When it comes to sleep deprivation, there are a plethora of problems you can encounter if you go too long without a trip to dreamland. But my question is, could you die from a lack of sleep? What happens when people push the boundaries to Sandman’s domain? Let’s get into it!

As a former student nurse, can confirm the hallucinations/delusions. My first placement ended with 4 back to back 12 hour shifts, with an hours drive each way, I'd be lucky to get 3 hours sleep a night with a 30 minute cat nap during my lunch break if I could (bear in mind too this was a 6 week placement with an assignment due alongside it). When I finally finished, and signed myself out I couldn't remember how to write my signature and was still hearing the call bells and my mothers voice telling me to wake up, and kept thinking my dog was following me around the ward. Shadow people everywhere too. I managed to get home safely, cried because I was too exhausted to move but my bed was so close, then finally summoned the last of my energy to make it to my room where I fell asleep in my clothes and slept a solid 16 hours straight. Sleep deprivation is no joke!

In all seriousness, I started homeschooling my younger kids after my oldest child started having massive panic attacks during high school. Homework kept her up until midnight most nights and by the time she would unwind enough to fall asleep it was 2am. The other kids have a 4 hour school day and 3 hour study (homework) a day and retain way more knowledge that way. The 3 hours of study can, and often turn into, lectures or debate rounds depending on the homework I gave them. Since it's so interactive, sometimes they finish the homework during these sessions without noticing. 😂 There is absolutely no reason to cause so much stress on a young person that they decide enough is enough and forgo college altogether.

Longest I’ve gone without sleep consecutively was 4 days straight. Woke up 6 AM on a Thursday and was awake until about 6 PM Sunday. Slept 13 hours afterwards. By day 2 I was having “ghosted” conversations. I would hear the last few sentences someone had said to me even if they weren’t even in the room. By day 3 straight lines were fluid and curvy also worsened concentration and a hallucination of a purple talking horse. By day 4 heightened affects of what I’ve already mentioned.

Same, with a different ADHD med & only for 3 days because I quickly diagnosed the likely trigger as one of many mental exercises I used to cope in order to not go insane from creaks & groans & far away sounds in total darkness for roughly eight hrs a night. I was certain, beyond any shadow of a doubt that we were being broken into all three of those nights & it was up to me to save myself & everyone. Once was awake for 3 days with a friend, second day had moments of tiredness but also moments of amazing energy as if you were functioning with more brain capacity. 3rd day we had an exam at school, and while doing the exam it was almost impossible to focus on it for more than a few seconds at a time. Kept hearing screams of zombies from the game we had played all night. When we got back from school we were shivering extremely and feeling cold (despite it being summer and warm) and falling asleep was very very hard.

I stayed up for legit 2 weeks and all I had was a very bad hallucination of a spider once like not bad in the terrifying sense like in the sense that it didn't look all that realistic, And then my heartbeat sped up once for a minute or two idk then in the middle of the day I finally started experiencing these microsleeps a few times and decidedly but ignorantly finally went to sleep once night time came, Then I slept for 2 days straight and a half. Once I heard the world record this random guy pulled in the 19th century I was really surprised I stayed up longer then that with no other symptoms accept for the fact my brain started to feel slower at processing stuff, Also after sleeping for 2 days In a half I still felt tired for days after that and since I had a messed up sleep schedule i finally started having a normal one because of how tired I was then I messed it up again recently

I had an auditory hallucination last night. A very short one that was oddly specific. A voice I recognize from a person that is very much alive said right in my ear "they died" very calmed. I woke up in full panic. I haven't been able to really sleep due to earthquakes and the last two days have been specially brutal. I really hope I can sleep a full night soon...

Not really. How many famous black football players are there? It's actually pretty vague. And if it was a specifically named player? Then it's simply a more detailed description of his experience, which would be odd if it _wasn't_ specific.

have you tried guided meditation? when i have trouble falling asleep, i curl up in the fetal position, close my eyes and roll them towards the back of my head, and basically start creating a dream. i visualize a calm, wide open space like a field and myself just standing in it. then i let my mind wander, making a story out of it. eventually i get so caught up in it that i drift off to sleep.

Because of childhood trauma, I spent a period of about 5 years going thru 2 to 3 day insomnia episodes. I would say that a lot of what you'll go thru depends on where you are. You will also go thru episodes of feeling awake, hypersensitivity, anger, eyes watering and pain, sweating, nausea, stomach sickness. It's bad, really bad.

@hikingm9720
@hikingm9720 Жыл бұрын
I recently stayed awake for about 4 days, but I did have about two naps in between being awake. My longest nap was only a few hours long, and my shortest was, I think, an hour or two, so I'm not sure this technically counts as "staying awake for 4 days," but I believe that I was on the verge of reaching the hallucinatory stage as I straight up began dissociating, and I began slurring words, misnaming things, and losing track of what I was saying mid-sentence. I do have severe ADHD so the part where you start misspeaking or forgetting things probably catches up to me sooner than the average person. The naps did not leave me feeling very well-rested since each nap only consisted of one or two REM sleep cycles. Since then, I keep having the occasional day where I naturally sleep way more than I ever have. For example, I frequently sleep 10-12 hours when I usually only ever sleep for 7-9, and these long sleeps can happen even after I've had several full nights of sleep. However, it is much easier for me to stay awake for very long periods of time.

