I’m nearing on 3 years on TH, (I got a code by looking through the TH forums and then into a linked discord that had a ton of people giving them or selling them). I mostly use it for character storage, and not really the social aspect, but this is a great explanation of the whole site!

Adding that the Discord does require some stuff to get in that may take a while to verify, and the TH forums also have a dedicated forum page giving out and asking for codes. I didn't have to wait more than 24 hrs for someone to post a list of codes there, at which point I could message people to grab codes for my friends. Just in case anyone is curious

Hey! I really loved this tutorial- I'm new to TH and this helped me understand the site more than I did before!! Thank you! I do have a question though. I'm new to the term FH, and I've been using the term NFS for the characters I have on the site that are not for sale. Can they be used interchangeably? Also that brush you used for your lineart is fantastic holy moly

FH and NFS can pretty much be used interchangeably yea! i suppose the difference is that nfs kind of gives the impression that the character is not for sale so long as that's up, whereas FH implies the character will never leave that persons toyhouse so it will NEVER go ufo. but you could basically use either to tell ppl ur not selling the character

I wish the site had a kinder culture when it comes to accidentally offering on characters that the offerer didn’t know were ufo; many times before I’ve accidentally offered on a character that I didn’t realize wasn’t ufo, either by there literally being no tags saying it wasn’t ufo or the information about it being “not ufo” in a super specific part of their profile that requires a lot of digging to find, and the person *completely* blows up at me, getting so mad and being rude at me even after I said it was an accident and I was sorry, I wish people would realize that if someone offers on a non-ufo character, they most likely didn’t know it wasn’t ufo and it was an honest mistake. I wish people would be more gracious because a majority of the time people asking this question have zero bad intentions.

also for anyone else don't say someone is a hoarder because that have over 100+ characters. that is rude and not everyone draws their ocs everyday. some people do use them off site or write for them. also don't lie about your age to get access to images you shouldn't because your underage as that'll get you and the site in trouble. plus you will be banned if you lie about being 18+ if found out

there are threats where people post them publically (although you need to be extra quick to use them first) OR to be more certain you can make a deal with someone to send a code directly to you ✋but✋ usually it's in exchange for art/custom only. be careful not to be scammed

I’ve been using toyhouse enough to be familiar with it, but this is definitely helpful! Just wondering, do you know what vouchers are? They’re a term I see thrown around a lot that I’m not too familiar with (I don’t do a whole lot of trading and stuff, so that’s probably why)

oh yeah! people use the term "vouchers" when they're trying to pay for something from someone who accepts a currency that they don't have, basically! so for example, if someone doesn't use paypal, but wants to buy a character from someone who only accepts paypal, they may try to find a voucher who can pay that person for them. Then, they pay the voucher back with another method (like cashapp or deviantart points), or pay the voucher back in art or characters :]

hello! I've just started on TH and I was wondering if I could ask a quick question. So besides characters, I also see people posting commissions on the main feed (icon comms for example) and not in the forums/marketplace. I wanted to do that too, and my question was does it matter which category I submit it as? Like character, bulletin, image., etc. ?

it honestly doesn't matter too much! i see people posting their commissions in pretty much every way you mentioned! you can post bulletins, but if you plan on posting bulletins frequently i'd recommend either making a literature or remembering to repost commission bulletin ads from time to time, because the posts will appear in your subscriber's feed when you post them, but they won't see them again after that unless they go to your page and scroll for them manually. literatures is an option i see a lot of people do if you want to keep it one spot! uploading a character works too, i usually make YCHs and adopts as characters so i can add the finished ones to the gallery but i definitely see a lot of people using characters to advertise comms as well! honestly do whatever you fancy and whatever works for you!

you can look at the site without being logged in, just click "take a look" on the logon screen. the forums have a specific thread just for giving people codes
