crichton's spellbinding vision brought to life on the big screen. 2nd one was alright but it really deviated from the novel in almost every way conceivable, making it almost a completely different story than what Crichton had written. And the third one was just thrown in for the hell of it, but it was nevertheless, an entertaining film. They all have the same magical quality to them to some degree. And of course, how could you go wrong with John Williams in charge of the soundtrack? The music was absolutely beautiful in every way and brought life and power to the film. Some of the most flawless soundscore utilization in the history of cinema imo. I even own the entire soundtrack on CD. It's so beautifully done that it literally transcends time.

I know it is a bit late to be commenting on this. I want to point out that one of the biggest problems with the first two movies, is that they were still deriving material from the books, and sometimes important things in the movies don't' make sense because there is no on-screen follow-up clues that were clearly established in the books. The reason the Rex pair said fuck it to the set up notion of the outside being safe (and the center of the island bad) is because their territory got expanded when they went on the move to find their off-spring. So, while the movie doesn't explain it, it does make sense that they range outside of the associated danger zone.

19:40, actually, what happened was that the T-Rex woke in a narcoleptic state, killed the crew and was baited down below (probably by some unfortunate crewmember) and was sealed in by another dying member. The raptor theory is just fan speculation.

I think I understand why the t-rexes eat so much. They're used to feeding on large dinosaurs which have a lot more meat. While humans are basically just bloody, boney snacks with a very little meat. You can't expect a full grown goddamn sexual Tyrannosaurs used to feasting on house size butterball turkeys, to get full on a few boney potato chips here and there.

I think Ian Malcolm was commenting on his daughter's use of 'troglodyte' rather than Sega. Also, if the playstation was kicking ass, commenting that her babysitter doesn't even have the bare minimum (sega), then her comment that the babysitter is a cave-dwelling primitive holds even more true. I will give an analogous statement to further my case. "A gun? The man doesn't even have a pointed stick."

The reason Ian said only three people died instead of five can be easily explained. It's likely John and Donald never told Grant and the others that one of their works was killed if they did tell them it's likely they wouldn't of sign of on the park. As for Nedry it's judging by what Hammond said they all assume he left the island and went into hiding they probably never found out he was killed by the Dilophosaurus. This is not that difficult to figure out!!!!!!

I Think I know why this Movie Was Bad. Neither Michael Crichton or Steven Spielberg wanted to Do It. You Don’t Need Their Words to Say if they didn’t Want to Do it just look at the Facts. Crichton was Pressured by Fans to Write a Sequel Novel. Spielberg Probably didn’t want the Same Situation with Jaws 2 so he Probably Signed on to Direct The Lost World because he Didn’t want Universal to do a Sequel Without Him Similar to a Situation with the Canceled Night Skies (Which Later Turned into E.T.)

I was gonna give you shit for the lysine thing while watching the first one but you slapping yourself was satisfying enough. I do have a bug about the body count though. Only 3 people were reported: Donald Gennaro (the lawyer), Mr. Arnold, and Robert Muldoon. As far as they probably knew, Nedry escaped and was never heard from again. I doubt they ever went back to discover his body if there was anything left after the dilophosaurus ate him. And in regards to the park worker at the beginning of the film... his death wasn't really covered up. That's what lead to the whole island excursion in the first place.

One of my issues with reviews on this franchise in particular is that Every movie characters are blasted for making dumb mistakes yet people ignore that some people are dumb in real life. It’s not exactly a error in the script. Vince)Environmentalists/animal people are This diluted and dumb. Every single year people are killed trying to swim with sharks, mauled by their pet chimpanzee, people climb into animal enclosures on purpose with shit like tigers. Someone Trying to save a Rex and letting the animals out is perfectly believable. Sarah) the..crocodile hunter. And maybe she’s had better reactions in the past..she’s the one that’s been there before not us. Ian) his major chaos moments were A) flexing knowledge to flirt B) scolding John H C)him panicking and kinda mocking himself for ignoring chaos theory. -he’s just there for his gf..he’s done trying to convince hamon of anything..he’s not trying to look smart for a girl. -get that thing out, is shorter than a lecture. Grant in 3) he had no reason to suspect a plane was going to land on the island. Flying over the ocean and getting dropped off in the middle it are very different. People usually pay down payments and then the full thing they coulda wrote him a check for 10-100k. And then said more later. “Not getting paid” could easily refer to the larger promised sum. Nobody is going to write you a check that clears for millions of dollars up front! Kid from 3) it’s a big ass truck..spino and Rex are just about the only threats(coulda been full of food). Mom3) poor acting yes, annoying yes, dumb yes, believable yeah it really is....although I may consider setting up first because I’m not a mom in distress. I’d be fairly comfortable yelling on a bullhorn. Get to a more defensive position..they got guns that blow up planes. Spino would be 1 hit kill. The only charcter in all the movies that really doesn’t make sense is private Pyle from world. Considering he’s clearly been thinking about weaponized dinos and is a stereotypical Murican. He should know gun beats dino. And he should be aware of what HIS creation is capable of...the thing would be studied around the clock.

Why, did, they, delete, any, scene? I mean, the deleted scenes we're so good, it would've been the best movie ever made about dinosaurs.. Anyways, fun fact : a T-Rex won't hunt humans for food. Only in self-defense or out of boredom. I mean a human is a bit or two for these giants, so they won't waste a lot of energy... A raptor, like our recently discovered Dakotaraptor or Utahraptor, which are the two scariest predators the good Lord ever created, would find humans as an easy meal. For Dakotaraptor, it's a full course. For a Utahraptor it's a small meal, but it's so easy to catch. Now, I really wish to see it in JWD or rather JP 6.... JWFD was an appetizer for Carnage... Dinosaurs were scary animals with feelings, moods and emotion, but most of all, with an unmatchable power... And durability. I heard of an Allosaurus that survived having 14 broken ribs... That's scarier than death....

Missed it in theaters but I think my dad bought the vhs It's not as good as the first movie The effects aren't as grand, the characters aren't memorable, and the whole animal rights issue backfires when the people trying to advocate for it constantly make it worse It also deviates heavily from the book But it did lead to some cool toys and more dinosaurs This was was also my first introduction to Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn At least John Williams' score still rules and the chase in San Francisco with the t-rex is different