Having had chronic insomnia since the age of 12 I too attempted to break Randy Gardner's record when I was about 19 years old. On a regular basis I would stay awake anywhere between 3 to 4 days at a time regardless of whether I attempted a daily sleep schedule or not, close to 5 or so during a busy school week (school did not care for my doctor's notes and yes I my academic success suffered greatly from it). If I ever tried to force myself to stay awake 5 days was the standard. So one week with the help of friends I managed to reach around 10 day 9 hours. Everything mentioned in the video is fairly accurate though what was depicted for reference may have been a little over the top. The strangest things I remember were seeing parrots on co-workers, hallways and stairways seemed to go on forever like a never ending corridor and looking up to the sky any cloud would appear to be black like smoke. I also pictured much of the ground outside to be covered in a thin layer of water as if the most of the city had received a heavy rain shower. Around day 8 or so I definitely experienced the heavy hat effect; it almost felt as if my neck was just too weak or tired to hold my head up to look at things, almost like a young baby. Day 9 and 10 having a conversation was pointless as after about a minute in I wouldn't even know what we were talking about. At the end it got to a point where I couldn't walk, then I couldn't crawl, so I ended up just sleeping on the floor for about 18 hours. After that my normal sleep schedule returned to the standard 3 day cycle.

My record is 51 hour without sleep. Not that impressive but still enough bad for me. Sleep is very important, tho I personally have tendency to oversleep sometimes which also is not good. There must be some "middle way" in sleeping. Like sleeping for 3-4 hours gives me a feeling like I was standing under a waterfall all this time. But sleeping more than 8 hours gives a feeling like if I hadn't sleep at all.

i’ve been to a psych ward twice and i had a friend who was admitted because of her psychosis due to insomnia. she was insanely calm i don’t know how she could do it. every week (for php- partial hospitalization i don’t feel like explaining so search it up) sometimes she’d say she slept 2 hours on a day and we’d all cheer for her because it was just crazy. her room was a mess and it smelled terrible. she stopped taking care of herself. she didn’t suffer from depression or anxiety- it was just the insomnia. it always shocks me why they didn’t just take her to a normal hospital instead of a psych ward. she would hallucinate like crazy i just don’t know how she kept it together

I’ve always had insomnia and sleep issues. But in my early 20s it was the worst, highly exacerbated by an adderall addiction that got pretty out of hand. I was working 60 hours a week and writing and recording music when I wasn’t working. Anyway, ONE time I went 6 days without sleep. I still made it to work every day, although driving the hour to and from probably wasn’t smart. By the tail end of it, I was doing this thing that I first remember doing to my coworkers that I called “dream talking” where they would ask me a question, like when are you going on break and I’d answer just some totally different question that I don’t really know, maybe I heard or just twisted the real question, but it’d be totally irrelevant like “yeah, order a pizza with pepperoni and bacon” (I distinctly remember that one). I would forget what I was saying and just stop, but only because of fear that I was already dream talking a response and the person thought I was crazy. Very strange experience. I don’t recommend it. Actually I recommend it ONE time. Maybe just 4 days.

Longest I went without sleep was 5 days. Worst pain/discomfort I have ever felt in my life. I was ready to write my will. Spent 5 days afterwards only getting 2-4 hours of sleep a night before finally getting a medication that knocked me out for 6-7 hours. Back to normal now, but man it was scary.

University finals didn't sleep for 6 days. The 6th is still a black out for me, there's pictures of me doing stuff and I finished all projects in time and when to class but I just remember I was standing next to my desk and a second later was sitting in class and the teacher was asking me to read something, then I was outside the building and then at my house. Slept for 22hours and wakeup with the worst hangover of my life. Sometimes I think I'm still tired of that week.

I had my own fight with the stimulant known as crystal methamphetamine for about 15 years of my life. When I got really sick into it I started keeping a journal/log for “catnaps” . 4 years later and sober today, going through that old journal , I totaled up the sleep hours and I pretty much was up for about a month or so. I still have slight episodes of psychosis even today when I work the night shift at the hospital. God bless and take care of your mind

I remember I spent a whole week on 4-6 hours of sleep and one time I only had 2 hours of sleep because of late work. And I also had to go to school late 3 times in a row and yet the only concern my teacher's had was that I was late. Like they didn't care that I barely got rest and we're just like "ok good homework's done whatever". Because of this, I've become small brain and can't manage time well and I take forever to think straight or focus, which means I will have even more late work to do which results in even lesser sleep again. Luckily the national exam is coming up so there's less homework but I still can't believe my teachers don't care. I even got scolded for spewing vulgarities once because they read my messages but didn't even acknowledge that I was ranting about how I was slowly falling apart at that time. So if they can see what I message then why don't they acknowledge my problems? Edit: For those concerned, dot worry I'm already opening up to my only friend so I guess im somewhat alright
