I'm only 2 minutes in, so maybe I'll end up with egg on my face but I feel it would be a massive oversight not to point out that the "we can't convey emotions/make people relate when Mastah Chief has his helmet on"-bullshit is particularly hilarious with Halo, given that we had 9 fucking seasons of Red vs Blue in which none of the main characters ever took their helmets of. It's one of the best known machinimas and it accomplished over numerous years what this clown of a director claimed was impossible. They communicated by bopping their helmets up and down, ffs!

The crazy part is they could have told the story from the very beginning of the canon and offered something new and compelling that many hard-core game fans and the majority of the normal audience have never seen, the book "contact harvest" depicts humanity's first contact with the covenant which was actually somewhat peaceful at first as they were considering inducting humanity into the ranks of the covenant like they did to all the other races before them. but it all went to shit and they ended up firing the first shot all because (SPOILER ALERT) of covenant politics, the repourposed forerunner tech that they were using to find the holy "reclaimers" was lightning up all over the planet harvest like the prophets had never seen and each and every single dot was pointing to a human being, this would have challenged the Prophets social standing as the holy heads of the covenant because with this discovery humanity, not the San'Shyuum (the Prophets species name) should be the leaders of the great journey, so humanity and there planets had to be purged as heretics to the faith before the truth was discovered starting the human covenant war. And guess who was boots on the ground during the attack on harvest, who also just so happened to be the main human character of this particular book? Sgt mother f**king johnson!!!! Talk about an easy lay up!!! He even has sex in the book!! So you would have checked off your mandatory sex scene. Instead they went and told a story that has already been told, and in the process butcherd it and completely destroyed Canon, having a human covenant spy MAKES ZERO sense for reasons i explained above so having makee as character completely negates the reason as to why the covenant are even fighting humanity in thre first place.....ugh the show is just a whole mess.

This is all part of a grand plan to push out the original audience for these games. They know that the original fanbase abhors the mediocrity that's been put out with these new games and TV shows, so their plan is to continue trying to ignore it while simultaneously indoctrinating the new generation into thinking this is "the norm", so that another 20 years from now they don't have to worry about criticism they get now from folks like us. My advice, share with your kids the good stuff we grew up with so that they can see what good storytelling is like, and that they too will see through the bs these companies try to push on them.

No, they need real human faces to emote for them to save their jobs and make it easy for them... That's why they always remove their masks or helmet in most modern Hollywood movies... They look for every blatantly shitty writing shortcuts a toddler can easily pull off because otherwise, they won't know what to actually do... Shaky cameras for chaotic battles, slow Mos for dramatic shots, the brightness turned way down to the negative for easy horror, terror and fearful suspense and here, face coverings off to take advantage of the actor's acting skills to emote rather than portraying g it in the dialogues because they can't and without this shortcut, the dialogues would be like they're reading off a grocery list, completely nothing in it...

So they can't stoop down to the level of games... Yeah, I watch a lot of videos about fanboys raging at the destruction of startrek and starwars for the lulz but watching the halo show for the first time I genuinely understood their rage. everything about the show was serviceable except the one thing that they absolutely had to get right..... the goddammned story. 31 books full of epic tales and adventures dating back to the times of the forrunners that most fans have never heard and you chose to retell a story that we already played through, and not only that but completely botched the retelling and destroyed the entire canon and point of the human covenant war by placing one single character that is absolutely where she shoulden't be. The show runner had zero clue about halo lore and it 100% showed, I thought 343 were incompetant when the botched the introduction of the didact in halo 4 (that guy was an thanos level threat if you know the lore, they could have easily made a trilogy about stopping that guy a complete waste) but the directors of the halo show have outdone even 343.

I never had an Xbox, but I used to always play Halo with my cousin, it was such a fun game and hsd such cool cutscenes that I tried to see every cutscene I could, even buyed some questionable movies (in my country we called them "peliculas piratas"). Raceswapping is one of the biggest tell-tale signs of a lack of respect for the original. Full stop. Every single time I point it out, I get bullshit responses like "why do you care" and "the race doesn't change the character" and while there's so many things already wrong with those dumbass statements even by the same logic of the people who would respond that way, the primary issue has always been whether or not the people making this shit actually care about doing justice to material they have been given by better artists for the sake of fans who love and respect this stuff more than they do and businesses who have reputations and brands to market to people who aren't retarded, terminally online, moral activists. If they ask those questions, I would ask back “why even change them in the first place?” You want black representation, bring in new black characters organically! Heck, if you wanted black representation, show a younger Holly Tanaka (fireteam Osiris), Foehammer as silver team’s primary pilot, and/or Johnson ESPECIALLY! Heck, you could have the two black characters (Johnson and foehammer) hit up a relationship in their downtime and then put some tragedy in there like what happened to Foehammer in combat evolved. Imagine Johnson making it off of halo, but then learning his love interest didn’t. It would be beautifully tragic. Heck, in the games, we love Foehammer just because she did her job well! She remained chief’s reliable “chauffeur” until the moment of her death!

