Purchased this book at Toy's R Us back in the early 90's when I was kid. I loved those stickers, particularly the food related ones that you pointed out. It was difficult to try and find this idea book as an adult because most pictures of this book on the internet leave out the stickers, which are what I remember most fondly. Thank you for taking the time to revisit this, Jang.

Oh man! I had that book when I was a child! I loved it! In my own city I had the restaurant, the dumptruck, stores, and many more of the instructions in this book. I even figured out a couple of the stuff that is on the background pictures.

There were at least 3 ideas books published prior to this one. I know I've got all 3 in (relatively) good condition. I think the second book published had a narrative which followed a couple of minifigs as they moved to a new city, visited the circus, then were whisked off into space by visiting robots - then finally ending in a castle realm, back when castles were brick-built in yellow. I'd love to film a similar video for these older books, but I haven't got Jangs presentation skills! Excellent vid as always.
@Dazzgracefulmoon8 жыл бұрын
man, these videos are sweet. I love seeing the more simplistic building system from old system sets, plus I legitamitely felt inspired to make some stuff, those town dioramas definitely tickled my fancy.
@torgeirlien95338 жыл бұрын
I got this idea-book when it came out. Also got the Pirates book with the two minifigs (you should check that out if you haven`t and can source it from somewhere, its a cool little comic book that helps build character for the minifigs in the Pirate line). So this idea-book came in handy to build some alternative builds for my Pirates stuff back in the day. Also the Forestmen (or Robin Hood as we would call them) were great too, we used to use plot ideas from Robin Hood when playing with the Forestmen in combination with Castle stuff. Some of the other builds were a bit frustrating because there was always some parts not in my collection which made the builds impossible to complete, so had to find ways to work around the parts missing. But all in all the stickers included in the idea-book and a little imagination would make for some proper upgrades to my city builds! Thanks for sharing this, it brought back many good memories :-)

Man I had this back in the day! Hey Jang, you should photocopy that sticker sheet. Then transfer that copy to a blank waterslide decal sheet, that way you'll always have more of them to use for future builds and such.

I remember this catalouge since I grew up in the 90s. Gotta admit that I had my LEGO Movie heroes posed to relive this lovely nostalgia here with me, yep I'm 30 and can still be that childish.... which is a good thing since LEGO is all about imagination and play! And you should never get old enough to not allow yourself to play!

I still have this book at home. When I was a kid, I was always lacking at least one important piece to get the build done as they were shown. It was a bit frustrating, but it was perfect to learn how to fix and adapt ideas to my pieces restriction. Plus, the pictures were always inspiring me to create something as cool as Lego did, but with my own stuff.

Thanks for the moment of nostalgia. Can't believe you got this book in such great shape, even including the stickers! Too bad Lego doesn't make books like these anymore.

That hospital is clearly based on the original hospital set number 6980 released in '87. The tall three floor building on the town scene is also based on that set, moreover, the original box's back has a similar alternative build. The curved windows are found in the set 6376 Breezeway Cafe, which released in 1990. It also had the same "Ristorante" stickers.

Wasn't around yet, but I have always loved the castle stuff from this era. I remember my cousin- who was about 7 years older than me- had a nice castle setup used with the parts and style of this era. I think he used mostly the later forest men stuff and the wolf pack things as well. It really stuck with me, I've been trying to collect old castle sets from this era because of that. Heck, I intend to write fantasy novels- and I can trace that back to these old sets! Always nice to see videos like this man ^.^

@SkaMasta0976 жыл бұрын
Smoov Operata LEGO still makes idea books, but not quite like this. The old idea books were paperback with ideas that combine official sets or ideas that could have been an official set. The idea books they make these days are hardcover, with a plastic sleeve and a lot more pages of ideas. They aren’t from any sets in particular though, just random pieces.
