The second Torneo de Arturo Alesandri Palma was held from April 20th to May 6th, 1959 in Santiago, Chile. Thirteen grandmasters and masters from Europe and the Americas competed in the round robin event. The participants from Europe included Borislav Ivkov from Yugoslavia and Ludek Pachman from Czechoslovakia. The participants from the Americas included sixteen year old Bobby Fischer from the United States, João de Souza-Mendes from Brazil, Luis Augusto Sanchez from Venezuela, Herman Pilnik and Raul Sanguineti from Argentina, and Walter Ader Hausman, Rodrigo Flores-Alvarez, Carlos Jauregui, Rene Letelier Martner, Julio Salas Romo, and Moises Stekel Grunberg from Chile. The tournament was an important one for Fischer as he was still just beginning to compete in international events. Though he scored as many wins as the two first place finishers, Ivkov and Pachman at seven wins each, he suffered four losses while only drawing one game to finish +4 at the final to tie for 4th-6th place.

Thanks a lot for paying a tribute to one of the best Serbian (only second to Svetozar Gligoric) and one of the most talented world grandmasters of the 20th century (junior world champion in 1951 three-time national champion of Yugoslavia, ...veteran world champion in 2006)! "A stellar career "At these and many other events Ivkov was ahead of the likes of Fisher, Gligoric, Najdorf, Larsen, Uhlmann, Portisch, Bronstein, Petrosian (when he was World Champion), Stein, Korchnoi and Jansa. Several world champions fell prey to Ivkov, including Bobby Fischer, Tigran Petrosian, Vasily Smyslov, Mikhail Tal and Anatoly Karpov. He also drew all of his games with Botvinnik."... ..."Ivkov had an outstanding career marked with successes in both national and international events. A three-time champion of Yugoslavia, he qualified for the 1965 Candidates matches (he lost to Bent Larsen) and played four more Interzonal tournaments during the 1960s and 1970s. The winner of numerous strong tournaments (including Mar del Plata 1955, Buenos Aires 1955, Santiago 1959, Beverwijk 1961, Zagreb 1965, Amsterdam-IBM 1974), Ivkov also took the champion title at the European Senior Individual Championship in Davos in 2006." @@lowellgeddes8996 I think Agadmator uses some searching app to see all the comments with #suggestion , that's why you have bigger chance of getting that game covered if you uses that tag. I remember one livestream where there was some prize to be won, he asked the viewers to use #tal to enter the competition and then he used that app to show him the comments with #tal to draw the winner... or something like that. The standings for that tournament reminded me of Ludek Pachman whose name I had pretty much forgotten. While still at school, I read and learned a lot from his Modern Chess Strategy. It would be great if you could cover one or two of his games. I have also just had a look at his entry in Wikipedia. Very interesting too. He was tortured and almost killed by the Communists for his political activism though eventually allowed to emigrate to West Germany where he resumed his chess career.

# Suggestion Jauregui - Fischer Santiago, 1959. Carlos was a very close friend of mine..He finished at 50% in the tournament drawing against the eventual winner ..Ivkov and willing against Fischer....in one of the most decisive defeats Fischer has ever suffered against Non Grand Master opposition...." E Mednis ..It would be so nice if you could share this game in Honor of Carlos...much appreciated....