If Nylund didn't have an unhealthy attachment to his precious OC Spartans and try shoehorning them into the games, then Chief could be allowed to really be the last Spartan. More believable than the copium it takes to believe that a single Spartan, Chief or otherwise, singlehandedly thrawts an alien armada as well as an ancient parasite known to have defeated the Forerunner on several occasions. Like be serious. Bungie's era was the fattest leap of logic in any sense of the word.

Oh God no lol As much as I love CH, the first few chapters would probably be too controversial for Halo on TV. The restaurant bombing, Johnson's PTSD and survivor's guilt, the similarities to the War on Terror? Yeah, it's not happening lol. I wouldn't even expect it to be done right anyway. Like, it's obvious Johnson is a different person than the one we see in the games, he hasn't grown into that cheery, cocky person yet. But I'd 100% expect them to ignore that and just portray him as that cocky drill sergeant from the get-go. Which is all a shame since the general tone and atmosphere of that book seems to be exactly what the writers of the show are going for, and even if it's terrible I'd still rather see Johnson clapping cheeks than Master Cheeks.

Just from a quick google search: According to Marty O'Donnell, the music he and his partner created for Halo was licensed and not sold to Bungie. After Microsoft acquired Bungie, the music rights were transferred to Microsoft for 20% of the royalties made from using the music in non-gaming scenarios. Then I looked at a Eurogamer article: ‘ "Microsoft and O'Donnell/Salvatori, Inc., are pleased to have amicably resolved their differences." Back in February, O'Donnell and Salvatori detailed their lawsuit - which in a nutshell boiled down to whether the pair composed their famous music while as a formal part of Bungie or workers for hire. O'Donnell and Salvatori claimed it was the latter - and that Microsoft was continuing to use it in some form or other without credit or compensation. The pair said they were angered by the recent release of Halo Infinite, which did not credit them as original composers for some of the franchise's main themes. They also said they were exploring, through lawyers, a way to block the release of the ongoing Paramount+ Halo TV show. "I feel disrespected," Salvatori told Eurogamer in a phone interview. "They're about to broadcast the Halo TV show and are using our monk chant (calling it the theme to Halo) to also advertise and solicit subscriptions for Paramount+," O'Donnell added. Terms of the pair's "amicably resolved" solution with Microsoft have not been stated. We've contacted Microsoft for more. ‘ Microsoft weren’t necessarily handed the best soundtrack in gaming, not that the legality of the issue stopped them from trying. I wish Microsoft had dealt with O’Donnell and Salvatori more reasonably from the start, the whole rewriting of Halo 2 which arguably resulted in the Bungie-Msoft split really screwed a ton of people over. I put the blame squarely on Microsoft for the rewrite and all the fall out as a result. I can’t stand Halo anymore. It was MY piece of fiction growing up, something many felt, and Microsoft just negligently shat all over the franchise throughout its life. The franchise and the artists responsible for it. Now we get to enjoy this fan fiction derivative retcon of a mess. I’m gonna go and watch the Halo landfall short and smoke a cigarette to freshen my palate after being reminded of this trash show, and shorten my life span further.

In the games' manuals it was stated numerous times that Master Chief was the only Spartan 2 left, even the Halo 2 OST sorta implied that, with "The Last Spartan". That's because all the novels that came before Halo 3 were not written by Bungie themselves and they believed that the games were more important than the books; it is also why Halo Reach was different from the novel. When 343 took over they took all the canon and tried to blend it, but of course some people, me included, did not know that and were confused. That said, I believe Master Chief should have remained the only Spartan 2 KNOWN to be alive and leave other Spartan 2s for spin-offs or books, like they did with Red Team and Black Team.

