This is very interesting - I once was told by my doctor that my LDL was too low and probably suffer from malnutrition, when I asked what I should do he said eat more carbo... (while my diet was so unbalanced at that time and carbo basically consisted 70% of my diet, and I' had been having insulin resistance for a long time), now I'm happily on a low-carb diet and everything is getting better. People tend to believe in unbelievably simplified theories when it comes to health and nutrition, which baffles me a lot....

My triglycerides decreased from 400+ to 98, and my HDL increased over 40% since beginning a ketogenic lifestyle. My dense LDL decreased, and I’ve lost 64 pounds in 8 months. Yet...my cardiologist is again wanting to prescribe statins because my LDL & total increased. I discontinued statins due to relentless joint pain that even disrupted my sleep. It took me a while to ascertain the cause, but months after stopping them, I no longer have pain. I wish more doctors would develop an open mind, do the research and educate themselves on the benefits of living a ketogenic lifestyle. It’s uncomfortably difficult challenging our physicians on this topic.

This is very interesting. I am not quite on a keto diet. Let's say low carb. I am still eating alot of carbs like vegetables and bit of a fruit. Eat only in an 8 hour window. So intermittent fasting. Lost weight, have more energy, brain works better ( I feel sharper). Will reduce my chicken and red meat consumption soon and eat more fish. I like the results it gives me but concerned about the LDL. Maybe the perfect diet is just low carb but not to the extreme. Will get a blood test in March next year. So far lost 8 kg.

I've been on Keto for 2 and a half years. I've seen my bp drastically improve, I lost and kept off 25 lbs, heart burn went away and HDL and Triglycerides got a little better as did my A1C (53). However my LDL went from about 125 before Keto to 304. My doctor is in full blown panic and I must say that it's causing me stress as well. I don't want to go on a statin but I don't want to die either. I'm a 59 year old male and last year I had a heart check up by my cardiologist who found no blockage anywhere. Could the increase in LDL on keto be explained in part by the fact that we become so good at burning our own body fat that there’s never really any such thing for us as a truly “fasting” cholesterol level? We are either burning ingested fat or burning body fat, but never neither. Testing people on keto in a fasted state might not be that much different from testing people on a normal diet after lunch?

So much research has been done over the last few years. And it's not looking good for obtaining low cholesterol as an endpoint. Science/studies point to flawed studies and strong opposition to the "high cholesterol" - bad syndrome. A better assessment of CVD is your Triglycerides/Hdl ratio!! I've done my own research. Check out Dr David Diamond, Dr Robert Ludwig, Dr Paul Mason, Dr Nadir and Dr Tom Dayspring. They will blow your mind!!! All meat/fat and low carb diet! Stay away from Fructose, a poison! • Statins cause liver damage, muscle damage/fatigue, diabetes, dementia, osteoporosis, ER dysfunction, muscle destruction. Test his ApoB levels. There's a direct correlations between that and CVD!

This paper probably paid by vegans, all those ppl didnt need to lose weight. so comparing apples and oranges as usual. most keto ppl are diabetic or obese and the Cholesterol and triglecirides are stored in our fat cells, when we stop carb intake the fat is released and we burn the triglecirides, but the cholesterol is slowly excreted with bile and fiber by the liver, that is why it shows in our bloodstream. after the weight loss, and you arrive at your normal stable weight your ldl goes back to normal.(chol 226 hdl ratio 5.7-hdl 40~LDL126~-hba1c 5.4 - d47 b12 476~TRIG 337~trig non-hdl 186. )
