That is some dedicated work there. That's the kind of dedication only a cat owner with a smelly box can understand. Nice work.

We are building a new house and I have designed a litter box cabinet in my laundry room. I had heard someone mention they had their electrician install a motion activated "fart" fan in the cabinet that was vented outside. So I set out to find a video like yours!!! I wanted to make sure I understood how it should be done so that I could tell our rural electrician that IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE!! LOL! The back of our cabinet will be on an exterior wall, so it will work perfectly. I plan on being able to just open the double doors on the cabinet to clean the box. The end of the cabinet will have the kitty door. So happy you made this video!! I did not think about lights, but now that has been added to my plan.

So cool to design it from scratch like you are doing. Can make it look really clean that way. My main feedback would be to strategically place the fan so it’s not too loud inside where the cats are doing their business. But your setup is gonna be awesome, and your house won’t smell like cat poo!!!

Holy cow! Subscribed just for the idea! I can't pull the same thing off, but I fight litter box dust and odor daily, so any ideas are good ones. This is very inspirational. It took months to get them to go into a covered box, so I don't have much hope on a cat door, but I can see maybe some flaps or at least a tunnel.
@DadDoingStuff Жыл бұрын
Haha, thanks Mark! Yeah they take a while to learn to use the tunnel, but eventually (hopefully) they will get it. Our two current cats use the cat door and tunnel with zero problems. I honestly think they like the privacy. 😂

This is exactly what I have in mind! This is awesome! I would put a vent cover inside the box where the tube connects coz I can see my cats getting all curious and would probably be tempted to check it out.
@DadDoingStuff Жыл бұрын
Dude, that’s a great idea. A very curious cat could definitely get stuck in the vent hose! THAT would be a funny video! 🤣

Fabulous video! I'm not handy and your video is clearer than others I've watched trying to solve this stinky litter box issue. Using a heavy duty yard box is a great idea. Your mods for the motion sensor light and fan are genius and explained clearly. I'm trying to decide whether to cut a hole in my outside wall, for a cat door, or a vent, or put a vent or cat door in the window. My cats have taken over a back bedroom, that has one window that opens onto an large, covered deck. I'm wondering if my cats would go from their "cat room" through a cat door, into the yard box, if I placed the box outside. The box might get too cold in the winter. I don't want to smell litter box odor if I'm using the porch. I have a few things to consider and your video helps make a project like this more feasible. I can't wait until my quality of life and indoor air quality improves.

I loved reading your comment. We can all agree cat box odor is the worst! Regardless of what route you go, the only thing I’ll say (and you likely already know) there still no substitute for keeping the litter box cleaned on a daily basis. This setup does allow us to get lazy and skip a day or two, which is nice. Best of luck on your project. Appreciate the comment!

Just be prepared for barf. Not sure why cats seem to barf so much……I think they enjoy it, or at least enjoy that we hate it. 🤷🏻♂️

I DID love it!!! Stumbled on to you via a search for ‘how to ventilate my indoor cat box to the outside’ You were not the first I looked at but you were definitely the best. You very clearly show and articulate the process and materials, you don’t drag on a point unnecessarily, your camera work is great, your sound is great, editing was great…it just seems like you really pay attention to details including how your video will represent you. Because of all those I now subscribe! There are three cat residents in our two story house. Your idea will definitely work on the main floor! Am thinking of a possible modification for the second story - box inside and venting in a similar way outside - not as perfect as it all going out but I’m thinking still way better than now! What do you think? And thanks, Diane
@DadDoingStuff10 ай бұрын
First, thanks so much for the wonderful comments! Much appreciated. I think ANY ventilation you can add would be a plus. But you sparked an idea in my head…..why have not figured out how to tap into existing bathroom ventilation fans yet? The ducting is already there for most houses. Attic space access would clearly help. But somehow getting it vented to use existing duct to outside would be awesome!

Thank you for this. I just ordered my yard box. I don't have the option to install my yard box in the garage, but I will be installing it on my screen in florida room. I ordered a box that is hallowed within the walls like yours, so I can fill it up with great stuff insulation so it doesn't get too hot or cold. Wish me luck.

How is cleaning it? I don't think I could reach in to scoop the poops but I love the idea!

Honestly really easy. It’s not very far to reach. My wife does that task 99% of the time and she has no challenges with it. Hope that helps!

Not sure why you cut the first square with the side to the wall..was there a hole to the outside there too? If it was just a spacer so the lid would open, why the cut?
@MrBlaine510 ай бұрын
Oh i see..nevermind.😅 think I'm going to build a box from wood, guess thick plastic liner. Will be fun..gonna add a delay for the fan for when they leave the box.
@DadDoingStuff10 ай бұрын
Solid idea with the delay. I was definitely worried that the fan might spook the cats, but so far it hasn’t bothered them.

I'm not frm US, is there law against the cat doing it naturally in your outside - garden? Idea is excellent minus the ventilation part which can be excluded if u clean it frequently. The litter made from pine really takes away de stink. But it expensive. Anyway bravo to your litter box and good luck with bandit!!
@DadDoingStuff4 ай бұрын
No laws against that so far as I’m aware. Butters (orange cat) actually likes to go outside in a sandy area of the yard. Our bigger problem with him using the outdoor area is that our dog likes to go find the cat poop and eat it. No clue why dogs like to eat cat poop so much, but for him it’s like digging for treasure out there! 🤮
@sathi63203 ай бұрын
I see the problem why u need the special litter box. Over here in Malaysia, our cats do it in our garden or they go out to the areas near roadside or drains. Many strays live here and there in our suburbs. Cats are plenty here coz Malay majority loves them.