The books just can’t be canon. They’re too niche. Having canon be in the books just bogs down the franchise and is what started all the issues in the first place with H4 & 5’s convoluted plot points that 90% of the player base didn’t know about. Because such a small fraction of the player base actually reads the books. We want to be able to play Halo & get the full story, because that’s what we enjoy. Playing halo, not reading it

A few people in here are pissed about the "retcon" comment. I think what Braeden meant was that Chief was "the last of his kind" impling that we never knew if Linda survived, or where Kelly and Fred went(aside from the books). What was retconned, was adding them in as mindless, irrelevant characters that served as cutscene flair in Halo 5 AND they were not utilized to their potential for the first time we ever get to see them in game. Exactly like the TV show does. I always imagined 343i saying in a board room "FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER THE PLAYER GETS TO MEET BLUE TEAM!" And someone goes "Who is blue team?" And the response is "They are Chief's old squad mates. But dont worry, we dont know who they are or where they came from either so we are just going to add them in as literal background characters. Oh and a new Fireteam too called Osiris. We dont know who they are either but it has Buck! Yay! Players are going to love them"

From what I have gathered through almost a decade of research into Halo 5. Is that after the E3 2013 announcement trailer. No one at 343i had any clue what the plot for Halo 5 was supposed to be. So we ended up with the historically bad one we got, based off snippets taken from the Original Halo Story Bible, books and random works like concept art and scrapped story arcs. Halo Infinite's plot was only saved based on bringing in support from past team members. But it was unable to be saved due to poor development and implementation. The in game shop works GREAT though. So good.

Thing is i don't even think anyone would have cared about the main spartan taking off their helmet if it was anyone but the chief. Honestly I think the show would've been better if they made their own spartan as the main character over chief. A spartan who somehow breaks the spartan mentally training programme to learn to become more human and sympathetic to human trauma sounds AMAZING. But it didn't have to be chief. Hell they could even use the master chief's presence like a symbol. Maybe the main spartan hears about what chief does and sees how it reflects upon their own character.

9:03 because modern Hollywood writers and directors can't write dialogues that would portray the emotions of the person saying it without even seeing their faces... No, they need real human faces to emote for them to save their jobs and make it easy for them... That's why they always remove their masks or helmet in most modern Hollywood movies... The talent pool as cratered and they aren't even trying anymore... They look for every blatantly shitty writing shortcuts a toddler can easily pull off because otherwise, they won't know what to actually do... Shaky cameras for chaotic battles, slow Mos for dramatic shots, the brightness turned way down to the negative for easy horror, terror and fearful suspense and here, face coverings off to take advantage of the actor's acting skills to emote rather than portraying g it in the dialogues because they can't and without this shortcut, the dialogues would be like they're reading off a grocery list, completely nothing in it...

Not only did Karl urban keep his helmet on the whole movie and we know who he is. Pedro Pascal played the Mandalorian, who kept his helmet on and had his face revealed ONCE in season one, season two had his face revealed twice. Hell, the THIRD season of Mandalorian and book of boba fett and didn’t show his face again! And we all still felt what mando was going through!

Master Chief could've easily been the Halo show's equivalent of Levi from 'Attack On Titan'. He should have been the guy who gives a middle finger to grimdark situation, and when things are at their worst, be the living Dues Ex Machina. A major feature of his character compared to others might have become a reoccurring joke, called the 'I nEeD wEaPoN' meme. Just like how James Bond abuses the gadgets he recieves from Q, Master Chief would have been notorious for discarding UNSC weapons and using Covenant ones as soon as he was out of ammunition, instead of returning them to the quartermaster. In fact, his first screen appearance would be a noob combo, where an Elite has one of the show's protagonists in their clutches, and becomes extremely confused when they are hit by a charged plasma shot. Thinking it was a stupid Grunt, the Elite would turn to berate it with "You fool, I had them in my grasp! You didn't need to..." only to get headshot immediately. When the Elite falls, it reveals Master Chief, duel-wielding a Plasma Pistol and Magnum. Throughout the show, Master Chief's antics would get more progressively destructive of both UNSC and Covenant property, to the point where Master Chief cracks an Brute's skull with his rifle, breaking it. Master Chief: "Um...I need a weapon." Sargent Johnson: "One of these days, you're going to realize 'This is my rifle, there are many like it, but this one is mine' is not merely a Marine religious chat, but a warning that one day you could be unarmed and surrounded, looking stupid with your pants down." Master Chief: "I find that hard to believe, because the enemy will always provide me with a weapon themselves, unless the Covenant want to have a fistfight...which they won't win, either." Sargent Johnson: "Sigh. Could you at least expend all your ammunition, before ticking off the quartermaster?" Master Chief: "No promises. But I'll try to be more conservative...until I find a bigger gun. Why don't they just equip me with the bigger guns from the start, anyway?" Sargent Johnson: "BECAUSE YOU TOSS THOSE AWAY TOO!" Master Chief: "Not my fault my suit only has two magnetic weapon mounts." Sargent Johnson: "Touche'."

You can't compare game cinematics with TV effects. They have to composite all the CGI with real sets and people. Much harder to do than create a pure 3D environment and characters. I thought the effects were a lot better than most shows
